Whelen Hornet, Full Hi-Lo: Paoli, IN (Orange Co. Tornado Siren Test, HD)

Ғылым және технология

Copyright 2016, Brandon Mendel (Please use with permission).
Originally Recorded 12/23/2016
Roughly a month ago, I met up with Chris and Nick once again to catch one of Paoli's oddly activated Hornets (You may have already seen their cool videos of them already). This one is located on the south part of town at Water and 3RD. There's another by the hospital which I recorded a couple times. It's possible there's a third siren, but from all the hunting I did, I couldn't find it (if it even exists).
Paoli has traditionally tested in 'wail', however at some point they started testing them in 'hi-lo' possibly every week, but not always. I'm guessing it depends on the dispatcher testing the system. Another siren enthusiast checked this out last year and it did the usual wail. You could imagine how surprised we all were when this siren quickly switched back to the 'hi-lo' tone.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

    I'd much rather hear a real spinning-rotor siren - like my *Federal Signal 2t22A* . When concluding a monthy test, love hearing it coast down for over a minute to rotor stop.

    I live in French Lick, about fifteen or so minutes down the highway from Paoli. I asked and siren tests are conducted every Friday at noon. Sometimes earlier, sometimes up at nearly 20 minutes late. The one near my apartment (by the school in town) does the wail, not the hi-lo. Just some updated info, in case anyone wants to know.

  • @DSRX100

    @DSRX100

    These sirens don't have collector rings. So the head is directly wired to the rotator. If it were to continue rotating without turning back, the wires would snap.

  • @NeilPrasad_1905

    @NeilPrasad_1905

    Then why Whelen rotating sirens don't have collector rings?

  • @queencitysirens8755

    @queencitysirens8755

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@NeilPrasad_1905 Because a mechanical siren doesn't have drivers and an amplifier that needs to bring a signal to them. It's just easier and doesn't really matter. Electronic sirens without collector rings are more reliable in my opinion. Plus no collector rings are small enough to carry almost 0 volts, unless the drivers are on a 70v amp, but I don't think they are.
