I get the feeling the Giants aren't tipping their hand about Evan Neal because he may not be ready to go when training camp begins. I'm sure there is a contingency plan to deal with this, but I hope the Giants don't hesitate to implement it. The offense will only go as far as the O-line goes and they need players who can competently play their position along the line. But if Neal isn't ready to play RT, I can only imagine his replacement will be either Stinnie or Ezeudu. Until I see the O-line perform reasonably well as a unit, I think I'm going to be anxious about it. It's not fixed until its performance is at least serviceable. Let's hope the coaches figure it out., otherwise, we're in for another long season.

Yes, but Eleumenor has stated he expects himself to stay in one place. At this point, the situation makes one speculate, which I don't like doing. In the end, I look at the O-line and, despite the team's efforts, it does not appear to be repaired or even patched up. It's like a house of cards where one fallen card brings down the whole stack. Last season the O-line was porous up the middle besides the different ways Neal was beaten, so I can see why Eleumenor and Runyon are playing guard, which makes Neal being healthy and finally effective at RT all the more critical. If he's not healthy enough to play, or plays and gets injured, or plays and still hasn't improved, the Giants need to make adjustments, probably during the season. I'd rather they make the adjustments during training camp. Until the O-line stabilizes, I'm going to continue to be uncomfortable about the unit, because their performance is crucial to the success of the offense. Sorry for the long comment but I'm venting a bit. I'll stop with this final thought - despite the $7M they are paying Neal, if he's not ready then I'd rather they don't rush him back. He needs to be healthy, i.e., not likely to reinjure his surgically repaired ankle, and effective at the position. This means he needs to demonstrate he can play it properly in practice before giving him the starting job - he needs to earn it. Thanks.

​​@@BowlerJ1 I understand the skepticism based on our Olines track record. But we have a new Oline coach, 2 new starting players on the Oline, 5 new veteran players as backups & it's June. You think maybe you could at least wait to see this group in maybe 1 preseason game B4 making assumptions.

I too have concerns bc this unit by far needs to drastically improve which the coaching staff is fully aware. Hiring a new oline coach and adding more depth players is a good start. I’m not a fan of the constant shuffling on the line although I know it’s necessary when someone gets injured.

We have been waiting for 12 years for someone to come to the Giants and fix our offensive line issues and every time we get coaches that are called guru’s and they wet the bed , why because they want to play musical chairs with the offensive lineman saying we need versatility, when we actually need continuity. Players need to be comfortable with what they do every day Runyan said he’s comfortable playing the left side and Eleumunor was a right tackle who can play right guard but let’s swap their positions and pray it works. If we fail within the first two games due to our offensive line, we need to fire someone in season because this is driving our fan base crazy

It never ceases to amaze me how the Giants (and for all I know, other teams as well) can be so completely unforthcoming about injuries without being exposed or eviscerated by the press corps. Sports beat reporters would never survive in the Washington press.

I think the Giants are going to surprise some teams. I am still sticking with 9 wins. Love your podcasts, but Evan Neal? He'll be okay, or he won't, he'll be the starting RT, or he won't. Not one O-line in the NFL is "set" for sure at the end of minicamp. Predictions in OTAs are like predictions of rain 2 Fridays from now.

OTAs can only be evaluated for speed and gym strength. Added speed and strength don't necessarily translate to better play, but it's really good sign if that's what was causing the player to not play well. Flott and Hyatt adding muscle and hoping to add some by camp is promising. It would have been nice to see if Neal's foot speed was faster, but we'll see in camp.

Nice assessments and good info. Thank you. I think it would be a mistake for Jones not to play in the pre-season. Like you said that may have been the reason why he wasn't ready for game day.

Cracks me up. Upgraded WR room, daboll calling plays, star pash rusher. NONE of this matters yet AGAIN if the same damn thing isn’t fixed. All worthless if line is the same, and if Daniel doesn’t progress. This team blows my mind.

I think Neal refused to play in another position then RT and he’s wants to be traded 😮

If Eluminor replaces Neal as a starter, is there enough O line bench depth in the event of more injuries?

Great recap Patty. What are your thoughts about Eluminor on the L side rather than the right? Based on what we’re seeing from-or not seeing-from Neal-he appears detached from the team, in addition to his injuries and very poor play, I’m not holding out much hope…😢
