  • @JoeKyser

    @JoeKyser

    7 жыл бұрын

    +Axel Teboul if it's none of the above and the motor is clicking, no you don't replace the bearing i the motor, you buy a new one. check out my video about the race Star Motors there's a link in the description where you can purchase them. I've actually set challenges to various professionals to show me a completely rebuilt motor and I put up a hundred bucks to see anybody out there do it. Even a professional wont be able to replace the bearings. The odds of it being a bearing failure are slim to none anyway. Ive replaced like 8 motors and it hasn't been a bearing yet.

    excellent video gotta love the passion! Awesome when we learn shit!! In regards to heating those gears to remove i've heard of people doing it for rc helis and will be able to use motor afterwards. heat quickly breaks that thread lock and then that set screw as well will be no issue. Let me know if you hear of M1 motor replacements, those bastards wanting 266.53 to ship ONE! What i have going on is one motor is sounding off, a bit of a matalic sound like something is riding metal on metal. I'm realling thinking it a bearing.

  • @JoeKyser

    yeah problem with these are it takes a massive amount of heat. Yeah the rc ones ive meased with. Heck ive made my own. I have coil winders and crap in the shop for all different sizes. I tinker around a lot. Anyway if your taking the gear off, your probably not using that motor again. These motors really are not worth rebuilding. They are commercial junk. Now i have a set of hand wound ive been using and I will tinker with those eventually. They may be worth it.When I put the replacement gears on I use dual set screws with some blue locktite and have not needed any heat and never had any issues of it coming loose. They used some heavy duty glue or some crap Chinese throw aways really.

    no I've never had any that came with the gears so I'm going to assume that you're never going to get any with the gears on them. I have some links for the gears on eBay if you can't find them. the fastest and easiest way to get off the old gear is to take a propane torch and heat the shit out of that gear. It slips right off then. I dont even loosen the allen nut till i heat too. I usually heat it loosen the Allen nut and then heat the shit out of it again take a pair of pliers and pull it right off

    +David Thielemans holy smokes! i thought i broke the bearings in my evolve motors, turned out it was the dust cover that snapped off. ya that was an evolve motor i was holding. i did thay 3 times. switched to racestar and it never happened again. After the first motor I tried to make a warranty claim but well ya thats the video where i show they accidentally let me see the back office chatter and made the "evolves response" video. they claimed i had to of used it outside of their suggested use and wouldn't replace it but sold me a motor for $210. Then two more times. Like an idiot i paid up. Well yeah i will back the other guy any day since evolve did me like that. The owner actually emailed me and told me to call him after i made that video. He specifically said he cant wait for my phone call and they want to be sure their customers are taken care of. Im not a sell out and wasn't looking for a free handout. I make my videos as real as i can. I try to let fact take over. I try haha. sorry for the rant. i guess this is all stuff i would like to say but keep my trap shut. I would like to think that anybody that came after me got treated differently and that's enough to satisfy me and keep my trap shut. I cant support their motors though. Not after my experience with them. Is what it is.

    The reason I was interested in the disassembly was to examine the possibility of introducing a hydrophobic coating. In a future video series on our channel I'm going to examine the practicalities of weatherproofing components. Obviously with the exposed motors, this is going to have it's limits as the hydrophobic coatings aren't designed to be durable on moving parts, but in the short term it may work out well. Only testing will tell. Thanks for the disassembly video as well as sharing the motor specs.

    I'm looking into a combination approach at the moment. One solution is to use a marine water treatment.. more of a water displacing lubricant called Nanoprotech for the motors. That way anyone can do a non invasive application to the motors themselves by spraying it directly into the motors without disassembly. The second element is to use a 2 part hydrophobic spray on the speed controller and BMS. This isn't designed to allow the board to run underwater but instead is based more for those instances where you do find yourself caught in the rain or even in the case of a catastrophic immersion. The chance is that if the board is opened up and the water removed/absorbed.. it won't be a total loss. I'll let you know what I come up with and post a link to the video. I'm still doing some initial experimentation with various wheel and gear combinations to sort out max ranges for variations of the weight of the riders.

  • @JoeKyser

    +Twelve Wing Productions well one thing I know is these manufacturers out there have boards that they claim are waterproof. so what they have done is made the enclosures for the motor such as the Hub or the cover for the electronics waterproof. once you start using the board once you maintenance the board the waterproof factor completely disappears because of the fact that the electronic components themselves are not waterproof. No one has actually taken that time uet. We see potted motherboards. seald motherboards ect. a lot of people think that they do that to waterproof it I mean a lot of people think that and I know better I know it's for vibration so the parts don't vibrate off the board. Consumers are fooled lets say. What your talking about is addressing the root of the solution for sure. Not an easy task to take on. Sounds totally awesome. Im following what your saying. If you need help let me know dinary

  • @twelvewingproductions7508

    @twelvewingproductions7508

    6 жыл бұрын

    Agreed. Once a manufacturer decides to do a water proof enclosure what they find is that it's incredibly expensive to do it right and not something someone is likely to do with a skateboard. My goal in this is simply to showcase some of the options out there. I also see what you are saying about people being fooled. Either they do it themselves by not understanding the results of water incursion or by being fooled by unscrupulous and spurious claims by manufacturers. Thanks for the offer of assistance. Always good to have someone to talk to that has previously cracked into an Evolve board.

I converted an evolve using their battery and deck and wheels to use universal hardware. Im about to do another one the same way. Worst case you can always do that. Its really the wrong way to shop for these. I would ask how much are you going to use it? Where exactly are you going to use it? Also what kind of customer support will you need and will you ever need parts? Boosted is a consumers company and koowheel isnt. Now evolve can be if they want to but you pay dearly for it. As compared to boosted they want to help you take care if your board

I even stopped taking care of it I stopped using the electrical parts cleaner I mean I really wanted to see if it's going to hold up and how long. I just can't seem to kill them. the only issues I've ever had is with dust and dirt. it's when I didn't take care of them and keep them clean, they just start seizing up. actually now that I think about it all the race stars that I took off still actually worked they just made different sort of loud sound. I went to say grinding but you could hear like it was working harder than it should be. with the Evolve Motors my very first one just pretty much fell apart. I'd wire sticking out the back of it. actually when I sent the picture to evolve, they told me they're not going to honor the warranty because there's a stick stuck in my motor. I was so pissed off I was like blow it up it's not a stick idiot they are wires look closer. they were like we never saw anything like that we don't know what you did to it and I said the same thing I never saw anything like this I don't know what you guys sold me lol.

    Jason_Music yes yes there are two inside. They are tiny and looks just like the usual 608s but is maybe half the size. Then there is a sleeve it travels in I suppose to make sure the shaft stays perfectly straight. No friction on it so I wouldn't call it a bearing but it does hug the shaft. Yeah i know before i knew better i had bought 3 motors from them at over $200 a pop. They sucked. I bought two of these for under $100 and never needed any new motors again. Go figure

    Joe Kyser first of all thank you for the videos you’ve done. Evolves customer service is horrible. I bought a bamboo gtx and put about 30 miles on it and the garbage esc went bad. I got it back and rode another 20 miles or so and a motor stopped working. They wouldn’t work with me at all. Sent me a link to purchase one of their motors I can get for 1/4 the price elsewhere. So I put the board to the side and worked on my build. Bustin nomad board, evolve trucks (now I’ve been buying ownboard which are $75 shipped, half the price of evolve) ABEC 11 107mm wheels, flipsky dusk vesc 4.20, Psychotiller enclosure, Maytech on/off power switch, custom made 10s4p 10Ah battery pack with BMS for charge only, Oldboy ceramic bearings, xt 90 connectors (antispark) and flipsky vx1 remote. I spent way less to build a board at that time and with higher quality parts. Now you can get a board equivalent or better than a evolve for half the price. All in all it’s way more enjoyable for me to build and I’ve learned a lot from watching videos like you have posted and others in the esk8 community.
