As a Chinese mainlander, I find this fascinating. I live in Europe and have met some Taiwanese friends. There's some sort of unspoken rule between Taiwanese and mainlandes who want to hang out together: you don't talk about politics. Nobody forced the "rule", it just happened naturally. Growing up being taught that "Taiwan is part of China", and I always know that Taiwan wants to be independent. But I never heard that "China is part of Taiwan". I even burst out laughing when I first heard it. Because come on, are you serious? The "China" that has stood there for thousands of years, belongs to an island? But hearing the two ladies explain it in the video, I guess I see the logic behind it. When I was younger, I would defend the logic that I was taught, because that's waht you grew up learning, it's part of your value system, it's part of YOU. But now, I just wish whatever logic it is, it can make regular people's life better. People are what matters, not ideas.

Those two ladies logic are totally flawed no matter which way they explain it, So because the KMT came first with the Republic of China and they think is the rightful government then Taiwan will still be a part of China and not the other way around, it's still part of the constitution for the Republic of China in Taiwan right now isn't it? Car number plates in Taiwan says Taiwan province.

  • @chirich572

Taiwanese of a certain generation did indeed grow up being taught to think of the relationship between China and Taiwan in terms of an unfinished civil war, and in fact, Taiwan held the UN seat as China until the late 70's. So the twisted logic that made you laugh is just as fantastical and ridiculous as (albeit the flip side of) the one China feeds its people. But the difference is, that kind of propaganda ended in Taiwan in the 90's when one party dictatorship ended, and freedom of speech and press allowed for diversity in media and education, thereby enriching public opinions regarding the China Taiwan issue. The sentiment articulated by the two ladies is no longer the majority opinion held by the younger generation as a result. The same cannot be said about China.

Also if i'm not mistaken, the #1 option is always rather not choose one side and alienate the other #2 option is choose US, regardless of whatever including economy, because self-determination is that important.

Interesting series of interviews, but I have to call out that the caption translation has a number of inaccuracies. There are a lot of times when interviewees respond with 大陸 or Mainland China, while the captions simply say China. There are subtle but significant differences when you reference Mainland China vs China, as the use of the term Mainland may assume that there is a broader China, of which the Mainland is a part of. Additionally, there are times when interviewees responded with 主權, or sovereignty, while the captions translated it as independence. There are huge differences in those concepts. Maintaining sovereignty and declaring independence can mean the difference between peace vs war, respectively. I'm not usually one to nit pick translations and captions of KZread videos, but when it comes to such a sensitive topic where the doctrine of whether or not a world super power goes to war is predicated on subtle linguistic expressions, these slight inaccuracies can really convey a significantly different view to viewers who are not familiar with the complexities of cross-strait relations.

The largest trading partner of Taiwan Province of the Republic of China is still the mainland of the people's Republic of China (using the definition of the United Nations). As far as I know, the current government has revised the teaching materials, deleted many parts of Chinese traditional culture, and no longer considers itself the Republic of China. This is an act of seeking change. This change may lead to bad results. Peaceful coexistence with the mainland over the past few decades has been conducive to Taiwan's economy. The current government is following the footsteps of the United States, hostile to the mainland and limiting many trade activities (such as medical resources and chips), so the mainland has resumed the normal quarantine of agricultural products. This is actually detrimental to economic development. But many people simply attribute it to one-sided reasons. I hope the final result is good.

I find that most Taiwanese have a wrong image about how close trade ties with China are. Taiwan's trade with China is almost three times that with the US. If I remember correctly, it was more than 40%. Taiwanese may go to American universities more often, but most Taiwanese do business in Mainland China. 😥 It is a tragedy that the relationship between Taiwan and China mainland has come to this.

It’s not like the monarchy had just fallen and two different systems were fighting to become the new government. The Republic of China was already there. As far as bias is concerned, I do like the Taiwanese government as it stands today much better than the CCP. There is a little bit of just cheering for my preferred team here. But I don’t prefer Taiwan or make that assertion arbitrarily. I also consider the the Republic of China to have a fundementally more legitimate form of government in that it’s representative are elected by the people from the people. The CCP has elections from within the party by the party. The party holds a monopoly on political power and oppress the rest of the Chinese. So, I consider the ROC to have a more legitimate form of government. You’re wrong. The CCP never won the war. The proof of which is that the war is still officially going. I wouldnt be so sure of that. There is always a chance that China will invade Taiwan. If Taiwan doesnt takes its defence more seriously, then they won't stand a chance against a Chinese invasion. You are correct that right now China prioritizes its economy which has been booming but once they are more financially where they want to be, then the next thing they will look to do is to exert their influence in the region. @@JohnSmith-pf1vg I think if Taiwan plays their cards right, they can benefit from the US-China conflict. Their stance should be that they are willing to be in either camp. If they pivot completely to the US, they block off any benefit from a strong neighbor and takes the brunt of any Chinese aggression. And the United States will only interfere if China cross their line, i.e. invade Taiwan. If Taiwan maintain their stance on being the Republic of China and the rightful owner of Mainland China, both US and China could live with that. And Taiwan can use China as a bargaining chip against US and vice versa. The current political party is dead on establishing a Taiwan republic, which means China would never accept them politically. And the United States know that, so instead of US trying to woo Taiwan into joining their camp with benefits, it's Taiwan that's paying the price to be protected by the US. That's just my take after watching the Asian Boss videos. French media never give information but always say an idea there then another idea to brainwash french people, now almost all french 90% french people hate China, after being brainwashed so long time. I realized that the news in french media are all a copy of the US news, french journalists never investigate but always take a part of US newspaper or TV and put it in french media. It's like that in all western countries, and South Korea, India, Japan and other else called "allies", they all copy from US media. No one can trust western media, only going in place to see with our eyes is the truth.

How tawainese describe China is false and it's to brainwash taiwanese people and it works because taiwanese people are brainwashed against China. Exactly like here in France french we are brainwashed against China.

In all official maps, Taiwan is a part of China, both in the constitutions of the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China, Taiwan is also a part of China, the Chinese living in Taiwan call their country the Republic of China, which is also written in in their constitutions and on the cover of their passports. There is no country called "Taiwan" in the world. In fact, the civil war in China that started in 1945 has not ended. Some of the 23 million Chinese living in Taiwan want to split from China, while the 1.4 billion Chinese people Most of them are completely unacceptable. If a vote is used to decide whether or not Taiwan is independent, the party that advocates Taiwan's independence will have an overwhelming defeat. The United States has taken advantage of this chaotic situation and used it to create trouble for China in an attempt to contain China's development, and the current ruling party in Taiwan also regards American military power as their only bargaining chip for survival. The real purpose of the United States is to dominate the Pacific Ocean and block other countries on the mainland, especially China. Because of Taiwan's important strategic location, the United States regards it as a pawn to restrict China. Once the Pacific War begins, Taiwan will surely become a battleground for both sides, and the artillery fire will be ruthless. The United States is seeking the entire Pacific Ocean, and China can only smoothly free up its legs to move forward by putting its testicles (Taiwan) back in its crotch.Westerners firmly believe that as long as they fight against China, they will get good rewards. This is not only political correctness in the West, but it has become a religion.

America is run by conservatism that wants to revert the country to the 1950s while pretending to be progressing forward.
