What we LOVE & HATE about our Lance RV

We purchased our 2020 Lance 1985 last June from Princess Craft RV in Round Rock, Texas and have already spent over 60 nights in it with over 10,000 miles of travel. In this video, we share 6 things we love about it and 6 things we hate....well hate might be a bit strong......but strongly dislike about it. Overall we love the Lance 1985 but like with any RV, there are things that we would change if we could.

I think the first mod I would do is either drill a hole right above the coffee maker in the cabinet and run the cord up to the microwave plug or tap into the microwave plug and add a downward facing outlet to the cabinet right above the coffee maker.

Great video. We have a 2020 Lance 2445 and traveled 16k miles last year. One thing that is really nice is how good the Lance trailers handle all these miles and still look like new. The outside surface looks cool and is easy to clean. We also like that Lance fits all their travel trailers with high end brakes, tires and suspensions. That was very important to us since we use it so much.

Nice video... Have a 2017 Lance 2285. Yes, the awning is not the greatest. Wind is what makes me nervous.. We have the fixed glass front window, love it. Can't open, but love looking at the stars when possible. Vent covers also work great in summer to help with keeping it cooler... Outlet placement varries by floorplan. We have an outlet under cabinet in kitchen that is perfect for coffee maker. Safe travels.

When you are at your campsite, turn the power to the awning off after you put it out. That will keep it from auto retracting. That way you can keep the door open without worry. Again, only when you are there.👍🏻

Hello! Glad you did this video. My questions for both of you. 1) Do you even use that small ledge under your kitchen overhead cabinet... That is one new feature they added and I think 🤔 WHAT CAN I EVEN PUT IN THERE??? Specially if you are trying to avoid visual clutter! 2) Where is the designated place for the paper towel roll! 3) Why is the Cargo Carrying Weight Capacity so low? Lance Manufacturing Co please listen to us, your loyal customers! 4) What is your views on...The backup system, music system, tank systems, awning system, solar system... WHY ARE THESE NOT ALL ON ONE CENTRAL ELECTRONICS SYSTEMS accessible from your cell or a pc/tablet???? The technology is out there! Specially great for boondockers. 5) Are the trend and the needs to up the solar/electric not a real one? For example proper place for portable generator. As for solar & batteries... setup under the dinette. A removeable induction cooktop (gives you uncluttered countertops) and convection microwave would eliminate the stove. So to replace the stove becomes a cupboard to store your induction and instantpot. Now that would be great! Because the reality is that we all have our propane portable grills outside! Am I not correct? Don't get me wrong, we L💗VE our Lance. But have they not heard of boondocking? How we are truely using these trends while using our Lance rv Trailers seems to be seen but not acted upon in their designs & options! How is everyone else using their Lance RV trailer??? Thanks for sharing! We own the smallest Lance because we wanted compact and ways to boondock with the options of adding to the solar system. We all know we live outside our RVs but the inside is our comforts. Stay safe Vie 🇨🇦

We have not found anything that seems to fit on that ledge under the kitchen. It’s cute but so far for us its worthless. We ordered a paper towel holder on Amazon and installed it under the top cabinet in the kitchen which has worked out well for us. I know the new 2075 comes with the In-Command system where you can control everything from a central panel or via a smart phone app. My guess is cost plays into manufactures not using it on all trailers. It would make sense for companies like Lance to listen to their loyal customers....there is so much useful information they could use from owners to improve their products and increase sales.

There seems to be a lot of “voodoo math” in manufacturer’s specs . As Mark Freeman points out , Lance’s published cargo capacity is 1955 lbs. & hitch weight is approx. 560 lbs. Your prior video points out that “actual” hitch weight is quite a bit more . It seems to me that retailers would be doing their customers a great favor by giving the ACTUAL “out the door” weight on the hitch & EACH axle . My nephew is an engineer that does accident investigations for individuals and insurance companies . He will be the first to say that if you are involved in an accident , you do not want to be on the wrong side of vehicle loading .

It also has to do with what options you get installed on the camper. I have a 2019 1985. Bought it in late 2018. Without my things in it it was 4900 lbs. Dry with with Max weight of 5700 Gives me 800lbs for my things. Broucher listed it at 4245lbs. But with optional add ons brought it up to 4900. Have done a around 10000 miles with it. Love my lance camper.

Hello Patrick and Patty. You guys have some awesome comments about your rig!! Thank you for sharing them. Lance was definitely a top contender. Well....we finally did it. We ordered an Outdoors RV 22FQS. It is slightly bigger than your rig, at 26ft long. And, it is probably 2000 lbs heavier empty. But, we had made the decision that we were getting a Ford F350 gasser so that we have some extra towing capacity. The trailer is ordered; will be built in July (assume delivered in August). I hope to have the truck ordered by the end of this week. Safe travels!!

Patti - I have a tip. I have a heavy star gazer in my Little Guy Max. What I do is put a smallish pillow (12x12 x 2) against the middle of the window and I press my head against the pillow to raise the window (assuming I disconnected all the knobs first). Then I move forward and my head raises the window and I tighten the knobs with 2 free hands. Works great. I will be getting my 1985 soon and will do that with the Lance as well. I also plan to install a 1x8 across the window to serve as a headboard. Have not figured out yet how to attach it but since there is plenty of wood in the wardrobes I think it will work

my 2 cents. bought a new lance truck camper in october 2018. two months later, crazy downpour rain, three leaks: bathroom vent, kitchennette vent, bedroom vent. drove the same day to dealer. he fixed it and swore no more leaks. one month later, crazy downpour. the three previous leaks showed up and water running down the wall of the bedroom. drove it to the dealer, didnt ask permission, dumped it on his lot, demanded my 35k back, was told, "this isn't how it works". i said, "bull sh*t". drove to see the ceo in lancaster, california, and two weeks later i had a check. lance rv's and all rv's suck. by the way, getting money back is rare. so don't count on it. i got lucky.

Great video on your Lance. I have a Lance, 2285, bought it new, a July, 2020, model. Submitted to pressure to buy the extra service warranty, for $2,000.00. I live in it full time. I’ve had it for a bit more than one year. Right in the dealership, during our appointment, we came to pick up our brand new trailer, the dealer couldn’t find keys for the multitude of little locks, on doors around the trailer’s outside. So, problem solved with a master key. On the way home, one of the little outside doors opened and would not stay shut. Trailer in tow and back to the dealership, problem solved with silicone spray and a lot of jiggling. Once home, it was time for a function test. The shower nozzle fell out of the wall, into my hands. Yep, the screws that were holding it, just fell out of the wall. My inspection showed the original screws had been clipped off shorter, so they wouldn’t go completely through the wall. They hadn’t seated well. Problem solved with a trip to the hardware store (and a call to dealership service) for the correct size screws. Once parked in my new location, where I live for work. Two weeks at the new location and the awning began this infernal beeping. Yep, every two months the end of the awning must unscrewed and removed and a new battery replaced, so the automatic return will work. I stopped using the awning. All else went well until winter, January. The furnace failed. I did some trouble shooting per the operations booklet, checking the venting and possible bug nests. Nothing apparent, all clear. Still no furnace. Remember the terrible freeze up in February? Yep, no furnace. I bought an electric heater and used the stove top. Then the little red light panel, that indicates the tank levels, stopped working, just no lights. Then the oven refused to light. In March, the vents, one in the kitchen, one over the bed, started leaking rain like a sieve. I put tarps over the roof. The cabinets under the bathroom sink developed a serious mold problem, solved by keeping the door open all the time. We’re at the one year mark and the toilet won’t hold water. The faux leather on the den chairs is disintegrating, top layer peeling off the seat and armrests. Sigh…. I’m not rich. I’m living full time in this tiny RV for work. So, taking it to the Lance dealership service department and leaving it for a time is not a good option. I’m up for suggestions. Texas

We have a 2021 2375 that we just got this past August. Agree with you on a "tower of power " in the kitchen area - that's a project I'm going to do this year. And, the shower, not sure if you've tried or not but we unscrew and take that little plastic plug out and it drains just fine for us. Some other RV'ers told us about a ShowerShroom to put in there if you're concerned with hair possibly clogging up things. Lastly on the awning, I understand there is some range of adjustment in "pitch" that can lift it above the door - I've not yet tried, but might soon as ours also interferes with the doors. That said, we're loving our Lance!

@@TravelswithDelaney , It would have to be some serious accident for them to go to that extreme, an accident where you were at fault that involved fatalities where the grossly overloaded vehicle condition directly contributed to the occurrence. For an accident where you clip a pole in a turn or someone runs into you, they're not going to put your rig on a scale and say: "Ah-Ha, you're 300 pounds over the limit buddy, no cheese for you" A homeowner needs to get a permit from the city to say run an additional circuit to power a portable AC unit in a bedroom. If you don't, and then a year later your kitchen toaster shorts out and your house gets burned to the ground, the insurance company isn't going to deny your claim on account of the illegally installed extra circuit that had nothing to do with the fire. We started with a Lance truck camper 20 years ago. We now have a 2017 2385. Unfortunately, the quality has decreased in the intervening years. There were numerous issues that Lance didn’t take care of under warranty. The main one was a leaking skylight in the sitting area. We wish we still had the original truck camper. Re carrying capacity. I think the trailer weight includes full water and propane tanks. So, you may have the full 800 pounds. The manuals are in the trailer at the storage lot it I’d look it up. We tow the 2385 with equalizer bars, too. It has a rear kitchen which throws the towing off at highway speeds. The wheels on the trailer are set pretty far back, too because of the rear kitchen. I tow with a quad long bed. So, the turning radius is abysmal. Lance is now under the Thor Industries umbrella. Uncertain how it will affect quality.

I have a 2021 1995 and I have 1400# of cargo carrying capacity. I saw your tongue weight video and I really question the accuracy of the scale you used. The tongue weight you were getting was approaching 20% of the trailer weight which is unheard of in a travel trailer. The 1985 is a bit front heavy but the figures you are getting are a little extreme. I do believe that manufacturers should list the actual measured finished tongue weight of the trailer just like they do the overall weight on the sticker. The weights in Lances brochure is misleading and doesn’t account for any of the options on the trailer including AC. who buys a trailer without AC. I like the idea of heated holding tanks but I would like to see a 12 volt heating pad as well. I don’t use my furnace when I’m plugged into shore power to save propane. I use a space heater. The 12 volt tank pad would also be nice going down the road. It would also be nice if the AC unit had a heat pump or if an electric heating element would be included on the furnace to save propane while on shore power. I like the MCD roller shades as well but they should be included on this trailer. It is a premium price travel trailer! Overall Lance uses some of the best materials and has very good build quality. Using Azdel on the inside and outside walls is a big plus! The only other manufacturer that does that is Nexus motor homes and only on their high end models. Lance trailers for their size are spacious and have a high end feeling to them. The features and storage are adequate but improvements can be made. This however comes at a price. I live full time in my Lance and have the space and storage I need and I’m very comfortable in this trailer.

We actually went to the CAT scale to verify the tongue weight and it was correct. We have also talked to a couple of other 1985 owners who have said the same thing about theirs. Apparently some people intentionally choose the 1995 because it has a lighter tongue weight than the 1985.

Great info and channel! Considering a Lance 1475 or T@B 400 for full time living (single) no winter. You definitely got the experience, any thoughts? -thx

They are both well built trailers. The Lance may give you a bit more space especially in the bed area. The cuteness factor definitely goes to NuCamp with the 400.

We owned a 2018 1995 model, but ended on selling it and going back to a class c. Lance makes good quality TT but it comes with a big price tag. Why we sold it? The bathroom was a bit too small and I hated the shower curtain on tracks. Plus the shower was a bit small. What I missed the most was a loveseat or theater seat. I hope you enjoy your Lance TT.

I also dislike the shower curtain track because it leaks. It just seems to be an unusual design.

Interesting on the shower curtain. We actually love that on ours. We think it’s so much better than the cloth shower curtains that so many RV’s come with. Maybe just a preference.

I have to agree with Patrick when it comes to his acknowledgment of v-e-r-y limited cargo capacity of a little less than 400#. I didn't realize your RV is rated for 4-season. That is a BIG plus in my mind. With 6 months usage/mileage how are axle & tires working out?

We LOVE the 4 seasons aspect Bill! Going winter camping again next weekend which is so nice. So far the axles and tires are working out good. I don’t know if I told you but it came with Goodyear Endurance tires which is great. I will probably have Princess Craft do maintenance on the axles when we are there for warranty work in June.

Could the slow drain be because of thr trap design they used? I have at rap in my Max which is not conventional and gets clogged easily. It is not a S trap but a straight pipe with some sort of baffle inside. I do use a short broom in my Max to push water towards the drain when not level and that speeds us the draining but I do not have a problem with the speed of the drain in my max

I think that is part of the issue in our Lance. Someone else reached out and said that Lance uses different type of trap.

I have looked at Lance. Very well made. So what I do not like on the 1985 is the door near the bed. The 1995 is in the rear near the bathroom. What is the reasoning for a door near the bed? What are your thoughts?

  • @TravelswithDelaney

We looked at both the 1985 and 1995 and were fine with either. It came down to the 1985 was what was in stock at the time. I personally prefer the 1985 because the bathroom is larger because it is the whole back of the trailer. We don't mind having the door in the bedroom as we make the bed into the couch during the day. Both floor plans are very nice.

So having a front window/windshield like you do and I also have , are you concerned about stone damage , cracks ? I'm considering a xpel film or something similar . Even a nano coating increases the glass 80% they claim . Lots of trailers with front glass have breakage issues , a club I don't want to join .

Our front window is one of the euro style plastic windows that’s supposed to be what’s used in aircraft. We had the same thing on our T@B 400 and never had an issue. They do however scratch easy.

I'd be concerned about what looks like a very flimsy protruding door handle. Isn't that a danger when passing vehicles/pedestrians? Maybe it's retractable?
