Another great pod with Natasha. I have watched both episodes back to back and it is fantastic to see the progression from Year 1 to present day where she is investing in existing client banks. Very inspirational for people out there who are looking to take the same path. There is a wealth of information about both in person networking and digital networking which will definitely be helpful for me personally in the future. Saving this episode to watch to revisit at a later date because I need to up my LinkedIn networking game!

I self-funded all of the R0 exams, which I completed between February 2023 and January 2024. This whole time I have been in contact with the SJP academy, and everyone I have been in contact with from the recruitment manager (Matin) to the partners have been brilliant. Unlike Natasha Percy Baxter I am opting for the employed route via the academy, but it's great to hear that the same type of things I find daunting and feel anxious about, Natasha and others did as well when they were starting out. As Natasha says, it's about being willing to push yourself in order to expand your comfort zone- I am willing to do that.

if you don't mind me asking, what starting salary have you been put on as someone who's starting out going via the employed route? I also self funded my exams and joined a network (not sjp) but via the self employed route under an existing firm within the network. Self employment offered me the flexibility and grace to give myself time to build up. However, I was just wondering what the employed route would be like. Many thanks!

@@RebeccawalkswithChrist12 hi, I’ve not actually joined the academy yet. I’m still in talks with potentially several different partner practices that are interested. I have a meeting with one on Tuesday. So it comes down to negotiation with each one- it may also depend on location. I would be looking for £35k minimum really.

@@joewarhurst5646 oh wow, good luck! I'm sure it will go well for you! Please do update us on how you get on. £35k seems very reasonable too. I'm interested in the employed Vs self employed route for people entering the industry. I think it's just personal preference. As you finished the r0s at which stage will you be joining the academy? Good luck again!

@@RebeccawalkswithChrist12yes I started with R01 at the end of February last year and then I completed the final exam in January this year. However, I’m completely new to the industry and have no experience in finance at all. Since leaving uni I’ve been working in supply chain roles in manufacturing. I’m now 29 years old and a couple of years ago I kind of thought to myself it’s now or never and I just decided to go for it. I think this is something that will suit me more and give me a lot more job satisfaction.

@@RebeccawalkswithChrist12so as for the academy I actually need to freshen up again on how it’s going to work. I’ve skipped the exam stage but I think there’s around 3 months of pure training before I actually start working properly for a partner practice.
