Ойын-сауық
The Book of Boba Fett series premiere brought us a new monster, which it has taken to calling the Behemoth. But, did it already exist in Star Wars Lore? On today's video, I'll break down the first episode of the Book of Boba Fett, Stranger in a Strange Land, and take a look at the new monster.

I really like how the Mandalorian (and now Book of Boba Fett) is content with creating new creatures instead of just sticking to previous movies or even the EU. I think too many fictional universes get bogged down in super extensive canon to the extent where people are afraid to do new things because the entire ecosystem of Tatooine was catalogued extensively in a general grievous novel from 2003 or something. As much as I understand how some people want to know every little detail of the universe, I will always appreciate stuff like the Behemoth that just comes out of nowhere and nobody knows what the hell it is.

While watching the episode, my brain instantly assumed that this was a Juvenile Crait Dragon. There's been a few different versions of the Dragon over time, and this one feels like it is almost like them, but not quite. It's got a few superficial things going for it. Like its reptilian features, and it just chilling there in the sand hibernating. Not to mention, we know Tatooine is a hellscape of nightmares in the dunes. While we as humans think this is scary, I think in relation to the rest of Tatooine, this thing would just be prey for the actual apex predators. I personally feel like this has to be some baby version of a much bigger animal. We know it's not ambush predator, since if it were, it would have woken up long before the third time the Rodian poked it's hands. If that thing eats, it clearly hunts. My personal bet is Juvenile Crait Dragon. Maybe in a century or two it'll start to resemble it's parents. Like some sort of nightmarish tadpole.

@@newon2014 It is a strange thing to say considering its a galaxy and a million animals exist. It honestly reminded me of kotory things if I think beyond that

@@newon2014 I guess the body shape, the centaur style walk and just the way it carried itself in general. It had very human-like movements at times but also was meant to be a non-sentient type of species which I guess is one factor of why it felt off for me. Usually Star Wars beasts are very animalistic, like the Massiff for example. This one felt weirdly sentient and moved as if it wasn’t acting purely instinctually. 4:18-4:38 this clip is a good example of what I mean. The way it grabs the staff and roars, then slowly turns toward the Rodian made it seem like a mythical beast that would fit more of a medieval fantasy genre than a space odyssey.

@@RC-zb8tl "human-like movements" and having qualities smarter than a non-sentient animal... Like the Wompa and Rancor, two of the most iconic and Star Warsy monsters there are! Personally, I really liked it and it felt very Star Wars, it felt like a creature straight out of a Star Wars Role Playing book, or old Essential Guide. I also liked its atleast semi-sentient qualities, gave me Mantellian Savrip vibes. Many animals in Star Wars also typically show high levels of intelligence, even the Acklay pulled the spear out of itself and then broke it in two in its mouth as if it knew what it was doing.

I think it’s kinda off-looking too, but I justify it by just recognizing that the Star Wars galaxy is an incredible bit larger than earth. Here on earth, we have cats, giraffes and we also have angler fish. 😂 Biodiversity sometimes means things that just look unreal even by real standards of the universe you’re in. Real or fictional
I didn't really like the monster. It felt really out of place in the Star Wars universe. It felt like it belonged in an episode of Xena or The Adventures of Sinbad (remember that show?). I think that a Rancor or baby Rancor would have made more sense instead of some random hodge-podge lizard/insect thing with muscular human-looking arms like he was on steroids and had a yearly gym membership. It was pretty bad, uninspired, the CGI looked bad, and yeah I couldn't get past the human-looking bodybuilder arms. Ugh.

It's an alien apex predator from another planet. And I don't get how something can be "just Star Wars." If I were a biologist in the future and I was examining a skeleton of some creature in space, I wouldn't be going "Wow, this thing is very Star Wars." Also, Star Wars used to take inspiration from every little thing during the 70s.
I love the end scene playing with your dog more of that please
I have to say this was really a great design. As for what it is, I think it being a logra is a nice way of expanding upon a very niche creature so im gonna go with that.
New person to the channel love the vids
It is a shot out to Princess of Mars books which Lucas got the whole dessert planet thing from, and it looks like Tars Tarkas.
The outro got my like and sub
That tweet suggesting it was a Logra was in reply to me, pretty cool :D
I immediately thought of Ray Harryhausen when I saw this creature! Definitely bares a resemblance to the Ymir and the Kraken, as well as a few of his other creations.
Great call out to the Logra - I wasn’t sure, but it seemed close. Thank you!
I liked the fact that the 'behemoth' can switch from bipedal to quadrupedal locomotion at will. Going back to the Mortal Kombat analogy used by EckhartsLadder, this would be like a combination species of Centaur (Motaro) and Shokan (Goro, Sheeva or Kintaro)...at least in terms of locomotion. So...pretty cool!

Also the Green Marthians from the Barsoom books that inspired Star Wars both directly and indirectly by inspiring Dune as well
I’m sticking to machamp lol. Good video man!
I kinda figured this was a case of “unused concept art finding a new use”, like they do so often. This struck me as maybe an abandoned rancor design or something meant to appear on Dagobah.

@@scifiguy26To be fair, Lucasfilm has been doing this kinda thing since since Empire at least… (Cloud City was based off an idea from ANH that made it to the concept art stage)
Anakin: I don’t like sand.😟 Behemoth: I was born in the sand. 😈
It is very much a tribute to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Carter of Mars series of the Green Martians and the Apt the latter first appears in "Warlord of Mars".
Loved this scene⚡
Haven’t seen the episode yet, but I love how that thing walks! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite like it!
cool information...thanks!
what a great outro
I've been waiting to see one of the species featured in dejarik. A Mantellian Savrip or Kintan Strider would be so awesome to finally see on screen.
As soon as I saw that thing, my mind jumped to that episode on jonny quest called sea haunt! The creature in that episode looked shockingly like this one.
I think it's a nocturnal creature that sleeps under the sand during the day - which is why we haven't seen it before. So the Rodian disturbed its beauty sleep, which is why it understandably got pissed.
That monster also looks like something from a frank frazetta painting - loved it!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who saw it and immediately thought of Ray Harryhausen
I need the intro/outro music played at my wedding
Glad to see I wasn't alone in how much this reminded me of Harryhausen's work - I wonder if the production team meant it to be a tribute to his work? The design actually reminds me a lot of the Kraken from the original Clash of the Titans
I always liked the Gun-darks, however you spell it. When I was little they scared me, but the season 1-2 episodes they appeared in clone wars is nostalgia for me.
Interesting video idea
I'm glad I'm not the only person to notice the resemblance to Ray Harryhausen's original Kraken.
Great video! When my wife and I were watching the show she asked what it was and usually I have, at least, some vague idea, but I was completely stumped with this one. Both my wife and I were thinking more Kraken than anything else. Though, if you know your Harryhausen, I think the monster from _20 Million Miles to Earth_ is more akin to the Behemoth than the _Clash of the Titans_ version. But, they are basically the same creature from the waist up.

@Shirt Flames Aww, do you really need attention that bad? I'm sorry, but here you go, buddy. _You are so funny, you are so awesome. What a great, funny comment you made._ Have you been assuaged or do you still need more attention? :-)
Really dig the practical effects used to bring that beast to life. Of course, puppetry has its own issues just like CGI but the fact that it's a tangible thing and not an illusion makes it come to life so much more in the process.
This thing was so cool conception wise alone. Like a centaur that could decide if it wanted to chase you down with four legs, or stand up on you and tear you apart with four arms....unless you're Boba fett with a metal chain and a dream of course.
