Excellent narrative on the vehicle, I believe you fairly share the pros and cons. I've been riding motorcycles since 1979, taking my licence through the Canada Safety Council Safety program.Ive ridden HD, SUZUKI, and a Honda 750 Supersport with upper and lowers and hard cases for touring. But I started at 16 and I'm no 60 with lots of my personal body parts needing replacement, but they're no longer under warranty. Looking forward to picking up my first Spyder here in Canada, where our season isn't quite as long as in the U.S.

Coach Bob... I went out today and put my deposit on a 2022 F3 Special Series today. It's been 16 years since I've been on a bike. With your videos and after taken the 3 wheel course helped me get back on the open road again. Thank you for your insight and knowledge!

Your videos made me decide to buy a 2021 Cam Am Spyder RT Limited. I’ve been riding motorcycle since the age of 15. I owned Hondas up until 22 years ago when I bought my first BMW, a K1200LT. Bought a second one in 2010. In 2013 I purchased the K1600GTL. A bike, that to this day, I still love. The in-line 6 on that bike is incredible. But, this year I had come to the conclusion that I was probably going to sell the bike and stop riding. My right knee is shot, I’ve been fighting two different cancers, one for over 14 years, the other for over 10 years, been through chemo, plus a stem cell transplant, only to have one come back. Both are related to Agent Orange exposure when I was in Vietnam with the Marines. The K16 at 775 lbs was just too much, particularly with a passenger and gear for a trip. But, after watching you video’s, discussing it with my wife, who was all on board, I took the plunge. I agree with you about BRP. Definitely not a user friendly application. I’m still using it because I have satellite radio and navigation on my cell phone, and over time, by trial and error (mostly error), I’ve been able to make it work, most of the time. I’ll probably go back to Garmin, had it on all my BMWs, and found it pretty much bomb proof. If you’ve been riding for a while, the learning curve is pretty quick. I decided to have a custom seat put on it by Corbin. Have had them on all of my bikes for years, and my butt seems to fit them well. The nice thing with the RT is, no matter how much I’ve loaded the bike up, low speed handling is simple with 3 wheels. LOL If anyone is thinking of buying an RT, I would highly recommend it, even if you don’t have a bum knee. Enjoy the videos. Thanks for posting them.

Recent injuries limit me to something low with automatic transmission. Can Am appears to be more physically accessible than a T-Rex or a Slingshot.

I had a Goldwing 2018 Tour that I traded in for the 2023 CamAm RT limited. I had a fall last year with a concussion last November and I lost my availability to keep balance on my bike. I'm 62 years old and will continue to ride.

100% agree with everything you've said, the pros and cons. The only additional con I would mention is BRP not listening to their customer base. Most things are minor design issues yet they don't address them. Overall, the pros far outweigh the cons.

Thought about trying a Spyder for several years. Finally bought a practically new '15 in '19 to see whether I would like them. When the '20s were released, I researched them and decided the improvements were worth the leap. Night and day difference. I absolutely love it. This spring I sold my Goldwing, even though I knew I'd miss it, it seemed that when I went for a ride, I jumped on the Spyder. Couldn't see having a bike I didn't ride. And it went to a good home. I agree with everything you say about the Spyder. And don't worry about the "clunk", I've owned four Harleys in my younger days, and the Spyder is no worse than they were, and the trans never failed on them.

Another great video Coach. I continue to value your perspective because of your honest assessments. I purchased a 2021 RT Limited in April after watching most of your videos. The result has been that I have had very few surprises. I have 7,100 miles on mine and am heading out Monday on a 4 day 1000 mile trip through northern MN and WI. Over the course of the riding season I had a couple of very hard stops because of deer in the road. The results were that I picked up a vibration when I was breaking at 50 MPH and above. I replaced the front brake pads and rotors this week. It's as good as new. Thanks again for being a trusted resource to us all.

Good commentary as usual. Always love your perspective and insight. I’ve grown accustomed to the clunk and the mechanical side of my brain tells me it’s not as bad as some fear. Appreciate you. Edit: BRP is great when it works. That’s the problem is it’s inconsistent in working properly. It’s kinda like Forrest Gump and a box of chocolates, you never what you are going to get.

Forget the trolls, they only aggravate you when your performing a service, go figure. The BRP arm rests, I had to get them, give Millie lots of peace of mind back there. Be advised, the 2020 and later have the swing out, and man is it tight. I don't think there's any way Coach Vic will fit onto that pillion if you ever think about a new RT purchase. Maybe BRP will take note, the arm rest for the 'newer' Spyder can be designed to swing wide for a much better mount for the passenger. Bob, that will be show stopper for you in a new purchase. The show chrome after market will work, but they are flimsy.

I agree with your comments 100%. I have a 2020 F3 Limited and it has been great. My dealer is nearly 70 miles away. There was one about 35 miles from me, but they quit selling and servicing Spyders. Dealeer I use now is excellent. BRP Connect is flakey, at best. That being said I use the Bluetooth connection to to my Sena and phone and I am happy with the way it works. Pair the helmet and phone to the bike and it just works. IMHO if BRP had only done the Bluetooth, and put a weatherproof USB port in the dash or near the handlebars, to power the phone they may have had less problems and complaints. Genius maps works fine this way for me. Really like you channel!

Wow if I had shut my eyes and just listened I may have thought you were talking about a Harley. 10k miles on my tires, still lots of tread left but, so cupped they sound like a tractor. If I change the oil myself and change all three holes, it’s over $100 for the Harley oil and filter. If the dealer changes all three it’s $360. If I connect my phone to the radio it would switch back and forth between my Sena and the radio so, don’t even use the radio now, just connect the phone to the Sena and enjoy. Don’t even get me started on the Harley navigation, it put me down a narrow rock covered goat path recently so back to using my phone. For some reason though, I still really like the bike but still considering the F3 limited. The local can am dealer is going to let me take one for a day to get a better idea if it’s for me! Great video coach I like your honesty about the Spyder. Enjoy!

Agree with you! BRP needs to listen to thier customers or they are going to lose them. The BRP/CanAm repair network needs a lot of work. If BRP wishes to continue growing in the U.S. then they need to concentrate on building up the repair networ and just the dealer side.

The noises can be a bit unnerving but mine has never failed me yet! I agree it’s a great machine. Would I do it all over again? Absolutely. Will I buy another one in the future? Probably. You know you are partially to blame for me buying this 3-wheel monstrosity in the first place! So thank you Coach. My wife and I liked the F3-L better than the RT from a seating position over the 19 RT but I understand the 20 and up sits lower. If we toured more I would maybe trade ours for an RT simply due to the storage capacity. Great review Coach.

Not sure who has treated you wrong, coach but maybe you entertain the idea of simply blocking that person(s). Hate and negativity have no room on a fun ride like a Spyder IMHO. I appreciate this video as all of your content. Very fair and balanced with the emphasis on your own experience. I like the Spyder because my wife likes hers and that is so important was we now can share the joy of riding together. Couple of mods are needed but honestly, if I compare those to what I did to my Road King to make it mine, those were peanuts. Sleeves for the grips to raise the diameter, phone mount, HID lights throughout the front and liners for each hole to get stuff better organized when road tripping lol Maintenance wise I had to get the front wheels balanced - twice as the weights keep falling off and get a new battery. Doing an oil change soon, got the kit from BRP. Other than that, it has been a fun ride so far. I would probably look into raising the handlebars some if I rode it more being 6'2" but as it is my wife's bike, and she is the primary rider, it needs to fit her perfectly which it does. I'm trying to convince her to get the highway pegs but she is not buying, yet lol Stay and ride safe, sir and keep the positive momentum going. Your channel, your rules. 😉🤟💯

Hello coach. I think one of the reasons a lot of dealers won't work on the spyder is the plastic body panels with those fragile plastic push pins. I think they loose money on replacing what they brake. Apart from that it should be the same as any other machine.

CoachBob3 thank you for giving me the motivation to give my 2021 Spyder F3 Std one more try...I purchased in June 2021 paid premium price and was enjoying the heck out of it for 1034 miles and then the fun stopped. End of July started getting VSS Fault and would reset and then it wouldn't. August 25th it went into limp mode and there it stayed, Got it to dealer and is still there as of October 7 and will be until the Vehicle Control Module comes in around October 22. Everyone has been nice, even BRP cares, but I won't lie I have been surfing the internet looking at 2 wheelers again. Then I watched this video..thanks for your calm and truthful information. Ha..! I had a really long write-up that just vanished on me last night. My loss, your gain. Bottom line is, I can't contradict you on any of your points. BRP armrests? Yes, Yes, Yes. I ride two up all the time and have had my wife asleep behind me, (backrest, of course) secure knowing she can't fall off. BRP Connect? No, No, No. Even if it did work, I'm too old to see that silly little picture, much less navigate by it. I have an excellent center mount for a 5" TomTom that works great, talks to me, and costs $150 to replace if necessary. I shop the same companies you do for add-ons, oh, and the Baja Ron swaybar is an absolute necessity. And the clunk... Three years and 42k miles, it still grates on me, but release the parking brake first and "feather" the brake and it seems to be a little easier to manage. Great job, Coach, keep up the good work!

I will gladly tell you that I have enjoyed the BRP Connect (now BRP Go) since I got it with the 2018 RT in Jan 2018. Yes there have been some learning hiccups but I made a point to learn it and it has become easier and easier. Now with BRP Go, it’s a snap. There is no reason in the world to need to have access a smartphone while operating any vehicle let alone a motorcycle. I laugh when I see your Garmin AND phone mounted with the Cuff because of the $$$$ you spent. I have Sygic, Genius Maps, Rever (can new be used for navigation), as well as TomTom that I’ve had for years. All of which I spent just over $200. Talking about tires, motorcycle tires are stickier because of the lighter weight of motorcycles and therefore wear out faster. Spyders are a one-of-a-kind vehicle and as yet there is not a lot of aftermarket tires for it yet. So, yes I will not run anything other than the OEM Kenda or the Kenda Kanines.

Hi Coach, I rarely leave comments on KZread but your videos are awesome and you spoke honestly today as usual. I have watched almost all your videos and I decided to purchase a 2021 can am spyder rt base on Thursday after watching your videos. I have never ridden a motorcycle, only cars but watching your videos gave me alot of confidence. I hit the shoei helmet your recommended and other gear too. I think I'm ready for my first ride. But I have a quick question or concern if anyone knows the answer : my 2021 can am spyder rt has only 1.7 miles on it and when I start it and the engine is running, I can perceive a smell that I can only describe as something burning like a burning tire smell, is that normal? Also the dashboard area was hot today when I was warming it up, not sure if the engine is right below that area or if I should be considered? Thanks for your videos and you guiding us newbies out here. Much love to you and your family.

I’m sure Coach won’t mind me answering. There is a new engine smell, that’s somewhat normal. It should burn off by ten miles or so. Just go fast enough and you won’t notice it. You will get hot air coming up through the handlebars The glove box also will permeate some hot air. Pull the glove box out and you’ll see space under it designed to cool as the bike is moving. It will percolate up under the gauge set but as long as the engine temp isn’t to warm it’s built to withstand periods of non-moving time. Be advise that the fans actually blow forward to keep heat off the rider and they rarely come on at any speed. Welcome to the Spyder world and what color did you get?

@@DFWMoose I really appreciate you taking the time to reply and send forth all this knowledge to a learner like me. At least I can worry less now. I went on my first short 12 miles ride around the neighborhood yesterday. I must say for being a first timer, I did okay but it was hard to adjust to the heavy motorcycle gear from the helmet to jacket, motorcycle pants and boots. It was all so heavy on me. I started sweating. Lol. I also need to learn how to roll the throttle when slowing down or stopping. It's almost as though, I just release the throttle and and let it return to its original position when I need to stop whcih I'm not sure of that is good. I have a white and black 2021 can am spyder rt.

@@deehotstepper my pleasure. Coach is busy with coaching otherwise he would have responded and he probably still will. Where about are you located? Check with your dealership for some groups, not necessarily to ride with until you are comfortable but to also get tips on gear. There are cooling vests etc that I’m sure you can get some advice from the locals. Hopefully you took the course in your area that Can Am offers, that will help you with the skills. If you are in the DFW area we could connect if you are inclined. I’ve had mine since May.

If you have min, coach if you could pick a year or milage rrange for used, should the year or milage be most important and why? Going to retire the sport bike and I am seriously considering the spyder. Now all I ever bought before has been new, however found some used that are appealing. Also with used any stay aways before purchasing? Thanks for your time

It’s funny you should ask that question. I ran an experiment yesterday on my way to Daytona. I went 204.9 miles on a tank of gas. I believe my mileage was 34 miles to the gallon. I will show this in next Saturday’s video. I don’t think that I could’ve gone any further. In fact, I was sweating making it to the gas station. As far as used. I would stick to 2014 models and later. That is when CanAm started using the 1330 Rotax. Prior to that they had a twin cylinder that ran pretty warm. Good luck on your quest. Let me know what you end up doing.

Im having that problem getting mine serviced. Ill have to take it to another state to get my recall done. Im afraid to go that far on the factory sway bar. Ive got the baja ron sway bar that i may have to tackle myself. Anyone know the amount of torque you tighten things back to? Ihave a cam am dealership about 50 miles away but refuse to touch my bike. Side by sides and atvs only.

I would check with Baja Ron... they should have some torque specs for ya. The job is involved and you'll need patience. But, I would not hesitate to do it. Just take it nice and slow ...and make sure you're safe when you jack it up to do the job. I certainly agree that OnRoad dealer network is a real problem. I have also experienced your frustration. 👍👍👍

at over 200k I will concur a three wheel SportTrike is leagues ahead of any two wheeler for travel and general chasing around. Built in GPS units suck. I have a 2008 GL1800 with navigation, I never use it as it sucks. Google maps is great and integrates with my sena headset so the lady tells me where to go and that I am now lost.
