Everything with Graucho was an exchange, "but what about this other revelation...?" He was an incomparable human being. I lived amongst his work for many decades, but didn't appreciate it. A Comedic Genius, naturally funny the rare person that can take words , phrases gestures we all use daily . but by magnifying them through his unique comedic lens making us think about them in different ways wildly funny are retrospectively .Mark Twain had that and the late great Norm Macdonald in my opinion.

And they had no rights and had no choice but to use their beauty to manipulate men into supporting them financially. Is that really the basis you want for a relationship? One based off power and manipulation? Women are justifiably fed up with that arrangement, and men should be too (unless your personality sucks and you rely on money to attract women). It is on men now to evolve to a more mature being that is not power and ego-obsessed. If and when that day comes, I promise you women are more than ready for it and will shower us with all their feminine sexuality ;)

I'm surprised at the number of people commenting that this type of humor would not work today. Call me naïve, but nearly everything Groucho said seemed totally normal, even by today's "woke" standards. I might use some of these lines myself, actually! 👍

Back in the days of tongue in cheek

From what I know, only in the first few handful of radio episodes was Groucho informed who were the contestants -- he felt it interfered with spontaneity. The show did have dedicated joke writers, where contestants were encouraged to follow certain queries that Groucho had been scripted to ask, that was likely to lead to an interesting story that had been discovered during interviews prior to the show. So, it was half spontaneous and half scripted. But the real comedy started when Groucho used his talents and experience to go beyond the script and venture into the minds of the contestants. Groucho couldn't resist a pretty face and nice figure, which got him into difficulties, as he really needed to prefer those who were quick witted or talented in the arts, rather than hoochie coochie. Groucho never resolved that his mother, which all the Marx brothers adored, favored Chico, and he was forever trying to catch a glamorous lady in compensation.

He was a genius in his way. Very fast mind.

1st lady was Kathryn Gabriel a miss universe as she stated and also yrs later miss USA 4th runner up 1957. seems she became an actress + also with Elvis.

Simply gorgeous!!!!

If you look at 5:30 the woman who is talking to Groucho about men thinking that because of her voice there's a man at her apartment she makes a very intense look at Groucho. Watch it carefully because you will see her gaze right into Groucho with a lot of intensity when she says that she's never had a man in her apartment. After he breaks rapport with her, she laughs and then bites her lip as a sign of Attraction for him. Personally I like women who have those types of voices because they have a very sensual type of personality and I see that this woman is trying to take advantage of that by coming on to Groucho. That's just shows how powerful of an influence Groucho was to both men and women in his time.

Except for the fact that almost everything he said on this video was written on cue cards...you can see him glancing to the side at them. A lot of what was said by the contestants was prepared.
