Absolutely loving this release, Help I'm a rock is on repeat here :-) A section of Kink Kong from uncle meat was recorded at Miami.

Duh! I know the King Kong title actually says Miami in it, but the festival was actually in a town near Miami so I kinda overlooked that....Thanks.

To be honest, I think Motörhead plays tenor on King Kong. Also on Road Tapes 1. It’s consistent with him being credited with “frenetic tenor sax stylings” on Uncle Meat (see “Motörhead Explains It”). The baritone was added on the European tour, which also meant the horn bottom end for doo-woo songs (here, conspicuously absent on “In the Sky”). Bunk also plays soprano sax where relevant (like “America Drinks”), and more interestingly still, he seems to pick up the bass clarinet on the improv episode II. I think that is my favourite of the improvised tracks, really sets a peculiar yet subtle mood. The Wazoo comparison seems apt, both the Grand Wazoo (thinking of Rhodes and bass clarinet) and Petit Wazoo (the feel you would get from a smaller lineup) seem like fine reference points. The original Memories of El Monte recording by the Penguins (FZ on vibes!) also references a bunch of these songs, also “Earth Angel”. It’s like it was always intended as a “spot the tune” exercise. I think Alice Cooper’s set did come out some time ago. Except erroneously listed as a 1969 gig.

Prog magazine recently gave this set a 2/5 and I was very frustrated... Glad your thoughts are similar to mine. As much as I like road tapes venue 1, I think this is a more definitive live mothers release.

What a release! Again! Amazing! Again! Is the earliest Mothers show officially released? Great to hear Ray and see him in the promotional video. It sounds great, too, for a 60s recording.

Apparently the Alice Cooper set was released in the 90s but incorrectly labeled as ‘69

It is my understanding that the release that's Alice Cooper at the Whiskey 1969, is actually this show.

Interesting. Same setlist for the lve release that I have seen for the 68 show but Alice Cooper played the Whisky A LOT in 69 so I was not sure. Thanks.
