WHAT TO EXPECT | Throat Cancer | Radiation Treatment to cure my cancer | My Reactions Day 28-32

I have throat cancer…once I was diagnosed I wanted to know more and found that KZread didn’t have anyone documenting their journey. So i am going to do that in hopes it helps someone having to deal with this.
My throat cancer journey will be different than everyone’s however the process of radiation therapy is basically the same. What’s not the same is the severity (stages of cancer) being treated and the physical effects vary by person.
Regardless this is my story. For everyone beginning this journey, during or after … tell urself just one more day.
For those who want to follow my treatments subscribe and follow.

I am a 73 year old woman and I finished my treatments for throat cancer on July 29th. Keep a postive attitude no matter what. I am healing. Lost my taste buds making food impossible to eat. I lost about 35 lbs. Have a feeding tube for nutrition. I am now starting to eat food through my throat. Some taste is coming back slowly. I will not lie it was not an easy thing to get through. Just decide that you will get through it and keeping a better attitude will help you achieve that goal. IT IS DOABLE. Everyone reacts diferently. May God stand with you during your treatments.

my dad went through 35 rads and 5 chemo and finished on October 1st. Not good so far he is back on liquids. went on feeding tube 3 quarters the way through. We could use any advice about swallowing. He's off the tube in Dec 2023. and then he's going back to liquids. Any advice would be helpful. Wow what a horrible mess. My dad is 77 and will be writing a book about this and That FUCKEN HPV VIRUS CAN fuck itself in the ear!

I’m 70. I just hope I can bear it the way you did. I also hope you are doing well post treatment and hope you continue to make videos. Terry

@MrJr669 I had 35 for T4 base of tongue 3 years ago..Still here..but only just ! Currently sporting tracheostomy after massive life threatening bleed 6 months ago..but due to be removed this Monday...total nightmare of a thing. My abiding memory of radiation treatment was that mask - I'm claustrophobic or at least discovered I was after the first fitting of the mask - I nearly hit the roof when they clicked the last few buttons into place - it was so tight I could barely twitch my nose and had a massive spas out...massive as in try to tear the whole machine asunder. When I say I thought I would be phoning my family on the first actual radiation day, from the departure lounge of Dublin Airport,I'm not kidding.35 sessions later and I've no idea how I did it but to say it was an enormous challenge each time and no amount of xanax helped.Id have needed a bowl of them washed down with a half bottle of whiskey. But the staff were amazing although when they saw me entering the room at around number 10 I'm pretty sure some of them were wishing me a premature heart attack..and I didn't blame them 1 bit. My cancer is gone but the meaning of cancer is not just the cancer itself - its more complicated...radiation,especially high doses, leaves its legacy and can go on for a long time.I haven't had a day where there has not been pain and discomfort and much has to do with radiation. But I always spare a thought for those that had to go through treatment with a more ambiguous prognosis. My prognosis was good in terms of getting rid of cancer. There are those that have to go through the brutal treatment all the while being unsure of the outcome. I salut you. I'm 58 non smoker.

Congratulations, seems like you aced the radiotherapy! Your videos are very helpful, as the few that I can find on this, the patients really had a hard time. I guess it depends on the location of the tumor and our own body's reaction to the radiation. I think, in your case, it was lucky your body had the initial reaction. It seems like the prednisolone helped a lot.

i have the port for the chemo treatments and the feeding tube also. The port even though they tell you blood tests can be taken from the port no one would take it from there. Because of the chemo I had to go a few days before every chemo treatment to get a blood test taken from the vain in my arm. That decides if you can get the treatment that week I only missed one because I had a fever. Again every one reacts differently. Except for my body rejecting the feeding tube radiation and the kind of chemo didn't effect me much. My pain came from the infection caused by my rejecting the tube. But that is normal for me. Most people have no problem with the feeding tube or the port. I am a hard case. I finished my treatments on July 29 for the same cancer you have HPV. I am starting to eat by mouth this week and expect to get the tube out next week. The thick saliva caused by the damage to your throat by the radiation was the worst for me. I am grateful it stopped shortly after radiation stop. Our type of throat cancer has a very high cure rate. Remember that when you get hit with any of the side effects they tell you about. Mine were tough but not as bad as they could have been. I concidered myself blessed. Wishing you a speedy recovery

Everything went well. My last treatment was February 22nd. My oncologist really socked the radiation to me during my 29 treatments. I'm feeling super fatigued still. I was told to expect that for the first year. I never took any steriods or any pain medication. I didn't even need the magic mouthwash. I am on a medication to increase the blood flow to my neck to keep the soft tissues from hardening and it makes me a little nauseous. I have my next PET scan in June to make sure the cancer is gone. Drove me to appointments when necessary, shopped for me whenever I needed anything. Helped around the house because I was so tired. But there is light at the end of that gloomy tunnel! It is a very curable cancer. Just remember that! I finished radiation and chemo on July 29 and am healing enough to be able to eat by mouth once again. Take all the time with your family and enjoy your life may it be very long full of great thing and most of all happiness. Your video did help me to see what i was to go through. I have HPV-related throat cancer and i will start my treatment this 15 of November to the 3 January 2023, 7 weeks the Radiotherapy would be 5 straight day and off on the week-end and during this 7 week i will have 3 chemotherapy of 8 hours each. Tomorrow i go to the hospital to instal a Portal system this is a small medical appliance that is installed beneath the skin easy to connect a catheters for the chemotherapy and blood samples can be drawn many times and drugs can be injected. On Thursday i will get a gastrostomy tube inserted through the belly that brings nutrition directly to the stomach in case i won't be able to eat due to throat pain. I would realy like to know what did help you the most for the pain ? The pain was it way worse than a angina ? Did the pain wake you up during the night ? Again thx for this video you did about your treatment. May you never have to go through this again and may you stay cancer free and live a long life, May God bless you and your family. Man...what can I tell you that wont give you false expectations. I can say there will be times in a day and at night that you will feel great and times you will want to sleep the pain away. Its not always extremely painful and knowing that gave me comfort. That said I found that this entire experience is a metal and physical challenge/game. So what really helped with the pain was controlling my mental state. I took the approach that the pain is going to be temporary (the physical part) and that the worst might be yet to come (the mental part). I tried to compare the worst pain I ever felt or could feel... like having my arm cut off without pain medication.. to downplay the physical pain by telling myself there is worse pain in life. So basically I would feel physical pain and mentally compare it to the worst pain I could think of and when I did that the pain didn't feel so bad. Some times I told myself how am I going to last when I have weeks to go...and every time that happened I would mentally tell myself its only a small part of your life deal with it and don't be a baby. I would say to myself other have done this...you got this..it will be over quick and that in the grand scheme of things this is only a couple months of your life. On the other side of the treatments...I appreciate the details more. Seriously, just about everything in more detail and with more appreciation than I ever had. I would hear people talk about oh its so hot, or I have to go to work and basically complaining about day to day things that are annoying and (justifiable things to complain about) but when you going through this you will think how could any of those things matter when your going through cancer treatment and you think to yourself those things are so trivial compared to this. And I though how lucky they are not to be me right now and how lucky they are to just be concerned about the small stuff in life. Try to not be mad at those people they don't understand. That said I also got my will in order and I wrote out letters//videos to my wife and kids for different events in their life just in case. I will never know if this comes back or show up somewhere else but I do know I will be ready that is mentally helpful. Also its lonely at the top. I relate treatments and this journey to being lonely at the top. I run a business and all the decisions good or bad are my fault. I cant call someone and ask their opinion because they don't understand all the details I know to make the right decision. The doctor is just guessing how your body will react physically and how you will handle it mentally but they don't really know. Nobody will have the same reactions that you will have good and bad. I can tell you nobody can ever know what its like for you. I wanted to let you know its ok that nobody is going to relate to this journey and knowing that hopefully helps you have peace with that though. I don't know if ur a sports fan but one thing I told myself is that I am in the Super Bowl/World Series of my life and knowing that I am going to win and in order to do that I need to do everything I can to do. Rest when needed, take medication, go to treatments basically whatever it takes and the key is to do everything you can at an elite level so u can win the Super Bowl of ur life. Its a mental and physical journey... I wish you a quick and easy journey!!!! I will keep you in my prayers and your family.
