Not really. It's rude but not technically assault. Assault is threat or attempt to inflict offensive physical contact or bodily harm on a person (as by lifting a fist in a threatening manner) that puts the person in immediate danger of or in apprehension (see apprehension sense 1) of such harm or contact compare battery sense

Tourists must realize that these guards are British Army personnel doing this duty and are not there to be ridiculed and they are not there for amusement, this is the Horse Guards Parade establishment and these duties have been carried out for years. So please show some respect.

Where do people go up to people standing around in “costume” ? At theme parks. Where can soldiers be approached ?? Maybe this used to work fine. But everyone knows what theme parks look like now. And this looks like it to the person not knowing what this is. How , how are they supposed to know ? And I don’t mean the language barrier, but that would add to the misinformation.
I'm so glad the guard elbowed that disrespectful man, what is wrong with people now a days? They show no respect. To all the guards I want to say I respect the job that you do and I am an American.

The guards are not allowed to talk to the people unless it is to say yes, IF they ask to have a photo but that does not happen very often.

He asked, "No touching?" like the guard was a museum exhibit. People come to see these historic places, but have no knowledge of what they really are. If you go to another country to visit, read, Google, or YT it and get a clue.

Unfortunately these tourists think that this is a show just put on for them, which makes them feel justified in their rude actions. They don't realise these soldiers would be doing this job, whether they were there or not. They should put up a perimeter around the area so no access to anybody just the soldiers and police. Let the tourists take photos from a distance.

I have been watching these videos for months. I am bedridden, and I when I could still walk we visited in England, in 1996 and 1998. Not only did we see the full Change of the Guard,at Buckingham Palace which is a wonderful spectecal, we also saw these, at that time called the Queens Life Guards. I cannot believe what these tourists do. Do they honestly think these Guards are there for their entertainment. I am deeply disturbed that they have no regard, openly displaying the most disgraceful behaviour! I am so glad the Guard reacted so strongly!! And then the idiot tourist asks "what did I do wrong??". Really, are you serious??

I think the guy that got handsy with the King's Guard did so out of ignorance of military tradition. That, and he was just plain stupid... But, I did get a good laugh out of his "what did I do?" expression. So, for all the people that haven't served in the military (no matter the nation or branch), let me make it simple: DO NOT TOUCH A SENTRY ON DUTY! And this includes the horses!
This people need to learn respect .

Where are the armed police? I thought they were supposed to protect the guards. It's about time this rude, disgusting, disrespectful behaviour from the tourist towards our Kings guards and horses stopped, it outrageous our soldiers have to put up with this every day. Explain to the groping tourist that touching isn't allowed, and if he/she gets nasty with you, the guard will likely signal the police in the area. (The guard will also probably silently cheer you for saying aloud what he wishes he were at liberty to say!)
Even kids aren't taught to say thank you for the free pose. Manners to!

Touching the horses is allowed. Touching the reins is NOT as it is the way of controlling the animals. The guards and their horses serve here as a tourist attraction - that is their purpose (not all the time obviously!)
Never saw a single tourist saying thank you ..I admire these guards n their patience ..God Bless them all

I’ve watched several of these videos. I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone actually ask the guard first if they can take a picture with him and definitely no one thanks them after the picture has been taken. It’s as though they honestly believe these guards and horses are characters there for the tourists entertainment. Honestly, it would still be rude if they were characters if the tourists never acknowledge them.
If someone swears at a cop let alone touches them they are arrested and possibly jailed. Why not our armed forces??? They put their lives on the line for us and yet get treated like shit. Did everyone else see the man in black touching his helmet???

1 September is the best day of the year. Most of the tourists have returned home to their hovels, farms and trailer parks.
Won't be long the Guard will decide to stop having this beautiful regal display of horses and guardsmen due to rudeness and lack of safety. And many will still sit back and wonder why. Sad.

I've watched a bunch of these videos and still wonder what goes through someones head that it is ok to grab the reins of the Guard Horse. You also don't need to touch the horse to get your photo taken. Again, respect the Guard and his Horse. They're "On Duty".

I can’t understand why people want a picture next to someone that has no desire to take a picture with them?
Some tourists seem to have more respect for characters at a Disney Theme Park than they do for these fighting soldiers.

I have noticed that there are certain ‘ cultures’ of people that are the worst offenders. If they tried to pull that crap with their own military, some of them would be shot. It is NOT OK, anywhere, to DISRESPECT anyone’s military. And if they think the guards are rude by yelling at them or moving them away, they need to remember… their ONLY allegiance is to the king…NOT YOU ! Period
The British Royals could put an end to that type of crap tomorrow but they won't. They care more about the tourists and their cash flow than they do about the Guards and their horses!
Sadly, it doesn't shock me! Things are escalating from day to day, as people are intentionally seeing how far they can push these guards, whether on their horses or standing guard at a post. It's gone from annoying to utterly absurd! It bothers me that nothing is being done to stop this. 9:21 - Another ignorant person touching the reins because she's not supposed to! It worries me that the next step is attacking one of these guards, or having something on their hand that the horses nuzzle, that can harm a horse. It's become a bit nerve wracking to watch these videos nowadays, which is sad, as I love these videos.
At least some of them say Thank You that was nice to see for a change
Need to make it that no one touches guards and horses, period. If they do, they will be arrested, no ifs or buts.. no kids acting like it's a petting zoo either!
Did anyone else notice the jerk who took a swipe at the guard's helmet or plume as he walked out of the tunnel at about 2:20? He shook his finger walking away, hope he hurt himself.

I think he touched the sword.....they are razor sharp
Then there was the guy who touched the tip of his sword and regretted it…why would you do that
It's a shame that more people don't say Thank you to the Guard. That stupid man should have been dragged away by the cops.
I’m sure some people think they are there just for the purpose of taking photos. But that man crossed the line when he touched the guard, and into the bargain he was too stupid to realise that he did wrong ❤❤🇦🇺🐨🐨🇦🇺

I feel for the guards, it’s bad enough for the guards on horse back but the poor souls that are on foot and have to stand when idiots are messing about around them must be frightening, especially with them having a sword out of its holster, with the threat of attack all the time.
Frankly, I think it’s intrusive to just go up and stand beside anyone, and photograph them. I thought you had to have permission before photographing anyone!
Much respect for these guards!
