I have been trying to connect a soundbar to my TV for 2 months now. I followed the manual to the letter and watched a lot of youtube videos. Nothing worked. The supplier of the soundbar was no help - basically just told me what was in the manual. Then last night I came across the video. I disconnected the HDMI 2.0 cable and used an Optical cable, thenI changed PCM to Bitstream and turned off the TV speakers. Then tried the soundbar and It worked - FIRST TIME! I could not believe it - your solution was so simple and easy to follow. I am very grateful for your video - thank you very much - greatly appreciated!

Hello Thank you for the video.Quick question for you, my Soundbar Subwoofer combo bye LG was working and is hooked up via an optical cable I heard a quiet pop sound and the sound cut out completely I have checked the optical cable and the laser is projecting from my TV I also tried a brand new optical cable still no sound. Any ideas help would be Greatly Appreciated! Thank you. : )Tyler I forgot to mention the speakers seem to be working fine when I connect them via Bluetooth for example to play music. The LG unit is only about a week out of the box.

I have this same cable set up. I was getting sound through the sound bar, then it just stopped. I've tried these different configurations, and still nothing. I'm considering returning the sound bar to best buy. Maybe the bar is defunct?

My dad got an Element 43” tv and the sound would cut in and out constantly and today I got him a 39” Visio tv and it still does the same thing. Any idea why both are doing this? He never had this issue with prior TV sets.

Jeez - I had no idea this would be so complicated. We bought a Samsung this year and just assumed headphones would work with it. No - so I bought a soundbar and can't get that to work, with or without headphones. Really feel bad for my mom - she has hearing loss and can only hear the tv using headphones. Can't find the list on that site you linked but I will try your tips. Thanks!

Thanks for the video but it disn't work for me. I ended up doing a factory reset of my SmartTv to fix my problem. No idea what is was, audio settings are identical after resetting as far as I can tell.

Hey Mabel you can help me with my Samsung sound bar connected to my Samsung tv both are about 2 years old If Iam watching with my cable box and I pause no matter how long I leave it paused when I un pause it. The sound comes back on but when Iam watching Netflix or any other programs after about 5 minutes when I un pause it I have to turn the sound bar back on with the remote I hope I am marking it clear as to what I am talking about it is very frustrating thanks.

I had a different issue. The sound bar I've been using has been working fine for years, then suddenly it stopped playing sound. I had to either switch the source back and forth or turn off the tv and turn it on again to get the sound bar to play sound. It's been a bit odd to say the least. No idea if it's the sound bar having issues now or the tv itself.

I have a 2010 Mitsubishi Unisen 154 series TV attempting to connect to a Zvox AV 203. Contacted Zovox prior to watching your video, similar suggestions no results. I have tried all of your suggestions, again no sound. Zovox controls appear to work, tried connecting to a newer TCL still no sound. Tried going to the sonus web site only to find it no longer operational. I hate to purchase a different bar if the problem is with the TVs, or is this just a lemon ?

My sound bar’s volume level won’t go above 1. When I attempt to raise it to let say 10, it automatically goes down to 1.

Great video! Helped me connect my Vizio soundbar to my new Sony TV. The optical cable hookup did not work and our Sony does not have RCA audio outs. I never would have thought of the 1/8 " headphone jack out of the TV into the stereo RCA of the soundbar!!! Bravo and thank you

My tv LG has nothing called pcm nor the other one you talked about in video .. so unfortunately still can’t use soundbar with Netflix or hbo which is what I wanted it for .. any help would b greatly appreciated

Interesting. It worked for me. I've been using my soundbar x 2 years without it fully working. Did not work for Netflix, etc. Worked for KZread and a couple others. Go figure. You must go to AUDIO SETTINGS on your TV. Change audio from AUTO to PCM. It activates soundbar all around. Hope that works for you. If not, one other option is using the RCA (red/white) connection. Good luck.

Hi all. I have a Hisense TV and i cannot figure out how do get sound from the t.v to the soundbar. I can get the sound from bluetooth devices into the soundbar, but i can't get teh tv to play through the soundbar.

I'm having this problem but the thing is that it worked yesterday and this morning but now it's not when I just turned it on?

This was very helpful. My Vizio needed a couple of additional steps. Audio (PCM, Fixed) then I had to go to CEC - Turn On, and do a discovery of devices. Thanks for the video (still relevant 5 years later :) )

Bought a RCA 38" Sound bar for a 42" RCA TV made in 2015. The Tv does not have the first option plug in U start off with, But has the RCA ,Audio left,Right Down under the Composite Plug ins. I tried connecting TV to sound bar That way, Red/white plug to sound bar and same to TV. NOTHING , But when I plugged the Red/white plugs into the back of my DirecTV Box sound comes out great. Which Would be fine but I use a Firestick So when I switch Inputs I have to turn off my sound Bar and Just use The Tvs Volume ,which sucks. I think I am going to buy the RED/WHITE plug on one end and Headphone Jack on other end to plug to TV. Hopefully that will allow all sound from Tv to go through sound bar. I even tried Bluetooth(Tvs Not bluetooth) But I turned I put it on the Bluetooth option then turned Bluetooth setting on my cell phone to see if a option to connec t to it would show. No go there.. Not sure why The RCA TO RCA plugs wont work when plugging into the TV, But will with the Box. Not to mention Sound bar and TV are same Brand!

Be certain the soundbar is set to the input you connected. Also, some TVs require you to enable an external speaker with the TV audio settings

I have a Samsung TV with sony soundbar. When I watch a blu ray on my xbox the sound is weird. I can turn off the soundbar and lower tv volume all the way and I still hear through the TV it pisses me off. So no matter what I do I always hear the sound through the TV, so when I turn on the soundbar I get a nasty ECHO. please help mee!!

American horror GOREY maybe mute the tv like with the remote or in the settings on your t v it shouldn't have audio if the t v is muted Hope that works for you when I connect my sound bar I have a similar problem and the echo is so annoying so I can relate to this

Hello, My components are: Samsung Mu6300 tv, Bose solo 5 sound bar, PS4 Pro and Samsung Cable Box from Optimum cable service. Ok my problem is when I connect the Bose sound bar directly to the tv with the optical cable I don’t get any tv sound but I do get sound on the PS4. Now if I take out the optical cable from the tv and plug it directly into the cable box than I get sound on the tv and now No sound on the PS4! So what is the solution? FYI , a technician from the cable company is the one that unplugged the cable from the tv and connected it to the cable box to get sound. We didn’t test the PS4 before he left and when I called the cable company they said they can’t help me with the PS4 not having sound now because it’s not there product. P.S. my old cable box worked great with the setup ( I plugged the Bose into the tv’s optical port, the cable box was plugged into the tv via hdmi and the PS4 was also plugged into the tv via hdmi. I don’t have the old cable box the cable company is discontinuing them. Thanks 🙏

Hello, It does pass sound through the port, everything worked perfectly and with a straight forward setup when I had my old cable box from the cable company. When they sent me a new cable box which is a Samsung cable box I only could get sound from my PS4 and no sound from the tv. When the optical cable is connected directly to the cable box I get tv sound but no PS4 sound. The cable company said they can’t help but they caused the problem.

I connected Soundbar to TV with HDMI Cable (ARC Port) & Set Top Box to TV With HDMI Cable, Tv channel worked good. I Connected Pen drive, music worked good, But when using KZread on TV with soundbar, the sound cut after every 4 seconds. I Checked without soundbar, KZread works good with inbuild TV Speakers, but not with soundbar. I Called Service centre, They checked and saying TV is already upgraded to latest version but my TV not supporting to soundbar, so replace TV. My TV Model is "SONY KLV-43W752D" Year=2016 & Soundbar is "Sony HT-S20R 5.1 Channel Dolby Digital Soundbar Home Theatre". Do I need to connect "Optical cable and remaining ports with cables too with HDMI"? If you have solution plese suggest steps. Thank You....

I had to turn the sound from english (5.1) to english (original). It played sound on the main screen but when I went in to watch it the sound wouldn't play.

I had sound and I unhooked PS4 from tv and hooked up XBox and it won't work anymore

Heres my set up and problem...older sharp aquos tv about 8 years old. Optical connection from tv to bose 700 soundbar. Hdmi connections from uverse cable box and sony dvd blurayplayer with smart apps. Heres the problem...uverse cable box works great sound and video. Dvd player on the other hand only video no sound from player or its apps like netflix or youtube. Tried switching hdmi plugs for the uverse box and dvd player, no change. Video only from dvd player. Have tried every combination of audio settings in the tv and the dvd player and nada. Help!

Does DVD have optical out? If so, have you tried to connect directly to soundbar to test if sound occurs in that configuration?

If when connecting your DVD player directly to your soundbar via HDMI and you then hear sound the suggestion would be the issue resides within your TV not passing the DVD's Audio output through to the soundbar.

Turning off and on the tv and soundbar helped me.
