During those 6 years, it’s also important to note that Van Niekerk got married, moved from South Africa to America, changed training groups/coaches, and became a father. What’s astounding to me is that even with massive life changes, which could easily and understandably shift his priorities and focus, Van Niekerk still worked his way back to the top. What an incredible return.

His running looks so effortless, and it's almost as if his body under-produces lactic acid in the final straightaway of the 400 (relative everyone else). May he stay injury free and continue to grace the track community with his superhuman abilities!

He is reminding me of the year he broke the world record. He never ran under 44 in his 2016 season until the race he broke the record. Not saying he will this year but he’s obviously in very great shape I’ve watched and analyzed many of his races. And it’s clear he’s not running all out you can literally see a kick at the 300 but too much of a kick like he’s saving energy. All his races this season have been test runs leading up to Budapest. I see 43.5-43.6 at worlds. If he runs faster than 43.5 than he may eventually be able to break the record again in the coming seasons.

If he can get that handled really well, he could get back down to the low 43’s and that should be enough to take the Gold. But if his relaxation at high speed is exceptional, he could go after the first sub-43 in history. That would be really something.

Some might not know this, but his cousin is Cheslin Kolbe, a Springbok (South African National team) rugby player, who just so happens to be one of the faster rugby players in the world and is considered by many to be on his way to becoming a rugby great. Quite obviously, speed runs in the family. I'll see myself out.

In watching 40 years of athletics, WVN's 8th lane blind WR in my opinion has only ever been matched in an Olympic stadium by what David Rudisha did at London 2012 in the 800m final.

Stoked to see him back, also imagine if bolt kept doing the 400m😳 He’d do like 42 seconds

Bolt never trained for the 400 and his heart wasn’t in it 😂 he never broke 45 seconds so a 42 was very unlikely

Well I see his heart wasn’t in it but 400m used to be his main event. Imagine van niekerk but 6 foot 5. That’s a sub 43

6:44 dude. this is near blasphemy. Wayde is generationally great. A true legend. & to him and everyone else, I'm sure that's enough. Bc calling him the greatest or even entertaining he's the greatest sprinter in history is just plain not right. He has an impressive 3 golds in global competition across 2 events along with his silver at worlds in the 200m. Again, that's highly impressive. My man - Bolt has 8 gold medals.... at the olympics alone. & 6 of those are individual. At worlds, Bolt has 9 individual medals spread across 2 events, with 7 of them gold. and you could say if you wanted "well Wayde is young give him time he'll catch up". To that I'd say that's not quite true - he's really not that young. but moreover, Bolt didn't earn a single global medal when he reached the age of 30. LET THAT SINK IN. Bolt did everything he did at the exact same age as WVN. and by the time of Wayde's injury at that age, if Bolt stopped there, he'd had not 1 but 2 world records, 5 individual global golds, 7 in total golds including relays... i mean there's just no debate. not only this but it's ignorant to history. It's hard to adjust for proper scientifically engineered spikes and clean tracks instead of what many had to contend with but take the preWWII era sprinters. you talk about what wayde did in a month. bro... Jesse Owens broke THREE world records and matched a 4th one inside an hour. and it wasn't just a product of time. Not only are the times quick but imagine doing them back to back.
