It’s the 4th of December 1950 and 6 F4U Corsairs of Fighter Squadron 32 fly low over the snow-topped mountains of North Korea. At the controls of two of the fighters are aviators Thomas J. Hudner and Jesse LeRoy Brown. They are brothers in arms and best friends on a mission to protect US Marines against Chinese advance. But suddenly the mission takes a turn for the worse with a single transmission.
“Jesse, you are streaming something. It looks as if you are streaming fuel.”
Tom turns his attention to his friend’s aircraft and is concerned to see a trail of liquid leaking from behind the aircraft. Aboard the stricken Corsair, Jesse is quick to confirm the men’s fears.
“Yes, I am losing fuel. And I don’t know how long I’ll be able to stay up.”
What happened next was an incredible act of bravery where Tom would deliberately put his plane down on a mountainside in hostile territory to try and save his friend.

I don't mean to be mean, but didn't you already post this story?
For people who might have missed it because it is not shown in an obvious way here, what we have in the last scene is a missing man formation. It's an aerial salute performed in memory of fallen pilots. The plane which pulls up in to the sky symbolizes the fallen pilot who has went up to the heavens. Look it up, it's beautiful.

I watched the movie called "Devotion" and I gotta say it's a masterpiece in my book, with all the struggles he had to go through from his allies and enemies, just for a heartbreaking ending with a quote for all of us to hear, he will never be forgotten for his bravery and determination to fight until the end for his country.

I did not like the movie because in my opinion they could’ve done better to make it more accurate to the book, for example, they never shot down a Mig-15 fighter jet and Jesse blew up that bridge with bombs not rockets I’m pretty sure

devotion was a good movie, It was sad that Jesse died. Jesse was an amazing person, and I am awed that Hudner risked capture to save him, where others would fly away and get help from helos
Imagine, having a friend that would crash an airplane to try to save you. Now that is true devotion. Shame he couldn't save him. But at least he wasn't alone at the end.

The missing man formation at the end as Jesse peels way into heavens brought a tear to my eye. I have become fascinated by Jesse's short but exemplary life and you have done his and Tom Hudner's memories a great service.
I remember asking a couple months ago for you guys to remake this story with your new animation style. I’m so happy to see it actually happened.
What hurts is that the movie flopped in theaters. Having read the book and seen the movie, it’s a fantastic adaptation, and I really wish more people were able to see it.
The animation here is BREATHTAKING
I was there when you published your first video about this story, so this is all the more exciting to see a newer fresh version of the story with amazing graphics. Keep on going yarnhub team, just dont burn yourselfs out tho.
Very heartwrenching and amazing at the same time. The story telling ability at Yarnhurb through art and through narration has provided many a tear on this day. Thank you for telling this story.

That is some amazing bravery and friendship those pilots had for each other. I saw the movie DEVOTION as well... great film too!
Glad this story was able to get this treatment. Truly one of the best stories you guys ever done.

These animations look absolutely beautiful keep up the work I absolutely love the channel ❤.
What a heartbreaking shame to lose a pilot and friend of that calibre. Thank you for your sacrifice, Jesse. Your honor is an inspiration.
Seeing how this was a remake of a video from 3 years ago, shows the amount of progress and how much your skill has grown in between the years. No words can describe just how beautiful the animations are, bravo!

Very touching! I've known this story from other source before, but your rendition of all those eye gesture and facial gesture, plus the high similarity of their appearance to their photos, added lots of mood to the video!
Dont know how historically accurate Devotion is, but it was a damn good movie imo. Really illustrated just how deep the friendship and loyalty went and how heartbreaking the circumstances of the loss were. Regardless, a great story and a great man.

The movie was amazing Devotion 👏 Honor to Tom he stayed with him till the chopper came Tom tried everything he could to get him out of that plane Tom decided his whole life to get Jesse's body back but it never happened😢❤
Damn this is a serious golden remake from your old video. It metamorphs like a butterfly
I saw the original video, but this one made me tear up.
I love how yall are remastering old works with this artstile
In the story @1:30, you mention Jesse's canopy, slammed shut, and his fuselage bent, after crashing. But, when you show Tom coming up to Jesse's plane, the canopy is open. Did Jesse manage, to open it?? Sometimes promises, no matter how hard we try, unfortunately cannot be kept, 'cause of extenuating circumstances, beyond our control!! That's part of life unfortunately, too😔. I didn't know that Jesse was the 1st., Black naval aviator. Thanks for teaching, us that monumental historical fact☺️!! So, Tom had a destroyer commissioned, after him (hat, @7:30)👍👏👏!!!
What a heart wrenching story. I couldn't imagine being so close yet so far to saving your friend.
The fact that the North Koreans would help him find his buddy is heartwarming have a great day
Nice animation, noticeable improvement from the old days!
“No homie left behind” -The bro code

oof, that last scene where they're flying in formation and Jesse pulls up in the missing man formation just slapped me in the face.

YarnHubs animations were great the first time they made this video. V 2.0 is a real testament to how much they have improved and it’s astounding. I’d like to imagine that these brothers of the skies met at the gates above. “I’m sorry for failing to bring you home””you brought me home to my wife in your heart. That’s more that enough. Let’s take one more flight together”… then they fly through the skies of heaven
This remake shows the work that you have doneto improve over the yars
Some stuff that sadly contributed to Jessey LeRoy's death: - Fuel leak - Cold - Terrain - Equipment which were not going to help in that situation - Control stick and it location - Weather

The emotions conveyed in the graphics are .... well, beautiful beyond belief. You would think, watching it, that you were watching real, live actors, but they convey far more than film can do. At least, please God, they are together again now.
Your first video of this made me wanna see the movie that came out. Thanks for the recommendation!
The animations just keep getting better and better! Awesome

i dont know how you make these so fast, and i dont know how they just get better, and better. A hell of a story, great video.
Wow, stumbling upon this video brought back memories! Two years ago, I actually wrote a report on this very topic, and let me tell you, seeing it brought to life through this incredible animation is mind-blowing. The attention to detail and the way the visuals draw you in is simply amazing. Kudos to the creator for their talent and dedication in making such immersive content!
As every week passes, and with each new video I am sounding more, and more like a broken record. Each week I say “this is Yarnhubs best video yet”. That is a testament to how everyone in their team improves, and strives for better with each passing video. The heart and passion of every story beams through the retelling of each pivotal episode. The courage, and honor shown in this story is what all of we Veterans, and those currently serving strive to uphold, and honor. This story is a reminder that even in the angst of uneasy times the best of humanity always tries to find a way to rise above it.
the animation of this channel has gotten incresilingly better
The ending was beautiful
