We are three Orthopaedic surgeons trained in India and now working in and across the UK, with lots of help from friends, endeavouring to provide the help we lacked during our training.
Through this KZread channel, we intend to provide practical answers to day-to-day questions, those which are not found on any website or pamphlet.
Right through our medical education and career, we’ve strongly felt the acute gap of having consistent guidance and mentorship. Our goal is to address this by providing exactly that, right from the nascent years of medical education right up to the point of becoming a true professional.
Our vision is to help budding doctors develop a broad perspective of opportunities, provide key information to maximise and improve results and help realise your dreams.

There is no defined "route" to fellowships in the UK. You may apply to those posts that open up and can be found on the NHS Jobs websites and hope to get shortlisted for the interviews. A strong CV and a good recommendation always helps !! Senior clinical fellow is a designation that is as the name itself suggests. The details depends on the job description but tends to attribute to a "Fellow" post !

I’ve read a lot about how a 4-6 months gap in your CV affects the chances of getting a job if one were to take up the PLAB route. Is it the same with MRCS route? Does it matter at all if I were to take a break to prepare for my entrance exam and if I were to take up the MRCS route to get into UK a few years from now?

The GMC registration is a series of steps and documents that one must arrange and those are listed quite clearly on their website. Thank you for the suggestion though, we'll try and do that soon.. I'm unfamiliar with the recognition of your Vietnam training with the GMC but I suggest the best and most reliable way would be to email the GMC directly.

Do take time to understand the system before you decide on an exam - If you’re considering MRCP/MRCS instead of PLAB, check first whether it is even required for your target specialty. MRCP is only required for specialty training in medical specialties eg. Cardiology, Neurology, Gastroenterology. It is not required to enter training for other specialties such as Paediatrics, Psychiatry, GP, Ophthalmology, Surgery etc. This seems to be a common misconception. Make sure you know your training pathway so you don’t take unnecessary exams. MRCS is required for most surgical specialties. It is not required for Obstetrics or Ophthalmology.
