Another banger vid! Great segment on filleting the catch, sockeye should never taste “fishy” and will not if you spend a small amount of time to scale and get rid of the slime before filleting. And great point about NOT rinsing the fillets!! Maybe a gear only video on what you use for your rods and reels so people don’t have to experience what that guy did when his reel broke. We invest time and a lot of gas money to get to the river, spending an extra $50 or so on a rig will payoff!! Thanks-Ron

Oh man this trip was stellar! It was nice to get on a comfortable spot and fill up our stringers. We definitely consider the catch to be some of the best food anywhere and treat it so. I’ll be sure to touch on our gear and tackle selection a little more in some upcoming trips. ADFG just raised the limit to 9 per day! As if waiting for a spot to open up when fishing for 6 wasn’t long enough already!

Very very little drag. Usually just using my hand as a brake to slow the fish down. Too much drag can pull the hook right out of the fish or in your case, snap the line.

The ferry stays open longer but the access is about to get VERY limited to the upper river. You may want to check the regs on the day that you go. adfg.alaska.gov.

It works good for all kinds of things and is comfortable. They’re not cheap, but you do get what you pay for in this instance.
