Hailey I can definitely do a video on grooming guidelines. I can show all the female uniforms since I have to have them however, I will probably have to talk to one of my male counterparts to get the male uniforms.

I do not have a graduate degree but you would be a wonderful nursing instructor. What I do have is 30 years as a full time RN. If you haven't considered it yet, give some serious thought to pursuing your doctorate. You're a natural.

Can I keep my Martial Art Instructor tab as a Navy Nurse? Would I just need to keep recertifying it with an MAIT? I’m an enlisted Marine hoping to become a Navy Nurse

@@AlviAle #1 whatever you have earned in the U.S. Military the entire U.S. Military is connected with respect to things that are in your service record book as official U.S. Military training {i,e,} Ranger school, Airborne school, or S.E.R.E. school including leadership schools like Sgt's course in the Marines or B.N.O.C. in the Army the biggest hurdle you might be facing is that to conduct training as a Martial arts trained Service member the service branch that you are apart of would need to condone that type of training and have measure in place to allow for it, for instance in the M.C.M.A.P. Program it has been planned and thoroughly vetted up to the commandant and there are procedure to deal with injury there are protocols and there is support for the training, as far as the NAVY that may not be something that is supported and so if a Sailor becomes injured during the training you are teaching them you may have to be dealing with some type of level of discipline that falls solely on you unless you have the NAVYS express support from your chain of command and also some peripheral support from the Marine Corps. I would contact the Martial arts center of excellence at Quantico tell them what your trying to accomplish and get some guidance about it.

Please do a navy video on all the uniforms! And when you wear them. I am joining as a navy nurse next year

To prepare physically make sure you can do situps, planks, pushups, and run at least 1.5 miles comfortably. You can look up the fitness requirements for the Physical Readiness Test (PRT) online. I am working on putting together a video about this subject, thanks!

Thanks so much for making these videos, they’re always informative and I love learning about Navy nurse life! I know the working uniforms you just showed we’re all navy, but if you’re attached to a Marine Corps unit, does it change any of the uniforms you wear?

You will wear the Marine Corps digital camouflage uniforms if you are stationed with a Marine Corps unit. The stitching on your uniform however will say "U.S. Navy." You will not wear the Marine dress uniforms though. You will still be required to have all of your Navy dress uniforms and khakis.

I am old school Navy, 81-85. Sad to see the old dungarees and khakis go away. It was a long tradition. The new uniform you are wearing looks like a Marine to me.

I'm a Marine 85-2006 this has been happening more and More where Navy has been duplicating Marine uniforms with the rough desert style boot's the special 8 point cover, and now also the digital utility uniforms I would imagine that the Navy would want to be distinct and different as sailors from all other branches just like Marines are unique and different etc..

Love your videos. Just curious about some of the better (that you consider better) duty stations you have worked and been stationed at. Currently in nursing school and looking at my options if I want to apply!

Matthew Raynor So this is a really hard question for me to answer because each duty station I have been to has pros and cons. I had the most fun with a Marine unit, I learned my core nursing skills at the hospitals I have been to: Walter Reed and Okinawa.

Hi! Unfortunately the Navy does not utilize Neonatal NP’s. Yes, the years you spend in MECP count towards your 20 active duty years.

Sydney Lewis You’re welcome and thank you for watching! I had a smooth transition from enlisted to officer. You have more responsibility as an officer and must set the example for the enlisted personnel. It is also your job to train and mold the enlisted which I feel came naturally for me. It felt different at first when people saluted me, because I was so used to saluting junior officers. As a nurse corps officer specifically, I am in charge of my patients and the corpsmen work under my license, so I feel an increased responsibility to educate the corpsmen regarding diagnoses, procedures, and technical skills such as placing IV’s/blood draws so our patients are well- taken care of.

Sydney Lewis It depends. On a unit like medsurg or ICU, 1-2. If in a Medical Battalion, you may be in charge of the whole unit, like 20?

I want to go into public health nursing. Are there navy nurse positions available in this speciality and if so how many positions and how competitive? Loving the videos!

Yes, there are positions for public health nursing in the Navy. The subspecialty code for this is 1940. There are not many public health nurses in the Navy so yes it is competitive. The DUINS list this year only had 1 seat available for anyone who wanted to go to DUINS for public health nursing.

From 0-1 to 0-3 (Ensign, Lieutenant Junior Grade, Lieutenant) it is simply time in rank. As long as you do not get into any trouble (i.e. Captain's Mast, DUI, not obeying lawful orders, etc.) you will automatically move up in rank. It is 2 years as an 0-1, then 2 years as an 0-2. When you are an 0-3 you have to have at least 3 years in that rank until you can get your first look at 0-4. Your Fitreps, how you perform at work, collaterals, if you have a certification or Masters/Doctorate degree, all play a large factor in getting you promoted. It is the same thing for all ranks above 0-3. You have to show you are a good leader, officer, you do your job well, you are committed to the Navy, and that you have the ability to perform well in the next higher rank. Your electronic service record is looked at by other officers on a board and picked for promotion based on the aforementioned things.

Hello! The only “med tech” position I know is Hospital Corpsman. Yes, the uniforms are different because Corpsmen are enlisted and Nurses are officers. The cammies (Navy Working Uniform) are the same though.

What insignia do you wear on your cover? It doesn't look like a rank insignia. Is it an eagle?

LDS Nurse Yes it is an eagle and an anchor. I wish the rank was still on the cover. It makes it hard to see the rank on the chest when you’re walking outside.

Lindsay Maher From the information I have seen, right now the Navy wants nurses with at least 6 months to a year of experience. However, the best person to ask is a Navy medical officer recruiter. He or she will know more about what the Navy is currently actually accepting and needing.

I am planning on choosing my capstone and potentially 6 months to a year of experience based off of areas of nursing the Navy is in need of; do you have any ideas of resources where I could find that information, or is that also information I can only get from a recruiter?

Yes! There are some really cool opportunities for critical care nurses. They can go on ships, with the Marines, flight nurse training. The actual ICU’s though don’t have as critical of patients as civilian ICUs though.
