One year later… Did we make a mistake buying our Winnebago Travato??

We have had our Winnebago Travato 59K for a year now. Did we make a mistake down sizing from a larger RV? Do we like vanlife? Are we going to stop RVing?

Nothing for me like a hot shower in the privacy of my own RV. No flip-flops, schleping toiletries, towels and having to dress and undress in sketchy circumstances.

…and I would much rather have a group shower with lots of pretty women wearing flip-flops, lathering me up with soap and toweling me off dry, then white knuckling a behemoth of an RV…I’m just say’n… The sketcher the better, wink-wink. Live a little, lol…

I own and travel in a 2018 Travato 59G...also have an electric bike but went with folding bike to be able to store inside so less worry about theft. Also carry a folding ORU kayak on the roof, a Brava Oven for cooking, wet suit with snorkeling gear, switched out tv for Apple computer with versa mount, Starlink with extendable flagpole, and almost never use campgrounds. Current trip is Key West, Fl to Banger, Maine then up to Newfoundland, Canada, across to Deadhorse, Alaska, down to Homer, over to Skagway, then to Miles City, Montana and back up to Glacier National Park and currently outside Libby , Montana. So far I have only paid for 3 nights inside Glacier NP at $10.00 a night.

@@EECCTravels I do very little planning and never make advance reservations allowing me to travel at the speed I want. If I like a place I can spend more time for example I am now staying at a Corp. of Engineer Campground called Blackwell Flats outside Libby, Montana for free for 2 weeks. I use IOverlander app almost exclusively.

@@jerryjenkins5739 This is the way I'm seeing to go if you really wanna do the traveling. Great information. As I seen another couple 1st rented a van went to amazing places before getting a 5th wheel then settling with kids home schooling etc. To another couple i follow just recently checking out these campsites and last minute just to see what they could find. They found all they needed on 4th of July weekend. Was told most all always have a availability for drop ins coming by there way. They used apps also. But didn't gey free. How are you getting for free? Boondocking? Thank You I can't wait to get to Keys & Many more gorgeous places.

Just found your channel and subbed.I dream of the van life but it probably won’t happen. I am a solo lady full time RVer. 92 years old in October 2023. I had a 37’ 2000 Bounder for years. Loved it. Finally downsized to a 2016 Monaco TREK. 28’ and realize now I would have been better off in a 30/32’ coach. However with some mods, I have made it work for me. It does have great storage and full body paint. I would have a hard time fitting all my stuff in a B as I sell jewelry on Ebay. Even with that, I am temped to try it. I think I would go with a G however as I need a desk/workspace area. I also prefer the larger frig in the G but do love the storage closet in the K. I will be following your adventures!

HI Guys!! Great video as usual. Love to see your smiling faces. I love the fact that the van is so easy and comfortable to drive. We have two medium - large dogs, so when we camp it's the need to accommodate them that stops us from the smaller RVs. I appreciate that you all mention what is good for you. I like the info on the bikes too. So great to see you guys on the road and I just can't stop watching because you make the adventure so real and positive. We have cruised the Panama Canal, we just did a 7-day Alaskan cruise (and enjoyed your recent videos) and are booked for a two-week cruise around the tip of South America this January. However! We started to RV in a Class A diesel pusher with a tow car, went way small with the first edition Sprinter Class B, and then settled into an Itasca Navion Class C with bunk beds (we sleep much better!) and e-bikes off the back end. Everybody has their own comfort level. It took us three tries to find ours. Love your channel.

Back in the 70's when custom vans were all the rage, I built my Dodge extended van with pretty much the same layout as the Travado K. Of course, instead of sink and cooktop that area was the bar. Swivel seats up front and rear double bench and table that converted into to full size bed. Bathroom was located in the bushes to the left. Super functional! Tons of fun. Now that I'm 65 I think I'll feel right at home in the Travado K. With the added feature of indoor plumbing. Can't beat that.

We have been fulltime in our RV for 8 years now, living the minimalist lifestyle is so amazing but it is not for everyone for sure. In fact we may someday have a 2nd rv and it would be a van for weekending because towing our 39' toy hauler isn't always easy to get into certain mountain locations. Glad you are enjoying your Winnebego, they make a great product!

Great video! We’re considering. Thought about a B+ unit, but concerned about easy mobility. Don’t want to tow… seems like a complete burden. Wondering about the ease of navigating in the travel van. I’ll be doing (lady driver) majority of the driving. Thanks for sharing you experience!

Hi Guys! Can’t wait to see the inside of your new digs! Loved this video-thanks for doing it. Do you guys have a home base, or are you strictly on the road now? I know you sold your house a few videos back? Thanks for the videos-my husband and I enjoy them so much. We live in the North Ga mountains and loved your Dollywood and the videos of that area.

If you search on our channel we have a full tour of the RV and how we organize the RV. These videos are linked on the endscreen too. We ended up buying another house so we have a home base for us and the kids when we are home.

Biggest mistake we ever made was trading in our 19ft Lance travel trailer for a Winnebago Travato. Poor quality, poor customer service, and overall a terrible experience. We got rid of it as soon as we could. We are never buying a Winnebago again! The van space wasn’t the issue for us …the quality & the brand was. We spent months at the factory getting warranty work and getting the run around.

What do you do about luggage for when you are going from the van to a cruise ship? Is there a place to store the suitcases or do you use collapsible duffels?

Yeah, I could defiantly live in a van. I car camp part time and travel around the US sleeping inside a Toyota RAV 4. Do you drive and park at cruise ports? I've been thinking about doing that more out of my car because i feel like it might be cheaper than plane tickets and hotel rooms. I know some cruise ports are much cheaper to park at than others.

I have a 24' Class C that I'm selling, but I do love the large tanks on it and the huge refrigerator. How have you found downsizing to the tiny tanks and refrigerator space? It's a very big difference.

I like the Travato but for me if you would have to be the 59GL because I cook all my meals so I need the bigger fridge. Also, I do not want to be putting my bed away and moving cushions around everyday.

I would option the acrylic windows if I owned the K model. I love awning windows. One thing a B van allows you to to is just open sliding door and let the weather and sun into the van. Can't do that with C class. I have an Embassy Sport on the Ford Transit 350 HD dually chassis with the Ecoboost engine. Big power. If I didn't have it, I would have the KL.

You two always do such a great job showing what we need to see, whether it's cruising or van/RV life! I appreciate how you tell it like it is, yet have such a great attitude about changing when you feel you need a change. I think I'd have a blast with that van and those bikes! Do you have any type of security system for when you're off biking around, touring, etc. without the van? Or just lock the doors and go? I only wonder because you have so many of your belongings in there (not like a car). Thanks for another helpful video!

We just lock the doors and go. We also add a bike lock when the bikes are at our campsite or strapped to the van.
