I think that with declining birth rates and contraception there will be a lot of changes : selection for women who want to have children, selection for women who have it easier giving birth, selection for babies to be born with smaller heads so that birthing is easier, and more twins will be born. Other than that, less need for sugar, more passive muscle generatjon, better adaption to sitting down - I'd expect those to happen.

It's difficult to predict, but I assume if things stay the course we won't be that much different on the surface than we are today, because rather than changes through our genes we are at the technological level that we will just change our environment, both externally and internally, to suit our needs. I can see some changes when it comes to food consumption, perhaps becoming more efficient at extracting nutrients and calories; however, that probably won't affect how we look. Given that much of our appearances is connected to hunter-gathering society, and given that most humans no longer engage in that, I can't imagine what ecological pressure that might emerge assuming a continual steady progression. Of course the history of life on Earth is full of sudden catastrophic ecological changes no one could have predicated, so there's always that to consider. The biggest pressure comes down to survival and mate choice, and because for most of us there is a real disconnect between the two, as we are less and less an agrarian society, it's difficult to see individual women (the ultimate drivers of what genes and their traits make it into the next generation) making the kind of mate selection choices that drive physical changes. That being said, other more behavioral traits might come to the forefront now, example, now given that we don't have to hunt for food or protect the food as individuals, perhaps other traits or characteristics will be seen as more valuable. Perhaps women will choose mates that are more compassionate or more willing to help out around the choice. I can see us tinkering around with some internal stuff, such as our microbiome or genes; however, that wouldn't be evolution via natural selection but rather artificial selection, and most likely optional or restricted to very few people.

I believe if this continues will eventually start naturally losing hearing at a younger age. Also screen time does effect eyesight as well. And with youth constantly in their phones and laptops over time I feel that will inherently affect our future generations eyesight. May take 100s of years but I think there will be a correlation.

I'm considering doing a research project on viewing natural selection through the lens of civilization. I'm thinking that since this cycle of civilization is fairly recent (10,000 years or so) that there's a conflict between our nature and our environment because we have not yet evolved to civilization. Over time, unless our natures prevail, we'll become more civilized (i.e., more adapted to civilization and more capable of fulfilling the social contract). But since we're not that genetically different than early humans, we haven't reached that stage of human evolution yet. Let me know what you think.

Genetic engineering, increases in consciousness with science as our aid to actually train us. Evolution has hit a point where we're adapting ourselves to our ideals rather than randomness eventually adapting to environment. Science in psychology and philosophical truths will eventually be defined (I imagine not in a simple way) and this with all the technology and more organised information will be more and more implemented exponentially in better and more diverse ways.

Yo honestly at this point, with the advancement of computers, were probably gonna be able to perfectly simulate almost anything. We could probably in the future find a way to keep the human genome more and more normal, and optimized. Like if you really wanted, in the future you could probably get your sperm sent in to get upgraded by people to a certain model, and then have it develop to a human. Like it seems to be the best option for evolution. Not only do you have that, but with the free market, having genome optimization probably isnt even a bad thing. Your gonna have all sorts of designs coming out from all sorts of companies, and your gonna also have Open source designs people might chose. With proper regulation in the next 200 years it might not even be a massive deal. Its gonna be stupid to try to program a human to be loyal to a certain party. No one wants some ultra nationalistic kid. People are gonna want successful and supportive kids, so theres not gonna be any bias in the market imo. Ethics aside, the theory of evolution doesnt even apply to us. We can litterally steer our species whichever direction we want.

It's interesting to step back and consider what was once needed for survival pre-medicine/technology (ex. immune system, physical strength, agility, etc.) versus what gives one the best chances to reproduce/survive today. Imagine, for instance, that some deadly pandemic kills most of us, or climate change, nuclear war, etc. Then the surviving gene pool would likely be made up of only people who are resistant or immune. It's happened many times in our past and likely will in the future.

does anyone think we're kind of unlucky. This is one of the first times ive realized that im at the pinnacle of exponential human technological improvement, but I will probably not live long enough to see the best of it. We think about the next 100 years, but what about 10,000. Humans are sure to be around for a ridiculus amount of time- but I feel as if we are still very primal at this point. I don't know why but I've always assumed I was going to be one of the last generations. Healthcare and medicine are sure to grow to a point of no disease, lifespans could reach thousands of years through our improved use of computers which I will likely never experience- and humans could potentially live for millions of years after me. But maybe a singularity is on the horizon which will mark all future growth needless. If anyone is reading this comment, the year is 2022. I don't know where my life is going, but this comment is sure to last a lot longer than my human lifespan. The internet is potentially going to be around for an absurd amount of time and my imprint will likely outlive me thousands of times over. I am just a lowely human from the wrong era. weep for me.

In a million years? We'll be long gone. Either through extinction, or, we'll have evolved into something else. But we won't be humans. Even if environmental pressure isn't there anymore, technology will have played a part in transforming us into something very different, superior, to the fragile form we take today.

5:20 surely for evolution to do its job there, humans will have to be allowed to die because it's a bit cold, leading those with better mutations to deal with the cold better to survive and pass on those traits while those without are killed off. I'm hoping a colony capable of travelling to other planets will have the technology to... you know, keep warm..

Compared to previous updates of primitive humans, we will most likely unfortunately lose our hair, due to us making synthetic heating and cooling solutions for our bodies like clothes and hvac. We also don't need to be strong due to us making firearms. Skulls may become more rounded and larger, for an efficient brain. Our bodies may lose a few bones for more space due to obesity if it gets worse.

Xiefux well with the rate at which our technology is going we very well could in 1 million years. Just a couple 100 years ago it was deemed impossible to believe we would go into space or send probes to mars or Saturn. If our technology never changed or we blew ourselves to bits you would be right but at the rate technology is going even in 1000 years what we deem impossible today maybe possible then. Given enough time anything is possible.
