Great info. I was not prepared for my taxes to triple when I rented out my house, and it came as a big surprise.

Several hours before I started to look for some information about SC. I am Russian, so I started to explore some channels or Russian bloggers from SC. Sorry to say, they were absolutely useless (except one). They usually talk not about the State but about themselves. Then Your channel was offered by KZread. It occured to be rather interesting and useful. You manage to give maximum data in short videos. And I like Your manner of narration. Thank You for the interesting videos!

I remember when Hugo followed the interstate all the way to North Carolina. My students in Allendale were scared, but I explained that the storm will be slow so they would be home in time. But, I told them to not worry because it was going North to Charleston. I assured them that they would be home in time for their parents to keep them safe, but the storm will not be strong there.

@@jaypercival431 You are correct. I was a teacher for many years, primary level, elementary level, and finally middle school. I taught every student in school as I was the librarian and music teacher. I stay in touch with many former students. This was an awesome job to redirect children in a way that they learn more and develop into an adult that knew how to work and could find jobs. Several are nurses, one is in the NFL, and several I know are truck drivers. As long as they tell me that they are alright I feel better.

Moving to Charleston..June is monsoon season, July-Aug 110 at least with the heat index and anytime until the end of Nov is Tropical Storm / Hurricane Season.

If you’re thinking of moving here and before you do, know that the infrastructure is decades from catching up from the current influx of people. Bumper to bumper everyday,, flood zones are sporadic,, one street may not be but the next over is.

South Carolina is definitely a home owner state vs a renter state..at least when it comes to taxes...

Taxes are still far less than NJ our property taxes in northern nj are 25 k on average for a 2k square foot single family home.

Do not consolidate the vacant lot with the property your house is on, it will increase the mil rate for your current residence. Check into listing the vacant lot as "agricultural" property. You would pay less taxes on the 2 separate parcels vs consolidating them into one. Did this in Lexington Co.

Veterans that are 100 percent, Service-Connected Disability rated, according to VA are exempt from property tax. Could you confirm this? Many veterans are relocating to Fort Jackson and other bases in South Carolina.

Does it flood badly in lake area

If you are thinking of moving to Greenville SC, THINK AGAIN. Overpopulation is daily adding to the stress of our lives as to traffic congestion and commuting delays. The driving population in our area does not obey road signs and traffic lights......resulting in collisions and injuries to persons. One of the most dangerous habits I see every day is that drivers RUN red lights all over the area. As a life-saving practice, I NEVER EVER immediately proceed when I get a green light......I wait a few seconds to avoid being hit or worse. I have saved my life many times using this practice. Another serious problem for homeowners is this.....we have many home owners who rent out their property resulting in tenants who 1) do not keep the property up to surrounding standards 2) prove to be disruptive due to having noisy social events......negative tenants can materially reduce the value of homes in the surrounding area. This type of impairment is something that cannot be predicted in advance of acquiring a home. Another major problem has to do with enforcement of City/county codes by law enforcement officers. They simply will not enforce codes if a problem arises. I think this problem springs from the view that the south is "laid back" and if there is a problem, it must be "your" problem and hence is ignored. An example: you have an owner/renter who is keeping loud outside noise going for hours at night which is disturbing all homes in the area. Rarely will law enforcement correct this situation. The list goes on, but I think you get the general idea of the area. The only way to avoid the above "home" problems is literally to live in a gated community......if you can afford the price tags associated with such properties.

I worked in the Greenville area back in 1994 and again in 2017/18. Obviously you can’t guarantee the weather but Greenville is in the North West of the state and not on the coast so hurricanes shouldn’t be an issue. There are a ton of companies in the area mostly to support BMW and the area has boomed since I was there in 94, I’m sure the education system has improved to match (there must be figures on line that show the graduation rate?). As far as mask mandates - again probably info on line. I’ve lived in MI for 28 years and am moving to Bluffton SC in the next 2-3 weeks, can’t wait 😁😁

Bought a new 36K Honda in Beaufort county last year, first year taxes were $450. Not sure if it is the drivers that are so bad but SC has the worst roads of any states I've ever lived in, I think that has a lot to do with the accidents.

Personal property taxes will go down each year as the vehicle depreciates in value, you also pay taxes on other property like boats, RVs, etc. Excessive mileage is only considered if the car is driven a percentage over the national average to be considered "high mileage" but be aware your insurance rates may go up with excessive mileage also. Until the vehicle is over 15 years old, then there is a fixed rate. I think my last bill for a vehicle over 15 y/o was around $14.

What are we holding own for?

Charleston is so overpopulated you cannot get anywhere. Traffic has become almost unbearable. One accident in West Ashley blocks traffic on three separate main artery roads Hwy 61, Hwy 17 and Glenn McConnell Pkwy. They are overbuilding and what's called "fill and build" which means they are filling in the swamp lands, which was a natural barrier against flooding, and building huge Cookie Cutter housing developments. They all look the same, and over the years, you may see your home settle because of the land on which it was developed. This is also causing more flooding events West Ashley, also known as the Church Creek Basin, which the City is doing nothing about, except for having a study done. Sales tax is another issue, which includes a hospitality tax you have to pay at restaurants, hotels, etc. The City almost increased property tax mileage rates last year after the County had just imposed its reassessment increase. I expect that will happen in the next year or two. There are a huge amount of people that work in Charleston but live in Summerville or other cities just North of Charleston, which makes I-26 a parking lot every morning, and almost daily there's an accident which makes it worse. Charleston has a reactive infrastructure rather than proactive. They build roads for today's traffic, not what it is going to be 10 years from now, so it's obsolete by the time they finish it. Oh, I almost forgot, if you live West Ashley and are commuting to work downtown, you can expect huge transit times to and from work, every day. Those are the facts of living here, but by far not all of them.

@@TheBillOlson Can't remember the specific year it started, but AARP listed Charleston as one of the top ten places to retire, for multiple years in a row. Since then, people who had already retired to Florida and other states flocked to Charleston. I hate to be so negative, but I thought people should know the truth about what is going on in Charleston. At one point I remember the news stating there was approximately 75 people per day moving into Charleston.

No tax on ss benefits, cheap gas,...ability to enjoy "four- wheeling inland, etc BTW, can you or anyone suggest the best place to live in S.C to enjoy "four-wheeling fun?"

It looks to me like South Carolina is designed for retiring middle and upper middle class people whose major source of income is Social Security and retirement income. On the other hand , if you have a large source of taxable income (like interest) then Florida is the place to go. Florida likes rich people. I know if I won the lottery, I would move to Florida in 30 days. Even with high property taxes, the lack of a personal state income tax makes an enormous difference.. As for Georgia, go figure, I think Georgians (I'm a native) are blind to anything beyond 50 miles from the center of Atlanta. Look at sky high real estate prices in Fernandina Beach, Fl which is on the Florida side of the state line (not that Fernandina isn't a quaint little community). Hilton Head? Well, it's no Palm Beach, but it is a bit of an anomaly. (my opinions)

How is racism in SC? What nice suburban cities would you recommend? I like to live in a diverse area. So far I like Lexington and Indian land area so far from research.

I moved from NC to SC last December. I regret it. NC is so much better in so many ways. I find SC incredibly frustrating. Also noting, I am not native to NC either so there’s no bias there.

I feel like an outsider watching this video would be extremely confused. We moved with our 5 kids from NC to SC due to the fact that we were able to get a 6 bedroom house with a 2 bedroom guest house out back for under 130k That was literally the only plus of living here. Other than that I have found everything about this state frightening or frustrating.

@@daledavis6984 It is a small, economically challenged state where the 'good old boy' network is still very prevalent. Very conservative (they just passed a fetal heartbeat abortion ban bill). Oh, and FRIED FOOD. (Fired everything.) Consistently ranked at the bottom of the list for anything that matters (to me); life expectancy, medical care, education. No statewide COVID mask mandate, or effective vaccination plan. Etc... On the plus side, and relevant to this video, I just learned that SC is on the list of states with the lowest real estate taxes and is 12th in homeownership.
