Oh god I love this format
Given how mean-spirited so many of these “what your favourite X says about you” videos can be, this was a nice, wholesome change of pace. Also as a massive fan of Lovecraft’s works, the dread of being asked about him as a person is real.

They do tend to be mean, don't they? Like, some people out there need to work out some issues. I like how Willow is doing this, it's fun and friendly. Also I nearly spit out my drink when she got to the "called a big fat racist" part.
Lovecraft and Poe fan here... Existential dread is my constant companion. Haha

Sadly, I can relate. I loved Willow's encouraging words to Poe fans, very sweet and soothing 💙
Yes, spot on! I adore Grady Hendrix and his deep understanding of women, and I was a teenager in the 80s so guilty on the nostalgia front. 😂

I've been reading him since he was an indie author and he is one of two people I always thought would do well. The other is an author named Jeff Menapace, I believe. I enjoy GH humor. A while back Riley Sager made a snarky comment implying GH was stealing from him. While I love every premise of Sager's books, he always fumbled the execution for me, so that comment made it easy to decide I was done with him.
Pet Sematary is and has been my favourite horror book for years. 💜 But Exquisite Corpse is lurking close by in the shadows ... 👀
Ha ha ha, nailed the Grady Hendrix reader, that’s meeeeeeeee 🤣
I DID NOT NEED TO BE CALLED OUT LIKE THAT WITH FRANKENSTEIN 😂😭😂😭😂😭
These are so much fun! Thank you Willow. I am not sure if it is considered horror or just ghotic, but my favorite is "The Yellow Wall-Paper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.

I was thinking of mentioning that one. She did such a great job. By the end I was left with a true feeling of horror.

I suppose it's neither here nor there, but she was a huge racist and eugenicist.
Love reoccuring the "my number is" joke. I haven't read any horror novels yet but I really like Junji Ito 😅
These videos are a lot of fun! I'm glad you are creating a series for them. 😊
a head full of ghosts, and I'm guilty of loving SK even old and cranky 😅 the part about uk politics made me shiver for real btw.
Read for filth by the Alison Rumfitt bit lol

So good I watched it twice! And now have a longer TBR. 😂
This was so fun and entertaining to watch 😆
This series is definitely a new favorite of mine and really brightens up my days 😊
I actually really do love Lovecraft... I like Poe as well.
I love this format sooo much❤
I'm a T. Kingfisher fan, and I still am not quite certain what that means....

It’s a lot of people’s fave and I’ve still not read it 😬
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think my favourite horror novel is "We Sold Our Souls" by Grady Hendrix. I love a book with a good 'revenge-fantasy' plot, and a good fast paced thriller vibe. Not sure what this says about me. lol. I also can see that each of the books you mention probably have a little of Willow reflected in each of them. Great video. :)

Is that the one with someone crawling through a cave? All the Hendrix books blend together for me, but that scene - no spoilers but you know what I'm talking about about - was as intensely claustrophobic and horrifying as Pit and the Pendulum for me. For a contemporary guy horror writer who is at least equal to Hendrix, my pick is "David Wong"'s John Dies at the End series.

That book was fantastic. The thing about horror is, to me, it's okay if things are not okay, but I want people to complete their quest, whatever it should happen to be. And that book is specifically about that. Sometimes life waylays you, and you lose your, well, soul, and forget what you're even FOR. But it's never too late to remember what you're supposed to be doing, right now. To reconnect with who you are.

@@karidru5272 yes, it had that powerful emotional through-line. For me, a lot of the most successful "horror" stories have heart, and make you really care about the characters. Imo it elevates those stories beyond "genre fiction." 💙
Willow, you are both brilliant and very funny! And I am very much looking forward to more installments in this series.
Frankenstein and daddy issues, queer, neurodiverse and feel like a monster, I check all 4! The fact that it's a classic that many love and somehow I fit that, is fascinating. I get it. Still fascinating lol.

I looked up that book on Storygraph, put it on my tbr, then looked up his other books and got big smiles from the titles and covers. So many! 😄
Indeed. Pet sematery is my favorite horror novel. And I like things with no hope. Devilman cry baby is one of my favorite anime.
I legitimately laughed out loud several times! My favorite horror novel is The Great and Secret Show by Clive Barker.

Every now and then I feel as though I have all my ducks in a row. Like I've finally managed to understand all the little twists and turns of life and I can finally see the world for what it is. Then someone says something like "Chuck Tingle wrote Camp Damascus" and I feel my grip on things slipping away again.
The Poe one... 🥺❤🩹
House of Leaves - You read philosophy papers for fun Exquisite Corpse - You can easily name your favorite serial killer
My favorite horror novel is “What Moves the Dead.” Creepy.
Big smiles. Almost belly laughed a couple of times. 💙 And got some new book recommendations.
My favorite is Frankenstein 🖤
Who can resist the NOS4A2 audiobook read by Kate Mulgrew? Not I! I'm not particularly interested in picking one true favorite, but I've read and enjoyed many of the books on the list, and I enjoyed the roast. ♡ Plus, I got a couple new recommendations from this. Sneaky bonus!

@@WillowTalksBooks Did you ever see Throw Momma from the Train? A younger Kate Mulgrew has a brilliant smaller but important role, and the movie is hilarious.
As soon as I saw the Lovecraft cover, before you said anything, I thought, "yes but I spend a lot of effort processing the racism that was directed at my own family who lived nearby him for a time". And then you got me. Also, Shirley Jackson "The Haunting of Hill House" is a solid runner-up and I think she could overtake him in my own estimation -- and in some ways she definitely has.
My favorite so far is the haunting of hill house, but i'm currently reading Our Share of Night thanks to your recommandation!
Giggling away at this 🤣🤣🤣🤣
What about "Exquisite Corpse" and/or "Our Share of Night"?
I'll admit, seeing the title "What your favorite horror novel says about you" immediately put my mind to House of Leaves. Though my favorite is Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer =]
Hilarious! I feel very lucky to belong to TheTwisted Kind;)))))
Once again, all too accurate and funny as fuck, I cannot wait for more of these >:)
Willow, please read something by Stephen Graham Jones and ROAST ME. till then I guess I'd have to be happy with my runner up, being woke and introspective, because Tananarive Due is my second favorite :D Also love Alison Rumfitt and Felker-Martin, but I'm just a chaotic cis bisexual trying to find light within darkness!
I am so here for these!!!!!! Next time I am taking a shot for every time you say Stephen King. Just pure!!
Loved this! nomnonomnom 😂😂
I do love T. Kingfisher (nom nom), but I read The Books of Blood by Clive Barker as a teen in the late 80’s, and they are still my favourite. My set of signed firsts with the wrap-around art covers are my prized possessions.
Great series! My favourite horror book is called “Tanners Dell” by Sarah England. It’s part of a trilogy, all are excellent but this was book 2 and it was just….perfect. Sarah’s an indie author who has an excellent catalogue of books to her name now. I adore reading Indie authors, I’ve met so many online over the past few years and they are so lovely! Just in case anyone is interested the trilogy is as follows. 1) Father of Lies 2) Tanners Dell 3) Magda There’s also a book called The Owlmen which is related to the series but isn’t specifically part of the Trilogy. Another couple of authors I’d recommend are Jim Ody and Angel Van Atta. All excellent reads.
As a Poe fan I am pleased ☺️
Why are my favourites always the ones where you give out your phone number? 🤔

@@WillowTalksBooks You make an irrefutable argument.
I had to dig through my ratings to check that out. Poe and Lovecraft are the highest scoring. But I don't see myself in the descriptions. Mostly because my favourite thing about Lovecraft is how the developers of Arkham Horror troll him with POC and queer protagonist. And on that note: my true love, my fave, my Fear and one of the best pieces of media I've ever consumed across genres and media: The Magnus Archives. Bonus for representation up the wazoo. And no to the homophobic vase, if you know, you know.
When u talked about Frankenstein the way u said: you have daddy issues made me laugh 😂😂. One of my favourite books is IT by Stephen King
OK yeah, if I was asked what my fav horror novel was, I'd have to say Frankenstein (which I as a SF junkie sees as first a gothic novel, then a sci fi and horror novel). And yeah I have daddy issues, I'm queer and I'm auDHD. But also, being a SF junkie, I am admittedly not that well-read in the larger horror genre so I don't have a lot to pick from!
No Thomas Ligotti. Well, we’re used to it. It’s just a microcosm of the malevolent callousness of the whole universe. :)
