[ What we ate for breakfast ] Japanese married couple with a kid / Holiday

Hi It's Imamu! This is a morning we had a nice breakfast :)
PS: Like I explained in the video, I wanted to make proper Japanese breakfast sometimes, like a Japanese B&B ( Minshuku in Japanese) that’s why I made it at the day :)
Thank you for watching I hope you enjoy my video!
Please forgive my poor English🙇‍♀️

I spent a few weeks in Japan a couple of years back and I have to say I am impressed by how much healthier the food is in general. Even "fast food" places have healthier options than what we have at similar places in the US. I even remember going to the 7 Eleven and feeling like there were actually whole foods to grab and go like bentos with fish and fermented veggies. It is nothing like that here. I think you guys live longer than we do on average and it's not surprising.

I’ve found many on amazon, but if you’re like me and want to avoid using amazon, you can try and find one in your local Asian market. I’ve seen them in tiny little mom and pop shops all the way to bigger, slightly more corporate-like Asian marts. They are expensive though! Mine is a standard that I got off of the Zojirushi website and it was over 200$ before shipping. Even smaller ones are still about 160+. Though, if you just want a standard rice cooker that only cooks rice, America does import much cheeper ones, I’ve found very simple rice cookers for about 20$-30$ in Walmart before. But, that was only one time in a very Asian centred part of my city. But if you can, I highly recommend Zojirushi! Not only can it cook rice, but steams, makes cakes, specialises in brown rice, even easy rice porridge! It has timing functions so it starts cooking at the time you set, so you can set your rice cooker up before you leave for work, or even the night before and when you get up/get home, you have warm, perfectly cooked rice waiting for you! Best purchase I’ve ever made, I adore my rice cooker so much.

I’m an old American broad with an adventurous streak. I love Japanese food and have taken the time to learn about it and prepare various dishes. I also ferment foods, so it was natural that I try natto. While considered an acquired taste, I absolutely love it! The grandkids beg me to prepare bentos for them and are huge veggie eaters because of what I’ve learned about this wonderful culture. This type of breakfast is an amazing way to start the day and a small amount of prep the night before makes it a breeze. Salted salmon is also tasty and easy. Can’t say enough good things about their food 🥰

@@asheefaazmialifia3069 consumerism comes from the word "to consume" which in this case means to buy. It's basically our mania with buying things. Consumerism is this thing we have going on as humans since the 60s when people would (through very intense and appealing advertising) try to sell as many products as they can, and we as the "audience" fell for it. Seeing lots of pancake batter brands advertising their products as a "quick and easy breakfast" made more and more people consume that product. Note that when we mention consumerism, it almost always is in a negative way. Consumerism is very bad, and it's getting worse, because all those appealing foods they advertise tend to be very unhealthy and it's really damaging the population

It's an acquired taste. I'm Japanese so I was eating natto as a child. My 5 year old kid has been eating natto like champ. My husband is Korean and he can't eat it. 😂 People who didn't grow up eating it rarely like it understandably. He says he can't stand the smell and slimy texture. Japanese dishes have a considerable amount of slimy and gooey textured foods so I guess that's our thing.

I've always found it so fascinating how different breakfast is around the world. In America breakfasts often incorporate (or are entirely) sweet foods like pancakes, french toast, cereal, or muffins. Sometimes a breakfast will be all savory, but that's usually just bacon and eggs and toast. So cool how elaborate and savory Japanese breakfasts are. Seems nice for a change, less sugar, more protein, more energy for the day!
