What you are probably getting WRONG about your little finger
Музыка
Do you struggle to move your little finger quickly or do you have pain from using it. This video may give you an answer to why this is happening. I have seen this common misconception about the role of the right hand-hand baby finger in so many players. By solving this problem you can develop a more free and easy playing technique, reduce pain and finally get that D to Eb trill down! Happy practicing!

I had not played flute for almost 30 years and only recently have taken it up again. In the first couple of weeks I noticed that my right little finger felt stressed at times. As far as I can tell, the cause are fingerings where all fingers of the left hand are off, such as C5# and C6#. For the flute to stay in place when I play these notes, I have to put some pressure on the little finger. I think the trick is to use only as much pressure as needed. After a while now and playing more relaxed in general, I don't notice any particular stress anymore.
My picky hurts because I use my baby finger because so many fingerings require you to rest your finger on that key. When I play the high C#, the right pinky and thumb is the only thing holding the flute. That's a lot resting on two fingers.

I think the flute is just designed for someone with small hands, short fingers 😶
Thank youuu so much! Great and valuable information as usual ♥️
I have hypermobile joints and also a lot of pain and dislocations. When I play flute I can’t stop my fingers from hyperextending, aka too straight I can’t keep them bent they just hyperextend. And my pinky also locks. I had to stop playing. Now I play harp! Because you don’t use your pinky and you play on the sides of your fingers and not the pads. I love it!

Ouch! That’s sounds painful. I’m so glad you found an instrument that can help you express your creativity and not hurt your body! So important. There are some devices to help stabilize joints, but how successful they are is a good question 🤷🏻♀️

I really struggle with this problem do u have any tips pls I’m doing my grade six and I’m really struggling
This is so helpful. My pinky has been killing me and I know I’m locking it out. My flutes key is pretty stiff (student flute) and I’m in the process of picking an intermediate all silver flute and wow…that key hardly needs to be pushed down on the flute I’ve tried. Going to work on my hand positioning…thank you!
Yes I experienced pain in little finge

Does it happen when you play C and C#? 😓 For me happens because that finger locks out by itself.
I have the occasional problem of slightly touching the E flat key when playing low C or low B purely because I have small hands and even though my right hand is in a natural 90 degree position to the flute I have to move the hand very slightly to the right to make sure I cover the low C and B keys adequately without fouling the E flat key.
I have more problems with pain in my right thumb instead of my pinky. My other fingers are fine but after a while of playing, my thumb hurts.

I had pain in my right thumb too, which after a while made me have cramps in the whole hand, a problem that I was able to solve with a thumport! I got the solexa Thumbport II, it's very small and I don't even have to take it off the flute when I put it in the case.
Love that 'Cuddle Me' picture -- it's the only time we can see you with your glasses. You should only need more pressure on those keys that CLOSE a hole, not open it. As you said you can't make it more open than a slight light tap does.

My flute might suck, but I definitely have to press the E flat key hard to get it to close.
Kind of off topic from the video but my band director wants me to play piccolo for a new piece we are playing but I’ve never played piccolo in my life. Any tips on the difference in embouchure or tone?? I need all the tips I can get!
that's my problem :( I extend my pinky and then gets painful
I would like to have some tips for starting a flute channel
I'm playing a new piece that has a lot of flats. And I don't have anyone who can help me with flute technique. There's only 26lutes including myself in our section. I'm dealing with this problem with the pinky, and I can only play for 30 minutes or less.
I may be an older beginner (age 41), but I'm not going to let that pinky problem get the best of me!
Lol only two comments?
my pinky hurts after a few hours ),:
