Idea for upcoming video: How do you preserve your collection? Steps to protect books...and how do you deal with humidity and older books that may have mold/mildew (not horrible).

I don't know a lot about preserving books, would a humidor work to keep them dry?
And here I am reading all my first editions casually and had no idea they have value
To all my collectors , I’d highly recommend looking for an old book shop/library, most of the time you could find a rare gem in there, and the owners of the library may not even know what they have.
This video was so informative. I’ve been collecting first editions for over 10 years. I had no idea that I purchased a first printing of Order of the Phoenix. I actually don’t mind newer printings of the first 2 books, as having them only say Rowling and the year number on the spine makes them look uniform on my shelf. I had also never noticed the spelling error of Sorcerers in.Chamber of Secrets, I’m so happy mine has that. Also THANK YOU so much because my first HC of Sorcerers Stone was a book club edition I bought used, and I thought I was going crazy when I needed to replace it and the boards were purple and red instead of black and maroon.
By the way I know they aren't valuable or popular but I have some pretty old Harry Potter sorcerers stone, chamber of secrets, and prizoner of azkaban printed in '99 that we're my first serious books I've ever read. I remember my mom handing me them on Thanksgiving 2001 and freaking the crap out. Even today as the pages crack and are Browning I still cherish these copies.

LOVE that and totally jealous. I only have my original Prisoner of Azkaban. Not sure where the others apparated to. Harry Potter was the first serious book I read as well. :D DEFINITELY cherish those books.
Am I the only one that wants these because of how cool the art is not because it’s rare

I have this set. Well almost. The only one I don't have is Chamber of Secrets. It was a different edition when I bought the set. I really need to replace my Sorcerer's Stone too because I have read it so much it is falling apart. Might use the book for scrapbooking though. I want to do 7 complete scrapbooks..1 for each book/movie except Deathly Hallows would just be one like the book and not the movies.
Yo i love harry potter book , next time doing a video please include the year of each first printing of each book , your the best i loved this video
I have a first edition deathly hallows, went to the midnight release at Walmart! I hope to keep it in my family for a long long time!

This was super helpful but I do have to do more research to make sure if mine is worth anything.
I have a first edition first printing of Chamber of Secrets, but unfortunately it is a book club edition
I keep my books laying the other way so the spines don't get messed up! I learned it from some antique collector video lol just sharing it ❤️

Where did you get the clear protector sleeve for harry potter book?
A very informative video. A question I have is what is the approximate value of a full set of American first editions? Also what is the value of the books published by Raincoast Publishers?
This is such an interesting video! Had to pull out my hard covers to see what I bought (at the time they were released so many years ago). I have all seven first editions with only four books as first printings. When we moved, book 4 received a tear on the cover, which upset me so much but... what can you do? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Love this video!!! 🇺🇸
I had no idea I have two first editions in my house. I literally remember buying The Order of the Phoenix and Goblet of Fire at a Garage sale when I was a kid. Didnt think much of the value then I just wanted really any HP book! Holy cow it is cool to have treasure
I have the first printing of prisoner of Azkaban,Goblet of Fire, and Half-Blood Prince and the others are the new printings

I have first printings of the American edition for every book but Sorcerers Stone and Chamber of Secrets
My 1st Ed. GoF USA is on my night stand holding up my Department 56 Hagrids Hut... which I use as a night light. 🤣
When I started reading Harry Potter the first 3 books were already out. Luckily for me Harry Potter wasn't a household name back then. I remember the book store I got them from only had around 10 Harry Potter related books in total or even less. I was already in my 20's but I just couldn't stop reading the books. The rest I pre-ordered them as they were released via Borders. All my books are 1st American editions but different and long runs. My only regret is that I placed them in front of a window and over the years the sun faded the vibrant colors of the spine (dust jacket and book as well). As soon as I noted that... I took them of from the shelf and kept them safe but it was too late. I'm just lucky and happy to have all 1st editions. Also my Azkaban book was printed in Mexico. Also... where you got the book protectors from. I need some for my books.
Omg how have i not found u earlier
I just bought all the books used on eBay. I got the first American edition sorcerers stone!!!!
Have a 1st print of Prisoner of Azkaban, my dad was gifted the first three books for his birthday right after the release of the 3rd book so it makes sense :)
I wish I could at least have one of your Harry potter book collections😥😞❤
I have one that is a first edition but the school gave it to me because the teacher was moving rooms so now I have this old messed up harry potter book, it has the green fabric as well
Interesting Peter.
My favorite HP covers ever are American ones by Mary GrandPre, and even more fav than British original covers. And I really like those Serbian editions on the shelf, makes me a bit proud when I see them. 😀

I am in awe of your collection. I would die to have those. I'm curious is the basic colored board less valuable than the diamond pattern board?

The Potter Collector I appreciate your reply. I have a 4th edition with diamonds. I am looking for a first printing to go to my son's collection. :) I just read an article that stated that the basic boards were " readers club editions" and so I was a tad bit confused. Thank you once again for clearing that up. From my research I "heard" the reader club edition isn't as valuable, but I'm a book eater by nature so ALL of my books are valuable. As a mother it is my honor and duty to give my son an early love of literature and if my pockets allow the very best of that. I'm teaching him young about book collecting.
I found a copy of the philosopher's stone where I work, it is a first edition but it is only a 13th printing - would it be worth it to buy it at the used book store that I work at for $3.99 USA money? Does the 13th printing have the errors found in earlier editions?
This is very neat, from this information I only have first editions of book 5 and 7. And 3rd edition of 6 somehow. Books 5-7 are the ones I bought at release. Book for is edition 12 and books 1-3 are in the 40's editions. I didn't get into the books until the first movie came out and the 4th was recently released around that time.
@ThePotterCollector
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! :) Technically, you have first editions of all of the books. What you are referring to is the printing. So for example your Goblet of Fire book (from what I am reading) is a first edition 12th printing. An edition only changes when there is a significant change to a book... like new cover artwork or a major plot change. The printing is what you want to be aware of when it comes to value of a book.

If I had the CoS w/ the misspelling of the 1st book's title (Sorceror's) does that make it more or less valuable since it was an error caught early? I never realized it was misspelled until you pointed it out!
I have mine purchased at 1 set hardcover Books 1 to 6 : book 1 to 3 had price of $22.99 on cover and book 4 to 6 $29.99. printed with First American Editions too. Bought this set from Grolier International.
Where do you buy the material to preserve your dust jackets?
This is completely off-topic but my favorite Harry Potter book edition is the Harry Potter Hard Cover Adult Boxset Made in 2015. I find the "neon" colors to look so amazing! Also, the box it’s contained in is also amazing. Lastly, I love that you’re helping people with this kind of stuff since many people would make big mistakes and be confused. Now, they have a source to learn from!

All of my books are first edition except the first one and ofcourse I wrote my name on them and the date I got them lmao. Plus I won't sell them. My brother wanted them and I was like nope. They hold value to me.
Of the Sorcerers Stone, do you know what the differences are in the content of the actual bookin the first 4 print runs, if there’s any at all? Also where do I find how many were printed during the fourth print run
Hello New subscriber. Do you collect also Harry Potter US edition first paper back book set? Can you show those paperback book set and box also.
We ordered 1-5 from Scholastic book club. So have the black 1-5 first editions. She wasn't done with #6 at the time.
There’s so many Harry Potter covers. Does it matter which set I buy? I like the traditional American cover you show off in this video.

The Potter Collector Thank you! I’m so exited to starting reading this series. I found a thrift store site where I can get each book for $4. What’s the difference between buying the book individually versus the set?
I have the Harry Potter and sorcers stone with a purple diamond cover with red around it and it’s price was 19,95 dollars and inside it says printend in U.S.A 10. And under it it says: First american edition october 1998. Does someone nows What This means?
I have an old paperback copy of the sorcerer's stone from my dad. Its in terrible shape from all the moving we have done. He did have the other books (I have a glimpse of a memory of him getting a harry potter book I think from Walmart) they have sadly been lost.
I wondered this hey dear Potter Collector are there transparent plastic slipcases on these books officially (1,2,4,5,6) or you put these.
I got the american edition year 1 but the back of the book is just purple and it has some description about the book

Hello! I have US books 2-7 in first edition hardcover. I was offered $120 for the collection but I wrote my name inside chamber of secrets when I was young. Hey, my first printing Sorcerer’s Stone that I’ve had for years (and cherish) has all of the important points and is is fine condition but one thing that’s always stuck with me is that the raised lettering for “Harry Potter” is slightly offset from the gold foil. I know it likely doesn’t help the value ..not that I’d ever sell it… but I like to imagine it was such an early printing that the presses weren’t properly registered yet. 😂 Things I tell myself.

I walked into a second hand books store who had a policy of $8 hardcovers and $4 paperbacks. Bought the entire hp series hardback for $60. Turns out 5 and 6 were first editions. I know they’re not worth a lot but im still going to pass them down. Who knows maybe my grandkids can cash in one day
Did Azkaban have an alternative state printing where there was no "Year 3" on the spine?
Hi, I have multiple copies of what I believe are first edition Harry Potter books. I'm just a little confused about some aspects that make it first edition. Where it says, Printed in U.S.A. does it matter what the number is that comes after it? Most of mine say 23 but I noticed yours were different. If you wouldn't mind helping me clarify I would really appreciate it.
