I live in the country and in the south. I live so far out in the country that usps does not deliver mail and we do not have trash services or city water and the nearest grocery store is 30 mins away. People usually will burn their trash because they do not have trash services where they live in rural areas. It is either burn it or search for a trash dump near you. Then put all your trash in your car/truck then pay them to take your trash.

In states that have lower taxes, there are fewer public services. In Minnesota, trash and recycling are collected everywhere. Businesses pay their own. We have tended state parks, lakes, trails, into centers, and so many services for free. But we pay for it, that's for sure. Lol

Taylor, I totally understand you not wanting to settle down in San Diego because of your love of travel, but you always just look so happy and healthy when you are home around your family. You are literally glowing. I hope that your health is getting better and that you are getting some answers. As someone who also suffers from chronic migraines, I always think of you.❤

Thank you! It is nice to be around family and have San Diego to reset. But I think it’s also because my other vlogs don’t show people typically since I keep friends private, so it’s just that you guys see a different dynamic (hanging out with people in San Diego vlogs) vs just me talking to the camera if that makes sense 😊 thanks for the kind words!!

I just wanted to let you know how much watching your videos has helped me. I gave birth to my daughter 8 weeks ago but while I was pregnant I had a horrible illness that some women get called Hyperemisis Gravidarum. It’s literal torture 24 hours a day. Knowing what you face daily with your chronic pain and seeing how you prioritise yourself and what you can cope with that day, helped to stop all of the negative self talk going on in my brain. I was beating myself up because I couldn’t do anything and was unable to be my usual proactive and organised self. Instead though, I remembered how you overhauled your life a year or two back and started to give yourself some grace. So I just wanted to thank you for speaking on it publicly and showing us how you balance your commitments as well as self care. Thank you!

Happy anniversary to your parents! My husband and I just celebrated our 38th anniversary, and time surely flies by. I agree with you and public school dress codes. What happened that allows such skimpy outfits to be ok? My kids had the same dress code your public school had - no crop tops, no see-through material, no spaghetti straps & no shorts shorter than your fingertips, when arms down at your side.

Yeah, I'd say trash burning is more of a rural thing as opposed to a southern thing. In my grandmother's case, she had a burn can in her yard b/c A) she lived in backwoods Pennsylvania in an unpopulated area (literally more deer than people) with no trash or recycling scheme, and 2) that meant she'd have to drive at least 45+ minutes to the nearest town to go to a dump or recycling center. Plus she kept a large garden and could use the newspaper and other materials as mulch, weed barriers, etc.

The first few seasons are great however IMO season 4 started to “jump the shark” and season 5 fully jumped the shark! Hard pass on 4/5 but first few seasons are worth a watch. 1883 is a Yellowstone prequel on Paramount plus and it was LEAGUES above and beyond Yellowstone in my opinion! Not as much a cowboy ranch show but more of an Oregon Trail kind of show. I would highly recommend 1883!!!!!

Northern Minnesota girl here. We burn the majority of our trash. Trash pickup is a city thing for the most part. What we don't burn gets brought to the recycling center and the rest of the trash we wait until we have a pickup load worth and bring to the dump. Of course, we only burn when weather/environment allows.

  • @izacshome

It is a southern rural thing to burn trash. Always burned paper and food trash growing up. You pay for trash service based how big your trash can is and number of cans or bags, so the less trash the city has to pick up the cheaper it is for you. Trash service in rural areas is expensive. Recycling wasn't an option where I grew up. So we separated trash into burnable and non-burnable. You use the ashes a fertilizer when the burn barrel gets full.

North Carolina here... I grew up in a very rural area where trash pickup services weren't an option for the longest time (they still aren't an option for our multi family farm road unless you get a whole dumpster where they pick up monthly) . Very often we would have to go to the dump and pay per pound or per bag, or whatever to give them our trash. Most people burn trash to save money, time, and space.

I'm pretty sure trash burning is a rural thing. We had to do that when I was young, there just was no trash pick up. There's also the "burn pile"... that's for when you're clearing fence rows, repairing/tearing down fences, building, etc. If it's something that's reached the end of its life and can't be reused it's taken to the burn pile that's burned couple times a year when weather permits.

Trash burning- I have relatives in really rural areas- sometimes there is no trash collection. So you have to drive all of your own trash and recycling- sometimes a far distance that takes time and gas money- plus you often pay for the trash you drop off. So burning paper goods etc is often more economical and helps… but of course there is the issue of what some of that trash can release into the air- but some people don’t have good other options. My relatives don’t burn plastic or anything- they compost as much as they can and curb cardboard and paper. ❤

Hi Taylor! I am a North Carolina native and yes, burning trash is common in rural areas. I was raised in Raleigh so we always had trash pickup thru the city. My family that lived in a more remote or rural area would take food scraps and throw them out for rabbits, raccoons, possums, etc to eat. But no edible trash was burned because you would have to take the trash to a local “dump” and pay to use it.

Ok - trash burning - I grew up in a very rural town in Missouri and we didn’t have garbage service when I was a kid. So you had to actually bag up your trash and drive it into the town dump. So my mom and dad would burn trash in the “burn barrel” we also composted our food scraps. Over the years eventually trash service came out to the area. As an adult, I’ve always lived where there is trash service and I live in the south (NC) - so there’s not much trash burning, going on in the urban and suburban areas. I think it’s definitely a rural thing. It’s becoming illegal in a lot of counties too.

Burning or even burying trash used to be what was done in rural locations, I remember my Dad doing both at a summer place we used to go to. There wasn't any trash pickup at that location but I don't know why he didn't just run it to the dump, these days with remote summer locations you buy a summer pass to a local dump. My Dad is no longer around so I can't ask him for more details on why burning and burying was a thing, like kitchen scraps were buried and everything else (including plastics) were burned. Which is mostly why burning trash is banned, people burn stuff that releases toxins into the air or they go into the soil.

Yellowstone is great! The cinematography is amazing, the people are beautiful (never knew I would be so into ranchers lol) and the characters are great. It can be a little violent but the story makes it worth it. You won't regret it... everyone I know... all sorts of backgrounds and ages love it!

I've lived on a farm in the rural Midwest. There is no trash pick-up out in the countryside! You can pay to have a trash pick-up service come out, but it's quite expensive in many areas. Most people do a combination of recycling, composting, and then burning whatever doesn't fit in the first two categories.

There are still rural areas in the U.S that no trash service covers so you either burn your trash or it piles next to your house forever. You would be surprised how many areas in our country that does not have access to basic services

Yes high school doesn’t have any dress codes these days. The girls at my daughters high school literally have their butt cheeks and boobs hanging out and when I asked the principal he said that they can’t demand then to wear appropriate attire as that would break their ‘friendship’ with the kids and they would apparently start acting out if the would enforce one. Now make that make sense.

Re: burning trash- in rural areas, often there is no trash/recycling pickup service. Instead, you take your own trash directly to the county dump (or to a handful of “transfer station” sites throughout the county that transfer the trash to the main dump). In most counties you have to pay for a dump pass yearly. It isn’t very expensive, but as poverty is rampant in the rural US I’m sure people would rather save their money and just burn the trash so they don’t have to use the dump. Also saves you the time and effort of loading your trash to take to the dump.

Love Yellowstone. The first episode really shocked us and we’ve been hooked. I’m not really into western shows/movies either because my dad watched a lot of “older” ones when I was growing up. Yellowstone is set in the more rural area but is not them living a simple western life. The first couple of seasons are great but they’re getting more dramatic now. I’ve also heard great things about the other shows Taylor Sheridan has created similar to Yellowstone. You should at least watch the first episode!

I spent a couple solo days in ATL this summer before a work conference as my foray into solo travel and you def helped me have to confidence to do it. More trips to come! I also saw someone ask about dress codes on Facebook the other day and a lot of people were saying that they're not as strict anymore and encourage people to wear what they're comfortable in and to express themselves, especially girls since they were always the most policed in the past. And teaching boys to be respectful and its not the girls job to not be 'distracting'. All for it.

While I agree that we should all feel comfortable in what we wear, crop tops can be distracting... even to other females, as shown in this video. Now add in raging testosterone and an environment where people need to focus and learn. It should be common sense and respectful to wear clothing that is comfortable and fits. I have no problem with the spaghetti straps but showing your entire torso isn't even allowed at my gym- for both males and females. Our culture is too focused on the victim mentality when it should be about mutual respect.

It's so funny to see the absent dress codes because, where I live, even the public school kids wear uniforms. They do get out of uniform days occasionally, but they're very strict: shirts must have sleeves, no sundresses, no bare midriffs, no holes in pants, no leggings as pants. As a mom of 3, I love it like that.

You are correct about the south. In a lot of rural areas there is no trash pick up so the only option you have is to burn it. Some people burn it even if there is a pick up option because they don't want anything personal floating around in a land fill. :)

Regarding the trash situation 😂 I grew up in the outside of city limits where it's mostly country roads and such. It was about a 10 minute drive into town so it wasn't in the absolute middle of nowhere. BUT a lot of places like that (at least in Arkansas) don't have city trash if you're outside a certain limit. You load your own trash bins into the vehicle and take them to the nearest county dump and do it yourself and/or a lot of people do burn trash. Growing up with my grandparents, they would only burn paper like junk mail, newspaper, cardboard boxes, etc. They never burned like legit actual trash but some people do or it's their only option. Actually, I believe some things are illegal to burn depending on what it is.
