shes about to start uni again. SHE IS THRIVING
Advice from someone who has done 2 uni degrees: Do bring more glasses, crockery and cutlery, but dont put them all out in the kitchen. Keep some in your room because your stuff WILL go missing/get broken/get used by housemates and not washed. So it's good to have spares. Uni lecturers talk way too fast to take hand notes... use a laptop and remind them to upload their ppts on to the system so you have access to the information after the fact. Ear plugs are essential.

Is typing really that much quicker than writing by hand?
@mayalittleliar
3 жыл бұрын
@@terilyte3152 for sure, it's usually a lot of content to get through as well so it's difficult to write it all down in a way that is legible. Plus you can type whilst still looking at the lecturer, so you dont miss stuff. Not as easy to do that whilst hand writing
@kathrinlindern2697
3 жыл бұрын
@@terilyte3152 Depends on how the lecture is structured and how you take notes in general. If you have to take notes in math lectures - where you basically have to copy all the boards, at least at my uni, because there were no handouts our ppts - you will have to take them by hand, because formatting matrices or integral signs in LaTex or something just takes too much time. The same is true if you have to write down anything that is not just plain text - which happens a lot when you STEM subjects, I would say. So it would be useful to either invest in an IPad with ApplePen early on or to just take notes by hand. And if you type, please make sure your keyboard allows you to do so relatively silently, otherwise it gets quite annoying if lots of peoples keys are clicking all the time...

About the note situation...I preferred to handwrite my notes. They were usually sloppy and I would always rewrite my notes so I could decide what I needed to clarify for myself. That said, my method isn't for everyone so I say do what works for you. I have a bachelor's, master's, and doctorate....finished my doctorate last year. Never took digital notes.:)

if you don't bring anything else...bring slippers. slides, flip-flops, fuzzy house slippers idc. you will not vacuum every day. you will not want to put on shoes to wander around the dorm building. ESPECIALLY if you have roommates, triple especially if even one of you has long hair. just. slippers.

I took 4 glasses to uni and only ever used 1 - depending on what you drink in them you can just rinse between uses (but obviously wash them properly as well regularly) I’d say if you’re a hot drink person, take one glass and multiple mugs, but if you’re a cold drink person take a few glasses and one mug. don’t be wasting your kitchen space it’s precious 😂

Definitely the amount of stationery you need depends on your course. I did maths and I used loads of paper, because I had to take hand-written notes. Doing digital notes is not possible for maths!
Ruby makes autumn my fav season with all her hygge and uni videos. Love you Ruby thank you for changing my life! xxxx
I found that getting a lot of my homeware things secondhand was really helpful since you can find some of those long-lasting items pretty inexpensively if you aren't able to buy them new! Like most of my cooking stuff was honestly from a thrift store (I made sure to disinfect all of them SUPER thoroughly first of course!) and it saved me tons of money
I’ve just had a little watch marathon of your uni videos to get me motivated for going back to uni🤣 you’re honestly saving me Ruby! So thank u👏🏼💗
I honestly have been loving your videos so much! 💛 You're like a bright ray of sunshine on a gloomy day! 🌺✨
Friendly reminder: If you are a lazy person, bring the least amount of dishes ,forks and cups (etc) as possible in your dorm.Or else they are going to end up like a huge pile in your sink. And noone likes that.

I've started my first year this year, but online ! Thank you Ruby for your videos, you remind me why I love learning whenever it's most needed :) ❤️
I really enjoyed this! I’m also in my 3rd year at uni now so watching this made me think back to how I also way overpacked for first year, an amusing trip down memory lane for sure :’) I love your content Ruby! ✨
Ruby you've grown so much in these few years, you genuinely seem like such a lovely and bubbly person to be around!
I've recently found your KZread account and I love it! I guess many people have already told you this, but you have such a soothing voice!!
I was just in the shower, wondering when a new Ruby vid would be up, and I came out to this... perfect timing!
Ruby, your buying advice is just like my mom's...She always tells me to buy something little pricier when buying multiple use items like winter coat towels bedsheets crockeries etc and my stuffs always last sooooo longer..not having to constantly buy same thing over and over again is such a relief..
I feel like i've grown up alongside you, thank you for being such a fantastic influence on me. You're brilliant!
This made me realise just how much you have grown (and me with you) in these past years. I ve loved you then and i love you now 💕
It's so cute seeing how much you've grown up in the last two years! 😭❤️
RUBYYY THIS OUTFIT IS SOOOOO CUTE I LOVE IT
Don’t stress if you over buy, when you live by yourself you’ll appreciate the extra aesthetic stuff you bought.
Ruby i want to tell you something... I used to be very unproductive earlier but after watching your channel i have really improved. You are like an inspiration
I'm beyond uni but still watch Ruby's videos because the aesthetic is just everything!
Ruby it is so lovely to see you. Looking back, it is hard to believe you are now in your third year of university (even though second year of your course)! Where has the time gone??? You are still just as sweet and lovely as pre-uni but you have also grown so much as a person as well! We sincerely hope your English Lit. excursions continue to fuel the fire within you and, even with corona still happening, you have a wonderful and ever expanding in knowledge, growth, experience and understanding academic year. Massive hugs! 🌹 and the gang
Ahhh, 12 more days!!! I am very excited for uni vlogs!!! x
I never realised I would need a video like this! But here it is, so thank you Ruby!

I’m sooo with you on the lights and darks situation... I just shove all my washing in and hope for the best and nothing has gone wrong so far 😂 Honestly though Ruby this video is such a mood, I did one of these and the amount of RUBBISH I bought with me to uni was ridiculous 😭

Hi Ruby, Always keep waiting for your video release. Such an inspiration you are.😘
Ruby! This is your best video yet - I'm studying a graduate degree so don't really know why I watched this but I LOVE how you come across in this video!!
Ruby I so glad you again uploded a video for motivating me. Thankyou so much. I would like to wish you a very happy teacher's day.
I’m starting uni a week today and I love candles and I also bought a set of 3 led candles for my room. My room is a studio like yours in first year and I’m so excited 💕
omg this is a much needed video!!! I'll be going to uni this october~
My top kitchen tip - buy a roll of coloured electrical tape and tape the ends of your cutlery, your mugs, base of your plates etc. Then at the end of the year you know what’s yours to take home! Even better- assign a different colour to each flat mate especially if you all bought the same set of cutlery
I am nervous for school but something about Ruby’s videos make me excited and less nervous for school.
To add to the tupperware, I really recommend oven safe glass tupperware. You can get it quite cheap in TK Maxx, and it means you can make like lasagnas and things in the oven, and use them as food storage in the fridge, AND use them in the microwave! It's also really hard wearing, and I use it to help transport little bits and pieces to university. ETA: Also Towels! I bought a really cheap set of 4 towels in the factory shop before 1st year, and they work fine but they're pretty thin and I think they're going to get holes in them fairly quickly. I'm going to use them as kitchen rags once that happens because they're not awful. However during the summer before 2nd year I bought some really nice flannels and 2 lovely plush towels from Dunnes while visiting my grandmother, and they're so plush, so absorbent, and so high quality, even though I didn't even spend that much more on them. The best thing someone can do for themselves if they can afford it is buy really nice towels, because they'll last ages and just add a nice bit of luxury to your day.
As a nervous and excited first year, I've never clicked so fast on your video 😄✨
that digestive cookie plushie behind her is EVERYTHING💜

i completely agree with getting slightly more expensive stuff that you know will last if you can. You will probably save money in the long run when you look at how long they last. When it came to going to university I bought more expensive pots and pans which I hope to use well after uni too and I definitely do not regret it
I actually bought an ironing board + iron during my second semester because I like to iron certain pieces of clothing and hate it when they're all wrinkly. But if you don't feel that way I'd agree with Ruby - especially when your room is rather small.
Oh my god Ruby's book 📚 shelf is over flowing 😉😁😁
Ruby. You are really a study queen 👑
I graduated this summer but still find these videos interesting and weirdly relaxing to watch! :)
This was so useful I’ve just got some things for my 2nd year but after watching this I’m getting the ikea jar for my oats, exercise mat, shower cap, coasters and some door hooks as my hanger too didn’t fit through my door. 😁✌🏼
Hey Ruby I‘m really excited to watch your vlog where you read 😊👍🏼in this month
It was so helpful And your content is so unique
When are the planners going to be shipped? I ordered mine on the 17th August and I don’t have it yet. I hope it comes before school starts!
I have that same measuring glass! I used it more as a shot glass on college than for baking but now I live in my own house I find it useful for liquid measurements as well
My biggest tip is buying cutlery with distinctive handles. Everyone in my accommodation had silver cutlery which meant you couldn't distinguish between them. I could never find my ones. After Christmas I bought some with pink handles and it was so much easier!!
Me encantaron las partes donde Ruby decía “bueno, realmente esto no fue necesario”. ❤️❤️
Well done Ruby, very well made. Love you! X
I bought most of my kitchen wear from Wilko and ikea and my towels from Asda. I personally find that items from those places last a long time if you look after them properly . For example , Asda towels, if you wash them properly will last between 5 - 10 years. I also think the reason a lot of people buy things cheaply is because when they have shared kitchens or are inexperienced in cooking it doesn’t matter if they mess up or if someone else damages their items. I found that my items last a long time because I looked after them and used them correctly . I also couldn’t afford to buy from more expensive places!
The slow-mo for the tea drinking 😂 "and that's the tea!"
Ahaa ruby is excited for her university :)
Ruby you’re amazingggg 🤩🤩
On the note of being more sustainable - getting spare kitchen utensils from family & friends or/and buying things from charity shops helps! :-)
Omg Ruby you are such an inspiration and I love your vids am going into year 9 but still love your vids
Such a useful video! :) Strong minimalism vibes
You are such a organised and productive person..always a source of motivation..🤗 (Btw, studytuber here ..🌟)
The investment point is so true!! I do that for things like shoes and coats. A good coat can last you decades AND a good, sturdy pair of leather boots (I'm talking cold seasons). I'm from a village and they've always told me to buy something expensive upfront that lasts you for years (and leather goods as well. vegan leather is plastic and non-biodegradable).
I am going through a heartbreak right now and your videos somehow calm me down. I am also passionate about studying and will do masters in England next year. Maybe I am lucky enough to see you one day. Thank you for the positive vibes💗

The drying rack you put on your radiator was extremely usefel when I was renting, with roommates, so I didn’t have to hang my socks and underwear with everyone else’s (they also tend to fall over when people are walking past)
Ruby! I love your videos! ♥️♥️
crazy to see how much you have grown in 2 years!
in terms of kitchen stuff, if you're in a shared kitchen, things just disappear or get broken. so definitely don't buy expensive, investment stuff (eg, £5 spaghetti strainer) if you have a shared kitchen. it will be a wasted investment when someone else breaks it or it disappears.
Well I m a graduate but still love to see your videos about back to school and back to university

As an Aussie, I'm that jealous of everyone else starting uni soon, e.g. UK and Russia. I still have to wait until Feb... :( I can't wait any longer! Btw, thanks for the vid. Definitely holding onto this.
I also took a mini iron and iron board when I moved to London and its completely true! I've never used it, if I need it to iron my shirt or uniform for work I was using the one that was in the hotel changing room😅
“YES, oh my gosh, FAKE candles...” 😂😂
As for ironing: please check in with someone year above or accomodation officials to know what stuff you're provided FOR REAL. Of course if you are not just renting a room in shared flat where the landlord will not provide you with any extra stuff. But even if you're not provided with ironing stuff you definitely don't need ironing desk. Use your regular one, just cover it with some layers of towels and/or bed sheets. For hot water bottles: save few plastic bottles in first month in campus and use them.
