They're terrific -- clearly you can see that half of the persona we know as George Burns was inspired by Woolsey, who sadly, died in the 1930s. Had he lived long enough to join the other pioneers of comedy on TV, baby boomers might have come to know and love him as we did with Hope, Benny, Burns and Berle.

I can't believe I hadn't heard of these hilarious two until recently!!

I discovered their films on TCM & now own most on DVD. I am also a big fan of The Three Stooges, Abbott & Costello & The Bowery Boys as well which I watched after school & on weekends. The Three Stooges especially were a perfect fit for television years later due to their length and kid friendly antics. Unfortunately Wheeler & Woolsey were. Pre-Hays Code & basically The Two Stooges for adults due to their sexual & risque subject matter.

I have all of there movies. Most of them would no longer be allowed to be made. Buy them on DVD while you still can.

So this is Wheeler and Woolsey. I never heard of these comedians before.

Yes, they among the best of the 1930s comedians, sadly they were almost completely forgotten because of the early death of Robert Woolsey at age 50 in 1938.

I thoroughly enjoyed their movie Hook, Line, and Sinker, and I've been hoping to find more by them.
