I personally love portuguese wines. Once a portuguese farmer went to Paris to a wine tasting , and there were lots of itallian,french... wines , and that man brought with him his one portuguese wine that he made at his farm. The wine tasters , when they tasted it they tought that it was a magnificiant itallian or french wine, but it wasn't. It was Portuguese. Now more then ever Portugal is rising. And like the lady sayed Port wine is originally made in Portugal, but ppl don't associat itto Pt

8 years on and it's still hard to find Portuguese wines in London's wine shops (aside from Ports, of course). I love Portuguese wines and would love to have more varieties up here, particularly Dão. Meu amor pelo vinho português começou no Brasil onde eu morava e encontrava muito mais variedade!

For more than 600 years the Portuguese sell wine all around the world, good wine may I say. About the Italian and French wines, it's the consumer who should be demanding. If they are satisfied with that product, let them be.

Not true what the last guy said. Portugal has about 250 grapes, Italy 200, France and Spain about 100

I think these critics fail to understand that our wine is mostly made for our own consumption. There doesnt seem to be much care about what is being done outside because there isnt. We make our own wine, and if others like it, they can buy it.

Portugal has a rich history and has remained true to it's indigenous grape varieties. But Jancis Robinson made an excellent point-it's what in the glass that will grab the wine drinkers attention and so it shall...(Quinta Bon Ventos for eva!!)

The art of bullshitting... and what did we learn other than that Portugal has more grape varieties than Spain? I opened the Wine Bible, and Portugal has seven major wine regions including Madeira (an island). Vinho verde (major grapes: alvarinho, trajadura, loureiro) also comes in “tinta,” i.e. red (major varieties: amaral/azal tinto + vinhão/sousão). Magenta go be specific! And if you think some red Burgundies need increased French oak treatment and/or, even better extended lees contact to soften nervous cranberry acidity into a pleasant Bing cherry acidity, vinho verda tinta is not your glass of wine!

the problem with portuguese wines is of course the isolation and the fact the ppl who are charge in wine making and companys do a terrible job in preseting wines of portugal so that italian wines and other wines who are crap basicly are sold for much more money and much more admired then portuguese witch almost nobody knows, the birts who own port wine also did a teririble job they could easily have presented and step up presence o fport wine in the uk and usa
