What Was the 1918 Influenza Pandemic?

One hundred years ago, a new influenza virus appeared and swept across the globe, killing between 50 and 100 million people. Two NIAID experts, Dr. Jeffery Taubenberger and Dr. David Morens, discuss why the 1918 flu was so deadly, and what resurrecting the virus from preserved tissues has taught us.
If a similar pandemic arose today, could we stop it? Watch this video to find out more: • Could the 1918 Influen...

The Spanish flu if you look it up in a few books in the library was most definitely also Vaccinations given young men before going to war. This explains why these same vaccines were Not Given people afterwards ever again. There are pictures of this and film if you look for them Look at the history of vaccines and you can see how this could happen and why the very unusual symptoms they had suffered. Also the solvents they used to mix vaccine was not good so it was a gamble that you might die or not die from the vaccinations.

My Grandfather died of The 1918 flu. I never got to meet him, He died at 28 years old. My dad was only 2 years old at that time. His mother and baby sister had a very rough time. Fortunately kindly relatives took them in. My dad made it through The 1918 Flu, The Great Depression and barely through World War II . In his life he was a devoted son, ww2 U. S. Army 1st Leut., disabled Vet., Father, Grandfather, banker & college professor. That stretch from 1918 through 1946 was a real rough period. I don't know how my dad made it to 83 years old.

The public didn't know what vitamins were until the 1950s. The USA had just recovered from an economic disater of the boll weevil cotton pest, also the eastern USA had another ecological disaster all their chestnut trees had died due to a fungus, many people were starving & lacking nutrients. There was little or no Hospital care, no antibiotics, no sulphur drugs, no reticulated water, no reticulated sewerage, and returning servicemen who's immunities were low.....not surprising people died like flies in 1918.

I wonder what could have contributed to causing the *secondary* *bacterial infections* that killed *most* of the people in the "Spanish Flu Pandemic"? When you cover your mouth and nose for prolonged periods of time you re-inhale the germs and bacterial colonies that form on the inside of the mask and on the mouth. The lungs are a short distance to catch the infection and presto you dead in 11 days. There is a strong possibly that history will rhyme in 2021.

Here's the solution I think to the sleep disease following he 1918 flu pandemic: opioids were used extensively to treat any condition, so obviously flu as well. Opioids and more so meth reduces orexin levels on withdrawal for many months (assuming orexin neurons are still present). So people get sick with flu, treated with opioids, then when flu is over no more opioids so dramatically lower levels of orexin in some, which we know leads to 'the sleeping disease'

COVID risk maybe tied to your blood group. Viruises are weird little white as is the immune system

My great aunt and uncle died from the 1918 flu in a very rural part of New Mexico. They were in their twenties and married in February of that year and both died in December 1918. They lived in a small community northeast of Tucumcari New Mexico. Both died within 24 hours of getting the flu. People that rested sitting up in bed had a better chance of survival than the ones laying down in bed. They basically drowned in the fluid in their lungs. They think that this flu originated at Fort Riley Kansas. They had 5000 horses and mules at the fort and had to do something with the manure and decided to burn it. It produced a yellow smoke and the first day 40 soldiers reported to sick bay with flu like symptoms.

It was called the Spanish flu because it was the officials in Spain who were brave enough to announce it. I read an extensive report on how it got to "Spain". The US had hired Chinese as workers not to fight as soldiers, but to do behind the lines necessary work. That would free US personnel to be in combat. The Chinese boarded train for the trip to NY. There were several stops along the trip for fuel and food and rest stops. The flu was later found at all those stops. Some of the Chinese workers were visibly ill during that trip. The outbreaks have been traced to have spread outward from the stops as if t hey were the hubs of transmission. Then in NY the infected but not visibly ill associated with many people in the process or preparing for the boat ride to Europe. The time of outbreaks in Europe follows the time of their arrival. So, the Spanish flu that killed approximately 100 million people originated in China and was brought across the US before traveling to Europe. It seems to me every damned version of flu has originated in China. What the HELL are they doing over there? The 1918 Spanish flu. Killed 50-60 million Asian flu 1956-7 Killed approximately 2 million Flu epidemic of 1968. (This was actually spreading during the Woodstock concert, killed about 2 million) SARS 2002 infected about 20,000, killed 800. N5N1 2008 bird flu no figures for humans H1N1 swine flu 2009 not quite as deadly but sickened about 100 million who then missed work and some had lung problems lat Bird flu in 2015 wiped out millions of birds people used as food. Covid in 2019, first they tried to scare the hell out of us with 200 million were going to die, now it's hard to find statistics. According to Forbes about 7 million have died but may be under reported due to China's reluctance to supply accurate figures. Now a new version of bird flu is spreading and this version sickens humans as well not just birds. It would be a shame to have to nuke China to kill off all those viruses but how else to stop it? Something is not right over there. How the hell did that managed to have 1.4 billion people with all that flu going on?
