Another great guide. You don't need masses of expensive gear to go out and get the gigs! 🥳 Just the basics and the enthusiasm.

Great point Nick.
These videos are excellent. I find it interesting that no one mentions things like public liability insurance or risk assessments. These topics have to be considered if you want to do solo gigs.

Actually that’s a great point that we should have mentioned. In the UK the musicians union can help with this too.
Had a gig for 10 months where I played jazz standards. I used a beta 57 and very small pa no tracks, no effects. A good work out to keep people interested for two hrs. Play melody, show harmony, have good time.

That’s a tough gig. What a great learning opportunity though!

@@McGillMusicSaxSchool Exactly, that's why I took it. I'm sure it helped all aspects of my playing. With all that's available on the web , I only recommend 5 channels to my students. You are definitely one of them Nigel.
Nigel you never fail to impress with videos fantastic information Keep up the good work🤠🤠😊😊

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed this one and hope it helped you.
I’ve had similar set ups and have always had problems with feedback. I’m wondering if you could address that. Perhaps with the VE20 in the chain it helps prevent feedback? Thanks. Great profile of an ultra-simple setup.
0:00 that Boss Vocal Processor is amazing. I use it on my set up. Do you have a good recommendation for a good envelope filter for saxophone?

I've not used the boss but I can relay what I've been trying in my amplified band. I've been using a TWA Wah Rocker pedal, followed by a Keeley CC-2 Limiting Amplifier (trying to control volume spikes), followed by a boss ge-7 equalizer (to push the lows back a little), all in a little switchable side loop off my reverb, and delay pedals (both TC Elec.), and doubler (TC Helicon D1) on my tenor sax peddle board. I still don't feel comfortable using the autowah in a loud busy amplified performance, even for a solo. It just seems really hard to dial in the volume of the auto-wah effect and it usually fails to cut through in the monitor because I'm too careful about it after it spiking a few times. So I only use this in softer solos rarely, but my problems may not be others' problems as we play louder funk, rock, RnB, soul, etc. BTW, the TC Helicon D1 includes a 3-prong microphone preamp so you can use a regular mike stand too direct into the peddle board, but I usually use a shure glx-d4 wireless setup into it (which is great). Even the clip-on bell mike you get is pretty good IMO. In this setup I send the output of the peddle board using a Radial DI to the board and parallel to my little personal monitor on a stand: behringer eurolive b502d so I don't have to depend on bad sound men everywhere ;) EDIT: I've been trying to get this to work easily in live performance for years, so I'm interested in what people are using too.

Actually the VE-20 does have some effects (reverb / chorus / delay etc)

it has a lot of effects including the ones you mentioned, then every channel can be copied and edited to your liking (within reason, of course)

@@wolfgangvoigt6848 thx for the info greatly appreciated Wolfgang!!
Very interesting. I use a VE 20 Vocaliser and it has really given me a great sounds. It is best to use a remote mic attached to the sax but positioning is very important. I use Enact fire blue tooth speakers for small areas and larger ones Tapco thumps on stands. For backing tracks I have many I have downloaded from the net and there are many with the score that one can play too. I have an adapter from Ebay I screw onto a photo stand then put the iPad on the adapter. This might sound strange but I practice in a forest due to not be annoying my fellow neighbours as I live in an apartment in the UK. I have played in Europe and the UK. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZKKG1Zihkba0c84.html
