What Viking Parties Were Like
Ойын-сауық
Ancient Norse seafaring Vikings were well-known as explorers, traders, and warriors. But when they got down, they weren't messing around. Sure, Norse Sagas tell of epic voyages, and etymological studies have granted insight into the lands to which they traveled and settled. Archeological evidence has revealed records of weapons and armor they fought with. But what our current perception of the Vikings sometimes overlooks, and shamefully so, is that, in addition to thrilling expeditions to far-flung lands, Vikings had some pretty wild festivities. Maybe you're wondering "What were Viking parties like?"

In spite of their ferocity, they were incredible mariners, explorers, as well as traders. Their shipbuilding skills were cutting edge for the time. Yes, more Viking content PLEASE.

A 2 week Viking party sounds very similar to Spring Break.
Those Viking parties were definitely the precursors to intense frat parties.🥳

This sounds like a metal festival. Lasts for days and weeks. No chairs (destroyed on day 1), stupid games, drinking, growling, tales of epic quests, barbecue all day and beating each other up for fun in a moshpit.
That structure at 2:41...they should build those for party halls today!
LOL.. Sitting here in Hobro(an old viking town), Denmark.. With hangover from 2 days of partying 🎉🍻
As a Dane I am pretty happy to be descended from such valiant partiers. Not surprising when you consider that the Norse religion's vision of paradise chiefly included fighting and partying all day and featured an immortal pig that one could eat over and over again :-) 😆

you think that let's say Canute the Great expected to munch on pork for all eternity ? first church in Ribe was built during the reign of Horik II and ours in Hedeby even a few yrs earlier under his predecessor Horik den Gamle ....and his predecesor/co-ruler Harald Klak already converted in the 820s ......those silly fairytales of starving Icelanders about never ending pork supply n stuff.....

About 17 years ago, a Viking stealthily invaded our homestead in the guise of a small toe-headed warlord. The atrocities comment against chicken nuggies are vast, but that was what felt like a lifetime ago. Walked up the trail with him to consider taking up the grill for the summer. I still remember his first day in raiding school, never scared but also never quiet and now we are learning loot management. Vikings gotta sail.

There is a party game called Viking Master (or Viking Warrior?). I have seen it once before and it looked fun, but never played it myself.
Do one on Roman parties, aka bacchanalia
As a Vikinger, when you partied, you drank enough mead to leave Loki catatonic. You lay with enough women to leave Freyr with an inferiority complex. And you got into enough unnecessary fights to make Odin feel like maybe he should just chill for a bit...

@@ElisaFob I figured that was the most appropriate way to refer to the Scandinavian raiders of the Viking age. _'Viking'_ meaning something like _'a voyage of raiding and exploration'._ Which was more of a thing you did than a thing you were. So a person going on a Viking would, I guess be a Vikinger.

The neighbors were not angry about the Vikings' raiding and pillaging; everyone did that. They were jealous of the Vikings long, flowing, flaxen mullets.
If only somebody had introduced them to the game Twister
I would attempt a two week celebration like that, but I would not drink that much. I am not a fan of drinking for the sake of getting drunk. Minus the dangerous parts and the sacrifices, that party is a winner. If the entire thing is hosted by people from Sweden, it would be a phenomena! Making it as authentic as possible would be the key, it would need to be like living those moments in history.
Party like it's 999
Yes
Imagine if Scandinavia resisted Christianity pass the 1000s, would we be talking about the Scandinavian crusades of the 12 and 13 centuries. Lithuania could have kept their beliefs up to the 15th century or longer. Tho eventually force would have been used as always as history has shown
So why the thumbnail of the winged helmet?
