    Earlier this month, I was curious about the Kicks, so I rented one for a few days. I came away impressed, and then bought TWO of them: One for me and one for my fiancee. It's entertaining to have two car payments - which combined - are still less than the payment on my previous Forester Touring.

Especially useful is your thorough comparison to other cars in the field in the last minutes, at least in the reviews I've seen by you. After all, we're all comparing one car against the competition, and having it done for us is great.

    Alex, I suggest you mention and compare interior width or front seat width when you review. Also the back seat thighy support length. It would be very helpful since some vehicles have same exterior width but much narrower seats and interior width. Some have more legroom, but their seats are terribly short

I am currently on my 3rd nissan versa hatchback SL model....looking to remain with nissan but wanted a little more cargo room....since the sentra is not in a hatchback...I have been strongly considering the nissan kick....I am going to go with a SR model.....with premium ...love the bose driver seat speaker....I can live with the so so HP...I am mainly a city commuter...but this will do for the occasional longer road trip with room for a couple more passengers...my price point also met with Nissan kicks SR

    As a small, raised CUV-like vehicle, the Kicks has a niche to fill and that is the inexpensive vehicle with good gas mileage, raised drive height and good cargo capacity . . . and it sells about 50000 a year. - I believe a 24,000 dollar AWD drive trim would seriously raise their sales numbers . . . but, I suppose that Nissan thinks that the Rogue Sport covers that niche.

    Not that Toyota’s CVT has been reliable. Honda’s, GM’s and Subaru’s are more so, though Subaru had serious issues a few years ago too.

  • @webcomment8895

    George L Toyota’s CVT is reliable. They had an issue ECU (not part of the CVT) that was recalled because the improper programming could have caused damage to many of the CVTs if not fixed in time. They also had a manufacturing defect in the first 4,000 2019 Corolla hatchbacks built. Both issues were addressed. Worse issues than this have happened to many other vehicle’s traditional automatic transmissions.

  • @afcgeo882

    @afcgeo882

    webcomment Toyota has only had the Aisin CVT on sale for 3 years. The 3,600 car recall last year was for a faulty torque converter that required a replacement. The year before that it was a different problem. So lets see... 2 out of 3 years they’ve had serious issues. What’s your definition of “reliable”?

  • @webcomment8895

    @webcomment8895

    3 жыл бұрын

    George L The same transmission was used reliably in Japan for many years. They just made minor changes for US market tastes including using a different ECU or ECU programming. It’s not a new, unproven transmission that’s only been used for 3 years. They also had a manufacturing defect in the first month of production of Corolla hatchbacks. It was then corrected and the problem no longer exists. They don’t continue producing vehicles with the same reliability issue lasting long term the way Nissan has with their Jacto transmissions.

  • @afcgeo882

    @afcgeo882

    3 жыл бұрын

    webcomment ALL transmissions are flawed until that flaw was corrected. That’s not a standard for reliability. The standard is how often they have flaws and how costly those fixes are. One transmission on a model may perform great, but put it on a different car and it becomes shit. Why? It has different forces applied onto it and has engineering differences for it to fit the other car, creating possible faults.For example, the transmission we’re talking about, before being applied to the Corolla/Auris was used only on the smaller Vitz/Yaris/Echo line. Then Toyota adapted it to the Auris/Corolla by modification, which caused the issues.

(I live on a island and have to ferry to the mainland) and the comparison was huge. The 2020 Soul has so much more pickup. Additionally, many of these Crossovers have these small rear windows. It's to give them a sleeker look but it reduces visibility a lot. Only the Forester (the leased car I turned in) had similar visibility to the KIA Soul.

    This guys really good, but like many others he tends to mix together whats important about one car to another. In other words, if hes reviewing a $50k-$60k car I'll understand and appreciate him going over all the ins and outs...like how well the drivers seat adjusts. But at this price point? Its pretty irrelevant and certainly shouldn't be factored into the score he's going to give it. This is why reviews for cars are becoming less and less valuable I think. You look at what a lot of these sites are giving lower scores for and a lot of it just doesn't make sense. Personally Ive been studying all the cars in my price range which is up to $25k. Mainly the hatchback type. The Mazda 3 Hatchback won out after weeks of research. Its been looking like I'll be paying my limit of $25k for the Mazda give or take. Then today I happened upon a Nissan site around here that has a handful of new 2020 Kicks leftover. All either SR or SV trim...$16,000-$16,800! The 2021 Kicks at these trims are $21k-$23k. So Im like damn, I dont think I can ignore this! Im paying cash outright and going to keep it forever so...a lil more important decision than usual. What do yall think? Thats a giveaway price isnt it for the new 2020s?

    I came close to buying a Kicks in late 2018, but since the trade-in estimator was gone for the day I left and never bought it. Now, having just watched your reviews of the Kicks and K5 back to back, I'm not sure why anyone would buy the Kicks, except for its higher seating position. The K5 gets the same fuel economy, but it's quicker, quieter, larger, and nicer, and it doesn't have a CVT. Plus, it has the better warranty. You can get a decent K5 for the same price as a Kicks SR.

    @@trent7080 While it is not known how reliable or unreliable the Kicks is, it is understandable that someone would assume Nissans are not so reliable. They have had CVT issues with their early Jatco-supplied models. However, I don't think those issues are as prevalent anymore. My wife has had her 2015 Versa Note since new (well, technically, not brand-new but only 3,000 miles on the odometer) and now has 66,000 miles. It hasn't had a single drivetrain-related issue other than the serpentine belt cracking at 50,000 miles which is not unheard of. It's actually never had any issues at all.

Hyundai/Kia have had their fair share of issues with their 2011-2013 models with that shit Theta but other than that, their track record from the last 15-20 years is stellar and far better than Nissan's. Plus, unlike Nissan, even if you do have issues with your Hyundai's engine or trans late in it's life, you're covered with a far longer warranty. It's pathetic Nissan only offers a 5 year, 60,000 mi powertrain warranty since they're hard to trust anyway.

Also their sales in the US are tanking and there are rumors they might pull out of the US market. They are the Chrysler of the Japanese auto makers.
