Whats The Best RV Sewer Hose?

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This week we put an RV hose to the test to see if it can live up to the advertisement claims. The advertising made it seem like it is indestructible so we wanted to see for ourselves if it could pass the test. I also give you my recommendations on the hoses we have used and what we like. If you have had a story of an RV Sewer hose failure, you know how important it is to have one you know will last and work well for you.

I know this is an older video, but I am done with the Rhino Flex. It does not hold up to UV light in FL or AZ. We FT and have to replace our hose every 3 months. THe Rhino Extreme lasted over 8 months. Worth the extra cost for sure!!

LOL!!!! To funny! My wife and I full timed for 15 years here in the North East in a Excel by Pederson Industries 5th wheel. Weather ranging from 100 degrees in the summer time to 20 below Zero in the winter. The Rhino flex Extreme failed 1 month into January! Sprung a leak, didn't step on it or anything. We don't full time anymore and I just purchased a Rhino Flex regular hose for my truck camper.

A few comments on the hoses from a 10 year long full-timer - I have found the Rhino Extreme by far the most durable. I've actually had problems with the Rhino Flex cracking and leaking. Lastly, I find the small heads on the Rhino products to be a problem. I don't have a lot of strength in my hands and because of the trim size of the heads, there's nothing to grab on to...no large wings, paddles, or protrusions that my gloved hands can bite into. I struggle to separate the hoses. Even with that issue, I use the Rhino Extreme. It's a great hose.

Already snowing in Prescott?! I've been wanting to buy the one Exoskeleton just because I thought it should be nice to have one with great durability! I have the RhinoFlex version and you're right on how you can make it compact especially on travel days if you have more than 20 feet of sewer hose. During my research the versions that Camco has is how they are used from Weekend warriors, to seasonal campers, to Full timers. For me the RhinoFlex version is sufficient enough for full time living. I just changed one of the 10-ft hose after a year of usage.

Hi Jared, I have to say that after 3 years of full-time RV living, I totally agree with your evaluation and final conclusion of preferring the RhinoFlex sewer hose. I have lived in an area with frequent extreme hail storms that totally demolished the cheaper, more flexible sewer hoses, while leaving my RhinoFlex unscathed. I am sure the Rhino Extreme would have survived the storms as well, but I chose the RhinoFlex because it compresses to a much smaller size than the Rhino Extreme for convenient storage.

We had a cheap hose that came with out 5th wheel for four years before it developed a pin hole geyser. We replaced it with two Rhino Flex hoses before going full time. Both replacements developed major eruptions after one year. The problem may be related to the Texas heat, but maybe not. When I replace them, it won’t be with Rhino.

The dragging test should have been over gravel, where the gravel would get in between the ribs of the exoskeleton. That's why people use Sidewinders, to avoid pinholes caused by dragging their sewer hose over gravel in campsites. Still a good video, though, thanks.

I got almost 2 years of full time use out of my Rhino Flex Extreme--decent hose. I never did any of that stuff to it though. Eventually it sprang a leak in the hose material. If you're parked in one spot for more than a couple months, using an adapter and straight pipe with a couple rubber connections and threaded fitting at the end is a decent option.

We sold a travel trailer to a young lady who had a space in a very small RV park next to Texas Motor Speedway. We delivered it, and helped she and her brother get everything connected. Except for the sewer. The park manager said to not worry about it, that his dad would be by the next day to hook it up. All of the trailers had semi-permanent PVC pipe connections to their sewer system. The owner liked it that way, so he hooked them up himself. Maybe had a very bad experience with a sewer how years ago?

Another vote for the Rhino Flex, here. Going on 4 years full-time with our original. I was fortunate, as we were absolute nooBs going into this. Staring at the selection of sewer hoses at Camping World, we decided to go with the not-the -most-expensive hose, and, to be honest, Camco does a good marketing job on these. But after pulling some of these hoses out of the package to give feel how the hose material felt, we went with the Flex. I also liked the 90-degree connector at the sewer connection, and purchased the 45-degree RV-end connector. Our RV included a starter package that had the VERY basic assemble-it-yourself sewer hose. He told us to NOT use that. Just throw it in a storage compartment for emergency use only, and to buy a real sewer hose for day-to-day use.

Jared, I mounted a storage tube under my RV and put my 15 foot Titan hose in it after a year of use storing it in my bumper. It was a force fit because the hose would not collapse back to the original length and now it is miss formed with many kinks. 1. Does the Rhino Exstream collapse back to it’s original size? 2. When taken out of the shipping package did it have kinks? If so did they reform back to an un kinked state? Thanks, Tom

Hello, I watch almost every informative episode on your channel. I was wondering if you have tested the Camco magnetic end cap. I bought a 20 foot (2x10 ft) Rhino Extreme sewer hose and I have to really push to cram it into my GD2500RL bumper storage tube. Then I also have to cram the end cap on as well. Now I am worried about the hose popping one of the caps off while on the road so I have three questions; 1. Are the magnets truly strong enough to keep the Camco cap on? 2. It looks like Camco only addressed one side (Driver’s side) of the bumper is there a product that will address the passenger side end cap from popping off? 3. Does the Camco magnetic cap require any extra space in the bumper tube, like I mentioned, I really had to cram the hose into the bumper tube.

I have been using the waste master hose for a year now. It’s actually made by drain master but sold by LCI because they have a bigger market share, I called and talked to Drain Master and found this out. Personally I think it is the best hose and most durable on the market. I have a 28’ hose that is stored in a tube under my 5er frame (I also have an additional 20’ extension hose that is also stored under my RV). It uses a commercial cam lock connector which is far superior in quality and ease of use to all bayonet connections. The cam lock is used throughout industry and it is fast, easy and never leaks. This hose is one piece, it includes the shutoff valve, clear section and campground connector. You don’t have to connect a clear elbow, additional sections etc. I can get my hose out of its holder and connected to my RV and in the drain hole in less than one minute. Disconnecting is just as fast. It frees up a lot of valuable space in my RV! I don’t have any stinky hose inside my RV. I’ll never have any other hose. It is very costly but worth every $, IMO. There are several KZread videos out there on this product. There is also an adapter that allows one to use the legacy bayonet connector. So one doesn’t have to worry about being in compatible with bayonet systems.

  • @ronaldw.2923

Have you test the WASTE MASTER hose with cam lock connections? I think that cam lock connections are more secure than the standard 4 point twist on connections. I have had pins on a 4 point connection wear down a little making the connection not so secure and causing leaks. It didn't take much for hose to come loose and leak icky stuff.

I've been rving for 30 years. I'm full time now that I retired. I can absolutely say that camco is pure garbage. In one week the junk I bought from Walmart for 60.00 had 17 holes and splits in it. Leaks matter. My camco is a rhino. I read over 100 bad reviews on these. Camco refuses to make it right. 60.00 I lost. I won't loose any more with camco.

I didn’t see a rating on them for UV but our full time use of the Rhino flex for more than a year has been great.

Well I know for a fact it WILL not stand up to mice... Did my first dump this spring after being winterized and it looked like a soaker hose with all of the holes in it, shh don't tell me camper neighbors.

This is exactly why I always do a short test with grey water first. If no leaks detected then I dump my black tank followed by the remainder of grey tank. This was a learned task after going through the same experience as you.

I’m thinking there is no perfect RV sewer hose. Even this one has lots of complaints on Amazon. I still ordered a 15’ one, and the ends were too loose. I sent it back. Didn’t want to risk it being defective enough to leak.

How about doing a pee trap freeze test to see if if cracks with frozen sewage/water inside?

Hint: It won't. The material is really pretty tough, and still flexible at low temps. Also: It's "p-trap", not "pee-trap". It's a description of the shape, not the liquid flowing through it. :D

I have a rhino flex I purchased in May 2022 and it has failed during my last dump. October 2023. it leaked. I am not impressed. I am not a full timer. It is connected in a season site thus we are not hooking and unhooking it.

WE bought this hose kept it in a storage box on the back of our trailer. We used it about 5 times and found a puncture in the black area. We do not keep it connected but just use it to dump.We Will not buy this again.

Bought the Rhino Flex Extreme for the same reasons. Also a tip for fellow RVers with wet bays...the hatch that you drop your hose through to the outside is held in by screws that extend beyond the bottom of your wet bay bottom/ floor such that if you lift your sewer hose and make contact, they will puncture it. I covered my screws with rubber tips until I can cut them off. Discovered this on a new to me 2015 with past owner included sewer hose that had small puncture leaks...Hmmmmm how did this happen? ..led to the answer above.

I use this hose - I only got 24 months - UV was an issue after 24 months hose leaked - still a good hose
