What Typing 100 WPM Looks Like (QWERTY vs Dvorak)

Ойындар

If you are struggling to break 100 WPM or just curious about what typing 100 WPM looks like, this video might help you. Hopefully it will help you recognize the pace you need to type in order to break this barrier.
This video also provides a comparison of QWERTY and Dvorak. The black keyboard on the bottom left shows what it looks like on QWERTY while the blue one shows what it looks like on Dvorak. I am typing on the Dvorak layout. I don't think that one is better than the other, but I do find the different patterns on the keyboards interesting.

Woah I think you just gave me a huge tip, I tend to be extremely aggressive when I type at about 90 to 110 WPM and the extra unnecessary movements slow my typing and accuracy down a lot, but keeping my hands as close to the keyboard might just fix the problem. Sure it'll take some time to get used to, but that'll help me a lot, thanks! Edit: A year later, I can now consistently type at 160 wpm. Nice.

We're two completely different people. My accuracy and speed are inversely proportional. The problem with how I type is that my hands are too close to the keyboard which I always try to adjust to get my maximum speed. Please wish me luck, Your comment was 3 months ago so I am expecting you to be way faster now. P.s I joined the 100 wpm avg only this month after 5 months of inconsistent practice

I wsa never able to get past the 90wpm mark on qwerty. Switch to dvorak 8 months ago and can now reach a consistent 110wpm with heights of 130wpm. It took around 3 months to get to my qwerty speed. Overall I would say it's my preferred keyboard layout. Learning it also helped me get rid of some bad habits that would hinder type speed. The downside of dvorak is loosing the one-handed CTRL+C/V. The one-handed dvorak way of copy paste is CTRL+Ins (copy) and Shift+Ins (paste).

You are on the right tracks, most important tips I would say is 1. don't ever run behind getting high wpm, just focus on ur typing and try to maintain >97℅ accuracy. Also don't get bothered if you feel u are stuck on a wpm, just keep practicing properly and the speed will come by itself 2. Maintain a good posture. This is really important since I've been experiencing neck and back pain from bad posture. Google up the correct posture for typing

  • @andy54668

thanks, this let me get a brand new pb. I was going as fast as I could, and getting an accuracy of like 96. but i took it slow, got a pb, and 100% accuracy. you should take it slow, and speed it up slowly. accuracy is more important than speed. if i went full speed and full accuracy i could get about 10 wpm higher, but i just cant. so take it slow, and practice getting it right, and then you will be able to go faster.

My average right now is 85-90wpm I really wanna get to 100wpm. Watching this I think I already can type 100wpm maybe even bursts of 105-110wpm but I can never keep the consistency. I ALWAYS mess up and it shoots me down a lot, I usually get the best scores when I slow down a bit and build up my speed but I can never get to 100 doing that, I have to get lucky to keep the consistency.

same here. i have been practicing really hard in quarantine and have improved from 80 to 90wpm. I think typing at 100% percent accuracy is more impressive and consistent. So i just train accuracy.

Okay, this is probably going to sound controversial but Dvorak is less comfortable than QWERTY. Keeping my fingers on the home row hurts my wrist. Because QWERTY isn't as "home row focused" it works better for me.

  • @NoThisIsJohn

Interesting. I haven't heard anything like that before. How long did you practice Dvorak? Anything will be less comfortable if you're not adjusted to it.

@@NoThisIsJohn I practiced it for about a week. Couldn't continue because how uncomfortable it felt. I learned the Russian keyboard layout about a year ago. Didn't experience any discomfort then.

  • @AshSeaGull

    @AshSeaGull

Ian Silent this is the reason. Because you’re so used to QWERTY, doing something different is straining your wrists because they aren’t used to it. I read an experience where someone was uncomfortable in the first week but after that they started to get used to it and the pain went away almost completely. You just have to have more discipline and it WILL pay off in the long run.

Ashton Gullion all of the conventional “knowledge” about this stuff is wrong. His fingers aren’t uncomfortable because he’s not used to it. Your fingers generally want to stretch out more and the fastest letters are actually in the middle of the top row where your fingers can stretch out the most. If Dvorak had designed his keyboard layout so that top to bottom in the center the most used keys are there and the lesser used ones go further out top to bottom in order of frequency then I think his layout would be used much more widely.

You didn't even watch the video properly and instantly jump to make a comment bruh. Did u even look at the live keyboard activity he provided at the bottom right? Yeah no. It's the DVORAK layout and that's why most of the keys he presses are in the home row, so it doesn't look like he is moving his hands so much and hence your ignorant comment.

I can type at 60-70 wpm while looking in a completely different direction than the keyboard, even thinking of other stuff. But because these tests require you to type their words I get 60-70 wpm results while looking at the keyboard. If it's not coming from my head it's not gonna be fast. Also, I once typed at well over 250 wpm, I was in a game and when the admin asked why I was afk I typed "hold on, I need to go to the bathroom brb" instantly. as in, 2 seconds tops. Anyway, I don't feel a need to prove shit to anybody, I was just gonna say I'm happy with my speed and you should be too, no matter what it is.

I type at the same speed basically but I make too many mistakes so I end up at 72 WPM max. It's frustrating, I have learned to type in primary school, now it's 10 years later and I'm still not that fast. I know where all the letters are but I press them in the wrong order all the time. I feel like so many people are just very fast naturally and don't make mistakes just from typing normally. I wanna hit those 100 WPM but for me it's just a hard grind
