For me as a very new barely V2 climber, I actually LOVE it when someone sends the problem I've been struggling with. I just sit back, watch, and steal the ever living shit out of their beta lol. I've also found that most people are more than happy to give you tips if you see them send your project and go up and ask them for advice afterwards. Has been a great way to meet some of the regulars at the gym as well as learn something new! (Not saying I ask them to coach me through it, just more a "do you have any tips for X move").

Yeah it's perfectly okay to go up to someone and ask for help, but if they were telling you what to do without you asking them, it could get annoying quickly

Yeah, just yesterday me and my friends got force-coached by a girl who was obviously a much better climber than any of us. She was so happy to share her knowledge, repeating boulders just to show us, and it got a little annoying. It probably didn't help that she was like 8 years old.@@namyak-bf9od

In a crowded gym it’s impossible not to do this occasionally. When I warm up on V2-V4 I can’t take into consideration if some newbie thinks I’m a duchebag because the climb he’s struggling on is part of my warm up or a drill like 4x4. People get offended too easy by this.

Most people do like that. But it's usually with friends, or after already successfully topping the boulder, or after deciding that it's too hard or they need help. Going up to somebody who is still working on a problem and trying to help them is none of those things.

The common denominator for all people I've met who progress quickly is to climb more than two times a week. When you're completely fresh it's probably just not possible because of physical limitations, but within the first 4-6 months I believe you can do this, I did 3 times a week after about four months. People who climb 1-2 times a week don't seem to progress much at all from what I've heard, I'd love to hear other experiences. Be ready for plateaus. When I hit 6C it felt like I hit a long plateau, before suddenly sending 7A in my first year. I sent 7B in my second year. Climb because you like it and because it's fun. Chasing grades will burn you out. Good friends will support you and motivate you. The people who do it for the joy of it last the longest from different pros etc that I've talked to about this. Edit: I have to stress the importance of listening to your body, spacing out your exercise, and resting. Did you miss your two hour session? Don’t do four hours the next time. Does your body hurt a lot? See if you can delay your schedule a bit for more rest. I chose what I do based on how I’m feeling. If everything is hurting and I still want to climb, I do some easier stuff.

I've been climbing for about 4-5 months and i actually started out climbing 3-4 times a week. I had to take it down to two and then start taking periodic rest weeks because ive developed tenosynovitis in my fingers and tendonitis in my wrists from overuse/fatigue. I did progress super quick at first, but then i got injured and i haven't sent another 5.11 since even though I did three before. i hope this injury heals.....

I do top rope and pushed myself to do a 5.9 for the first time because I loved the holds! Didn't think I would get far but got a quarter of the way up, it was near the end of our session so we plan to go back and try it again after warming up! I don't plan to finish it but want to try getting halfway! I'm at a solid 5.7 and pushing myself at 5.8s. We top rope about once a week due to the gym is an hour drive, but love it!

My first solid year of climbing I was complaining that I wasn't at the 6c level like my friend. But then I took a look back and realized I was going only two times a month and stopped complaining about it. I just needed to go more and put more effort in instead of relying on my perceived "nAtuRaL tAleNt". I've been going pretty steadily for 10 years and haven't gone above 7a.

I just started bouldering a couple weeks ago, and it's so cool learning techniques in these videos and applying them to boulders I couldn't do last time. I learned about laybacking up a corner in a Magnus video, and used it to break the beta on a boulder I had no idea how to complete, and stumbled across the intended method at the same time, which I also learned in a video but really didn't expect to use. You're meant to push off backwards into a body jam, which explains why the finish was just a flat rock that you couldn't jump to, and there was nothing else anywhere near it.

If you see someone struggling with a boulder and you wanna help, you can always ask them nicely if they need help, or if they wanna do it on their own. That way nothing wrong can come out of it. A lot of climbers were happy when I offered some ideas, and accepted the help, and there were a few that wanted to try a bit more and solve the problem on their own. Offering help is a nice thing if you ask that they need it. Just make sure not to start giving your solution without their permission. Also, some gyms are pretty full so you cannot avoid climbing the same routes as others, because there are queues for each route.

Have been to the gym only 5 times yet and it's been awesome. Good timing for this video to come out. I would love to do some outdoor bouldering too, but I think in Germany where I live it's not really legal unless on rocks specifically designated for it. I also think while there is a lot of outdoor sport climbing, there isn't much outdoor bouldering to be found sadly.

But even there it's mostly sports climbing routes. I quite literally live a one hour walk away to a place called boulder valley (roughly translated) but I can't legally climb there as it is considered a natural monument ("Naturdenkmal" in german) and they want to preserve the rock as much as possible... who knows, might do a sneaky climb there at some point

Oh this makes me feel so much better. I normally top rope and tried bouldering recently and was thinking it was kinda weird that big guys would come over and send the easy climbs I keep falling on. I'm still dealing with my fear of heights without a rope to fall on. Every time i'd see one of these guys it was so obvious they weren't warming up and normally do harder problems.😂Now I can feel better internally barking them off my V1s.

  • @lucasdegamers

My advice to help with your fear of heights is to force yourself to jump of every boulder you finish, this helps build a familiarity with the falling. if this is still to scary you can start by always jumping of when you climbed halfway down then slowly build up to jumping down from the top.

Then do a jump above you at a 45 degree angle all the way to a 200 degree angle. I’m still at v2.

I’m on month 11 and have about five v6 climbs under my belt. Already booked tickets to Helsinki for month 12. Stay posted.

I started to climb 9 months ago. I am not sure if I like climbing that much but I love to sit under the boulder problem I already finished and annoy people with my advices. Best thing about it is that I can do it even when I am tired or injured! I did not see whole video because I got tired, but I recomend that all the people here because it feels so good!

That’s so sick you’ve done 1,2 punch. I rarely get to see climbs I’ve done in KZread videos

I hate when I’m mentally prepping myself for a climb just sat near ish to it and then someone goes on and fails because then I feel like I can’t go on it until they leave or after they’ve started trying another one for a while 💀

I dont know how gyms place holds differently but I recently went bouldering for the first time with a friend who I would consider pretty good (he did a V6-7 I think). For me I dont really have good grip strength but I was able to do a V3. The odd thing is, every V3 start in that gym was extremely hard. Like I felt comfortable starting on some of the V5s but some V3s I could not even start. Any thoughts on this?

0:33 The type of guy who can miss all the boulders but hit the hardest for the win. That's why we love the church.

I actually prefer to watch people climb a boulder I'm struggling on, I've learned a lot from watching others. Also a lot of people are appreciative if you offer them help.
