Wheel balancer

Ғылым және технология

Simple wheel balancing with a steel ball and a bolt.
You can also choose to split the necessary weight in two.
Example: You need to put 50 grams on the wheel.
Put 25 grams on the inside, and 25 grams on the outside of the rim, or use Steel Stick On Wheel Weights in the exact centre of the rim.
All you need is a bolt, M 24 or thicker, a petange ball (jeu des boules) and weight to put on the rim.
Example of wheel weight: bit.ly/QAYoGZ and Steel Stick On Wheel Weights: bit.ly/OyMxM8
-----

I just balanced my aftermarket wheels that has been wobbling and for some reason the auto shop just can't get it decently balanced previously. I bought a $8 billiard cue ball and set it on top of a 4"x4" metal plate which is resting on top of a 5 gallon bucket as the stand. Tricky part is to determine how level it is since a leveler on top could cause it to become off balance depending on where you set it on the wheel, I ended up just eyeballing it. Had to take out 1.25oz worth of weights on one side and added a couple of stick on weights from harbor freight. Test drove it and got minimum vibration at 70mph! Thank you again for this!!

Do it on a flat tabletop that you have previously leveled, and you can measure up from the table to the bottom of the wheel.

Put a little oil on the ball. Forget about the table so long as it doesn't wobble. Lay a short, flat board across the middle of the wheel and set a bowl of water on that. The distance from the settled surface of the water to the top of the bowl will show you any tilt in the wheel / tire assembly.

I used this method and it worked pretty well. You can buy a 3 inch steel ball for $21 online so it's a cheap way to get a good static balance. I put a small amount of light oil on the ball and set it on a level block of aluminum. It was very sensitive. Did you notice when he disturbed the tire that it kept rocking back and forth? I had to close my garage door because the wind was moving it around. I used calipers and measured from the tire to the floor all around. There is no relative movement between the wheel and the ball. All of the rolling motion is between the ball and the hard surface you put it on. This static balance gets me to about 65 mph before I start to feel a little vibration so it's not as good as a spin balance but I think it's better than using one of those cheap bubble levels.

Great idea! I suggest that you make a level line on the wall behind you as a sight reference. If you don’t want a line on your wall you could just hang a level horizontally and move it when you are not balancing tires. Thanks for the great idea!

Clever idea for DIY solution. The only problem I see is that you're relying on the naked eye to perceive exactly where the tire is tipping so your weight placement may not be precise. You could probably refine this idea a bit by adding a circular bubble level.

well, to balance a car tire is not a big issue, the tire is marked telling you where to put the heavy side next to the valve, so that you will know where to put the wait on the rim to even up the score , about 1 once will fix it up, look for that little white sticker some where on the bead flat of the tire, and that is the heaviest part of the tire, put that as close to the valve as you can, put the tire on the rim, air it up , watch your finger you only have 10,...and am sure you will like to keep them all, always when airing up the tire keep hands away from the tire BEAD, that's is where the tire slaps the rim to the bead, now doing the balance? take a once of what ever kind of wait you are going to use to make the balance, go strait up from the valve and add a once, that will do the job, but you have to make double sure that you have the heavy part of the tire next to the valve, if you have the heavy part of the tire over to the left side of the valve, then, your going have to put on your once of wait led to the right side, and if you put the heave part of the tire over to the right side of the valve, then you need to add a once of let over to the left , if you can find that little round colored circle on the side of your tire put the once strait across from that round mark, and if you cant not find the mark on your tires then, like I said before, look for that little white sticker that is located on the tire it's right next to the bead of the tire , you cant miss it, after the tire is aired up and the bead is seated on the rim, then you cant find it now, line it up with the valve, add a once right strait up from it , that should do the job, and it could happen that some time 1 tire might be all balanced don't need any led, and if this might happen, you will know if it's the front, because it would shake stronger then the back tire will, because it's on the staring , I have tried the beads, didn't like it was shaking when I would take my foot of the gas pedal , so I took them out of all my 4 tires, and did it the way am telling you, works perfect no shaking nothing perfect .

This does work and can be a cost effective way to balance tires. The ball centers precisely on the center of the wheel (unlike a bubble balancer) The plate the ball rests on should be flat and level, then you can use a self levelling laser to find the high spot - where the weight is added. Here is what I did. Look for links in the text under the videos kzread.info/dash/bejne/lqKbj9p9f9u7Zco.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/k2iD2sF-ncudddo.html

The hole in my Dodge RAM 2500 wheels is about 4.75". I hope the ball is strong enough to support the heavy wheel without causing a flat spot on the ball that prevents wheel movement. Doesn't matter if the table is perfectly flat or not, and you don't really need a level to do this, as long as the ball is round, gravity will do the rest, makes prefect since to me

I think flatness does matter significantly. Level maybe not quite as much but certainly level enough to prevent rolling.

That’s a good idea but you didn’t balance that wheel and tire worth a $hit.

it would be nice to let the tire STOP moving before you put the weights on it ... LOL And measuring the distance from the table to the tire is NOT a good idea because now you are talking mm's in distance that you are off ... Good idea but your measurement is not very accurate
