    Old school retired O/O here, Tires were my second biggest expense after fuel! I ran Centra-Matic's on all positions on my truck and trailer! I also had my tires spin balanced to check for "out of round" and how much weight it would take to get them to balance! Over 6 oz's, get another tire! I was pretty anal about that, and informed the tire shop before the work was started! If they would not agree, I would find another tire shop! It worked for me, and my tires lasted and wore great, and the truck and trailer just glided down the road! Good to see ya Ezra!

    Labour Day. Good to see your video. Yes I use my Milwaukee to take my wheels off. I had a mechanic over one day. He said I can’t see that half inch Milwaukee taking truck tires off. I said hold on I showed him. That was at 450 torque. He said holly sh t. Also I use these Teflon spacers between the wheels and brake drums. And between inner and outer wheel. Great show. Take care.

    Hello Ezra! 👋😊 Great to see a video from you again. I always enjoy your content. I actually just purchased a set of the Centra-matic balancers for a 1978 Peterbilt 352 that my wife and I are "restoring". This was a fantastic relief to hear you have had a measurable change in tire wear over approximately 100K!!! As you stated, they are not a cheap solution but I was very hopeful that they would be a long-term solution. I purchased sets for my steer axle and both drive axles...along with a full fresh set of rubber. Your videos have been a blessing to our project, as I am not a professional driver or truck mechanic. I have used many of your videos to learn or get a general idea of how to perform maintenance on our truck. I am actually about to re-watch some of your older videos as I get ready to do drive axle seals and brakes on the truck soon. We also loved watching ALL of your videos on re-building Old Red! Your interior series helped us with ideas and methods to update our own interior. 👍 God bless and good luck sir! Eli, Tracy & the Goose (the 352's name is Goose)

    Yeah I got some experience with those also as you know I'm a diesel mechanic or was retired now so I put on a few of those in my day The companies that work for world owner operators and company drivers mostly and the owner operators would do things to try and make tires last of course and they tried your little trick there and they had pretty good results so they are little pricey but I think they're worth it they sure seem to be because I've seen the tire wear what it looks like after they've been on there a long time and it's way better than without. But thanks for the video we haven't seen much from you lately but this was a really neat one brings back a lot of memories.

    O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 My brother put a set on his cabover Pete back in the day & said that it ran much smoother, tires lasted much longer. He went through a few trucks during that time & didn’t take them off before he sold the trucks, regretfully. I don’t know how expensive those things are, but I’ve heard that they are worth it in the long run, like you said. I will probably put the. On my trucks when I get that far along. Good video. Almost made me think that the next day was so much better weather wise. LOL! Blessings my friend.🤩🥰✌️

    I increased caster on my 56 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup to 8 degrees ,50 yrs ago . Ran straight down the road no wandering . An extreme version is on dragster axels . They back up wheels flop left n right to right from even more caster .

  • @Ezrider359

    @Ezrider359

    9 ай бұрын

    Yeah you can't back up with the pusher axle down it will try to steer hard to one side or the other and drag the tires. Always need to lift the axle before backing up. For race car alignments I use a lot of caster angle so you have a strong return to center but then I'll use a good bit of toe out to create some instability and make it react quickly to inputs. Makes the car dart on small inputs but the strong return to center makes it easier to catch the car in a side. The caster angle will also help with camber gain as the wheel is turned. But I guess that's a really wordy way of saying there is a lot to alignments depending on your desired outcome and different settings will achieve different outcomes

    Okay, first of all you should know that an old school alignment includes bending the axle. One place I recommend is Central Alignment in Knoxville, TN. Mike is an old codger that will pick apart anything else that will be causing tire wear; ie, tie rods, kingpins, shocks, etc. But when he gets done, your tires will be in good hands. As far as balancing goes, put five golf balls in each tire. They balance way better than centramatics and target low spots way better. Plus it saves you $300

    @@etcllc3519 yeah hard to find but means there normally booked out quite a ways I actually called them last week because a payloader backed into my steer tire and my wheel wasn't centered afterwards. They said there booked for 4 weeks ended up taking it somewhere else to get the alignment checked because they had a cancelation and could get me in right away they basically looked at it and said it was good and re centered the wheel. I was basically like no if the wheel moved off center the alignment moved something has to be out. Hopefully it's good enough where I don't destroy my steers before I can get a proper alignment.
