My goal was consistency. And I make it smaller. I stick to a schedule, and the challenge was 30 push up per day and no nut november. Man, all I can say is I feel like I'm in charge, and consistency is what I already possess. I have no failures or challenges because I feel excited every day. It feels happy to have control on your life.

Andrew Huberman says that associating the act and motivation with a reward makes the act itself less desirable and harder to do again, which kind of contradicts the last part where JP suggests that you can negotiate and give yourself rewards to do the things you need to do. It is interesting. Maybe JP sees it as a worthwhile compromise for people who can't do any of what they need to do and are in a bad place.

Good point, thought about that. I agree with you. I think it is about smoothing out the immense energy it takes to delay instant pleasure/gratification to achieve your defined goal in the mid-term (3-5y). Thus, you condition yourself to get pleasure from coming one step closer to your goals. If these loops (actions->reward->progress) continue the process slowly becomes the reward. I think nothing else is actionable for anyone who is starting to think about their future. What does Andrew Huberman suggest to build the amount of discipline and motivation?

i like JP....but he gets carried away talking at 100 miles an hour and he sounds a little like his brain is on fire around the edges.......he could communicate all this information in a calm voice without pacing from one end of the stage to the other and flinging his arms around, and he could make bullet point notes on the blackboard for emphasis and to keep his own mind on the topic at hand.......but psychologists are allowed to be scattershot and disconnected and totally spontaneous in their chain of thoughts and flight of ideas....exactly 180 degrees opposite to mathematicians explaining calculus or organic chemists explaining reaction pathways and dynamics
