It's good David. Simple & low cost are things to strive for. I bet you could make the MDF support block smaller and if the block was out of balance it would have less effect on the wheel balance. You didn't go for the self leveling laser though. It's kind of handy for projecting a horizontal line or plane and finding the high spot around the rim... kzread.info/dash/bejne/k2iD2sF-ncudddo.html Thanks for sharing

I watched your laser way of level and also your reasons why some wheels will tip off the ball. I half understand the tipping off reason but wheel balancing only takes a small part of my life so I won't think too much about it. I looked into buying a ball but they wanted $70. Wheels only cost $8 each to get a dynamic balance. It would be even more silly of me to buy a laser level as I might only balance 2 wheels per year. Even me making the video was a waste of time. The average view was 15.8% of the video or 33seconds before the viewer switched off.

@@David167projects I was doing the laser method (~ US$30) as a possible way to improve on the bubble balancer I got, which turned out to be an expensive (~$90) paperweight . The 80mm glass ball here on Amazon USA cost about $15. Then I came up with a vertical balancer method using a rear wheel hub for each car. I got a new one (~$50) and took the seal out of it so it would turn more freely. This works quite well and is now my goto balancer, but it's limited to the wheel stud pitches. The ball can be a universal balancer - if it is stable. The engineer in me had to find out why. Took a while. Yes, balancing was supposed to be a final step and easy to do. I do my motorbike wheels vertically, no issues, using their own axles suspended between a couple of plastic saw horses. We have a tire store here called discounttire.com - very good store, very fast, but their hard sell, install costs and lack of flat fixing pushed me towards DIY. So I do it for me and our kids - if they want me to do it. I post this stuff as a memory jogger for me, so I don't care to much about netting viewers. Used to do powerpoint slides, but then the kids got me a video camera for retirement, which I think is better - until google kicks me off, just like photobucket did :) My next job?? Putting new batteries in TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors). Our 2009 XB (Ruckus in Oz) just had the warning light come on & stay on. Yes black tape is the cheapest fix, but...
