of the mitski self-associative trend this one has the descriptions i relate to most- i suppose it's because the majority of the videos tend to focus on the diagnostic aspect (ie. "you feel this way and this is why you feel this way") without leaving much room for nuance, while this one is more ..introspective. as in it feels like a true effort was put in to empathize with the perspective itself rather than just to analyze it- the text reading as the actual thought process of and feelings emanating within one who connects to the song rather than a hypothetical.

to isolate the line "i think you've realized it's a terrible mindset, but you don't care" expresses a lot of what i feel, really- I've lived my own life and while I admire those with the courage to climb their way to freedom, I myself am better off on the ground.

Burning Hill is one of my top three favorites and what it says because currently in my life all my friends are sad, hate themselves, and want to die. I want them to be happy, and I work so hard to make them happy, but it never seems to work, and I try so hard and tell them I want them to be happy and they just don't care. Should I give up? Should I keep trying to make them happy? I just want things to be simple again and I can be like a little kid.

I completely understand where you’re coming from and over the pandemic I decided that if my efforts aren’t being recognized than I should give up and I did. I know is going to sound cringe but sometimes letting is in fact better than holding on. Focus on yourself my dear! Make yourself happy, it’s going to be hard when it first starts but once you get it going you’re going to be unstoppable and thank yourself doing so. I’ve started going out and doing things on my own like eating, ice skating and all that and I’m genuinely enjoy them. And similar to you I miss being a kid so so much so I’ve bought myself plushies and enjoyed my fleeing youth. Take back control of your life and live for you and not others, it’s hard but I believe in you

i love a burning hill for the exact opposite reason. most of my friends are only ever really focused on themselves and im never anyone’s go-to person to hang out with. they’re all far too invested in either themselves or their popular friends. and i give, and i try, and i give and try for them to pay even the slightest attention to me and it just always backfires. it makes me think its all my fault and i cant find any other reasons this is happening to me specifically. im just so tired of it all and i would rather for the year to speed up and end so i can actually focus purely on myself.

The one for A Burning Hill is so accurate. School’s gotten really stressful and I know it’ll only get worse. It’s so hard to focus or do anything. I just wish I could give up and be done with this. I want to be a little kid again and actually enjoy myself.

Pink In the Night is my absolute fav but I'm lucky enough to have those emotions for someone who feels the same, definitely been through it where that wasn't the case though.

So thankful to see your description of Your Best American girl, I think this is the first one out of all of these that's mentioned how this song is about an issue that's very big struggle for alot of poc, the struggle of feeling like I'm not "Asian enough" is something I'm really trying to work through, and I'm getting there, but it's been a long journey and I'm not quite there yet, but I'm trying

I don’t have friends that I can be comfortable and talk to, my family loves me since were family and not necessarily because I’m me. I could give the world to someone. I would pluck every star in the night sky just to make them happy. I would sail to the end of the world if that was what my love wanted. But I have nothing, no one, to love like that. No one who will ever give it back. And this drains me, every singe day I lose pieces of myself. Gonna vent too. I can’t think of anything besides suicide. I really want to die I guess. It’s just that I gave up on everyone because everyone gave up on me. I haven’t woken up without being tired in 5 years… I’m missing waking up with energy. I struggle to leave bed, besides brushing my teeth I just sit all day and cry. I’m worthless to society. I’ve written many suicide notes, but I always end up burning them.

As a queer woman of colour I relate to best American girl so much. I have vivid memories of when I was younger (probably 8-9) and wishing that I could be white. I've always been compared to some sort of ape or feeces most of my childhood and I was known as the 'gay kid', everyone thought i was weird. I've felt alienated my entire life. I fell in love with this skinny pretty white girl but we weren't really meant to be, I felt so judged by everyone because it wasn't considered as 'normal.'

I always need to humiliate myself to be enough and feel enough. I'm so tired of feeling out of place in society and cultures and i don't feel like it'll change. i always need the validation of people to feel like i'm living right. If anyone knew the way my mother raised me they would be so disgusted with her or my other culture would say my mom was so kind to me. I never lived for myself, just for the validation and consolation of other people and i don't feel like i belong to any of my cultures anymore and i'm sorry for venting i just almost never talk abt it.

Last Words Of a Shooting Star hit a lot harder then it should have. I’m not like that anymore but I used to be. I remember wanting to just go cleanly and it not make much a difference to anyone. Now I just like the way the song sounds, going smoothly out, but not in that same way. There’s something so simple yet absolutely beautiful about that song that I just can’t explain.

your best american girl really hit a nerve. i was in a toxic relationship and i impulsively decided to look through his following.. only to find girls who looked nothing like me. white, blue eyed, blonde. as an asian girl with black hair, small dark brown eyes, i started hating myself so much. i tried doing my makeup like them, anything to get close to them and started arguments all the time with him about them. i tried changing my clothes, i put on so much makeup even my brother said it just looked *tacky*. but since we've broken up i've gotten better and learned to better embrace who i naturally am, although i do listen to the song to cope :')

I completely understand, and after my 6 month…”getaway” I feel like some of my analysis are not accurate. I think should’ve offered one in the romantic sense and the other in just a general sense. The reason for that is that I can see I Bet on Losing Dogs as continuously casting your hopes and dreams and being let down when you catch.

My favorite is “I Bet on Losing Dogs” and- it’s pretty accurate. I also love Pink in the Night; and I dedicate the description to my partner and whole world. :) Square desc. Is with my cousin too ^^

Mine is definitely last words of a shooting star. I'm not currently suicidal, but I was for about 4/5 years, and also previously as a young child for a couple of months. At one point I attempted suicide. So suicidal ideation has played a massive part in my development, and although I am very glad to be away from it now, I still remember exactly how it felt. It's something you can never forget. Great video! 🥰
