awesome channel! Please consider doing a series about wheel building for particular bike groups. From zero to hero kind of thing. Yes I know there are plenty similar videos here, but I suspect that you can smuggle a bit of additional tips. Like the one on building a wheel with slight offset which will get perfectly dished when the tire will be fitted. I'll experiment with this next time I'll be building dh set for me.

Really appreciate your expertise and love watching the channel 🤞🏼 Can you do a video on straightpull vs Classic/flange hubs? My wheelbuilder only uses straightpull when customers really want it, otherwise he says the flange hubs make for a stiffer wheel.

This is something we keep talking about making but haven't yet made....leave it with me and I promise we'll do it in the next few months :-) -Tristan

What about rim-nipple-spoke assembly in terms of lubrication? There is a lot of opinions regarding it - it seems like there are 4 opinions where 3 people are arguing... Linseed oil and oils in general, greases of all flavors, anti-seize agents, thread locks. I saw that some blogs even suggest dipping spoke thread in grease and then apply a thread lock. I saw people even lubricating j-bend to prevent a galvanic corrosion on a hub side as well. What's your opinion on this topic? What makes and doesn't make sense. What's your approach - can you share that?

Wow that's a big topic! We could do a full video on that! We don't use any sort of thread-lock like spoke-prep or linseed oil and prefer to correctly stress-release the wheel rather than relying on gluing the components together. A well built wheel shouldn't require any mechanical locking or gluing to hold it together - the build quality, stress release, and even tension should be enough. We use a special grease between the spoke and nipple to keep the nipples turning smoothly for years to come, and another grease between the nipple and rim just to ensure a nice installation without damage to the nipple. -Tristan

@@WheelworksHandcraftedWheels can you shed some light on types of greases you use as well as grease grades? If not, please share an info about properties of the grease you want to use in these two locations. I. E. Should a grease between nipple and rim should be covered in thick assembly grease like motorex white assembly grease and between nipple and spoke something lighter? Or vice versa?

@@pawelrek I'm not going to tell you what grease we use because it's secret :-) Between the spoke and nipple you want a long-lasting grease that won't wash away...something nice and thick. The grease between the nipple and rim is basically just there for the wheelbuilding process so something easy to clean off afterwards is what we choose. Have a play around and see what you like and let me know! -Tristan

@@WheelworksHandcraftedWheels that's fair. I wasn't expecting to see any specific grease in your reply anyway. This answer is more than enough. But I promise you that your answer will help a lot of people. Thank you!

@@pawelrek Glad it points you in the right direction! Sometimes we don't mind saying exactly how we do something, sometimes we keep it secret, and sometimes it's best to not copy our way as what we do can often be quite specific. Enjoy the wheelbuilds and experimenting with new techniques! Tristan
