He wasn't acting that irrationally imo. Up until now, everyone has seen The Deep as a complete joke, and Coleman had additional dirt on him. Coleman has also been Vought's chief propaganda guy, so presumbly imagined if it came down to it Homelander would back him over Deep (since he's objectively been FAR more useful to Homelander's image than Deep has). What he didn't know was that Homelander has largely stopped caring about his image at all and is now fully on his supe-supremacist arc.

I love Ashley, such a great character, the actor really captures how horrifying to know you could be killed any moment but you can play your cards right.

I don't think Coleman knows that much about what Homelander and Vought does behind the scenes. He just spins every story Vought gives to him, he doesn't verify anything, so there's no reason for Vought to ever tell him what really happened.

They are killing most of the characters since the shows will end with season5. Hughie's dad getting powers and then dying was completely uncalled-for
