Hi, I am using the same phone but changed my number. My chats have backed up for me and saved in the same chats but my contacts have to open a new chat with me so our chat history is gone for my contacts. How can they merge my chats so they can speak to me on the old chat with the new number? Thanks

is helpful, plan to change number and transfer my WhatsApp chat, but having another issue here which is previous owner still actively using the whatsapp with my new number. I can just proceed the step you showed to get back the WhatsApps account of my new number right ? as verification is through phone call or SMS only

Great question, usually the carrier won’t assign the old number to a new user for a couple of months, after than I don’t know 🤷‍♀️

The new setting allows you to custom choose who you want to notify about your number change

Let’s say I try to change number this way:) and when I select notify contacts I ONLY SELECT ONE CONTACT what does that means for the rest of the contacts? They will still have multiple contact as my old number right? They won’t know much new number even if they tap on my old number? Can anyone explain this properly please? 1:51

They will still have your old number, eventually the carrier will assign that old number to another person, and then your old contacts will never know you changed your number, only that 1 contact you selected will know.

I tried but it says the phone number I entered doesn't match my account.. but the phone numbers are correct the old and new one.. pls what can I do???

You need to change the number on your old device first.

What if i have only one phone? Can i do backup, change number, backup again?

What happens when your old phone (with old numbe) is an Android, and your new phone (with new number) is an iPhone , or vice versa. Each companies has its own backup cloud. iPhone - iCloud. Android - Google Drive.

No because its a combination of Phone number & email account to do a backup.

I only have 1 phone how do I do it with 1 phone?

You have to take a backup of old number on whatsapp chat backup. And then change your number through account settings. Do one more backup (this will save it another backup with new number) and then you're good to restore chats in any WhatsApp account given that your phone is logged in with the email that has the backup of both numbers.
