All for body armour but did the guy seriously say I don't alwasy carry my gun with me? I get it when you are in places where the criminal tyrants have made it illega but when you go where you can why in the heck would you carry a sheild but not your sword? Odd thinking IMO.

The armor works whether or not you are in a position to use a gun. A gun is useless against a stray bullet or a drive-by.
