I notice you mentioned Airy giving the less human lifelike conciousness, but the thing is Airy didnt give them conciousness. The characters from the human world mention that they were previously concious and they hide their sentience from humans, one is even confused to why Soda Bottle has a job because "he would get caught"

Absolutely amazing video, but a few things. 1: You got wrong the fact that airy just gave them consciousness. It is revealed that they do have it, they just don't show it so they won't scare the humans. 2: The reason the show focuses on the main 5 is because I personally think the series was designed to be about them, but with characters with slight other purposes. 3: The reason the 2nd flow of new characters is all bland and personality-less is because as I said before, they are almost always in sentient form, meaning they have no time to develop their personalities, just being simple objects in a simple world. Not interacting with anyone, meaning they don't do anything important that defines them. However, I did see yogurt cup getting at least a little development at the end. 4: I think that the show is meant to be 2 things: 1st, A mock-memoir of real object shows, airy giving the objects names based off of their object because "It makes things easier", simply named buildings, even late release times, perfectly imitating other shows. 2nd, it was meant to give a new view into object shows. If you think about it, a large amount of the characters in different shows are just like "Ok, this is happening, I guess I'm playing a game" when real people or people with actual feelings would most likely want to leave. It puts such a new perspective into object shows, showing how dark they would be if they were real.

I have one major criticism about this video and It's your point about "not using the minor contestants and focusing on the major ones." I feel the show is fully aware about the 2nd and 3rd groups being less important and the show does put It's main focus on the first 5. Reminder that episode 6 only ever showed one team (and one extra for like half a second) aswell as alot of the episodes keeping It's use of the side characters to a minimum. To me the shows sparing use of It's side characters is one of It's best attributes and I feel like there's something one of us isn't seeing. (Though I do agree with some of your other points and I don't want this to seem like I'm claiming your opinion isn't valid.)

That’s a good point, I still think the extra groups were given too much screen time, though. I guess I just grow really impatient when they come onscreen since they do very little for the plot. So even with the relatively little screen time they were given, it was still enough to really bug me. I totally get what you mean, though! Thanks for pointing that out!

While ONE is my favorite completed object show, I agree with what you have to say here. And I got a few things to add here. A big disappointment near the beginning of the show is Taylor getting eliminated. Being one of the first group, it feels like they missed out on character interactions and development by not eliminating one of the second group. There could of been a serious clash of interest between her and others by her willingness to subject herself to Airy's game. And a big reason, maybe that only she saw, that leads her to want to go home (in the show it's not explained why she suddenly 180s her perspective). Abstracty himself, was a character that could of been as big as Stone if used more, but was eliminated quite quickly. To be fair, there is a good reason for Airy eliminating them so quickly, but pushing that a few episodes down would of been a good decision. As Abstracty themselves, even to the characters in the show, seemed to radiate as much uncanny energy as Airy himself. And lastly, while it's theorized that ONE stands for Only Nine Episodes, I definitely think they should of lengthened the amount of episodes Airy disappeared in, in order to show off the development between Liam and the second/third groups. Would of made ONE 9's moment of Liam getting eliminated much more impactful. All being said, nothing is perfect and it's a great show, but I love talking about my interests so that those interests grow!

I think that one, on many levels, is a statement about object shows in general. That's why it breaks so many traditions, that's why many of the new characters seem somewhat lifeless (a complaint MANY object shows get), that's why they're objects at all, and that's why it's small details like upload schedule (another complaint on object shows), lazy names, and more are put in. I should probably point out circle is a reference to BFC by cheesy. You really only get to understand the character by watching through BFC. I think the whole "why are they objects it ruins the world" thing is something I definitely disagree with. Without them being objects the taboo rules, details, and jokes just wouldn't work. I do understand the critiques and really like the video, but I can defend it a bit. ( I know I come off as VERY hateful in this comment but I should say I agree with a lot of this video and agree that ONE could be better. It still is my favorite though lmao)

I definitely see what you mean by that. My argument was more on how this doesn’t make sense for the show since focusing on them just seems to waste time instead of forwarding the plot like most the main 5 characters did. I also stated that using more characters that are disturbing and lifeless like abstracty and folder would have worked in the show’s favor more than the ones we ended up with.

I find Abstracty and Stone very mysterious, but first I want to talk about Stone. Stone knows everything that has, is, and will have happened in the entire universe. Because Stone didn't have a mouth, it was tougher for them to communicate and tell the other objects what will happen. Because Stone can predict the future, notice that he never helped anyone escape, meaning that there is absolutely no way out of the plain no matter what. My favorite thing about Stone is that they added a lot to the lore. In episode 4, Stone writes down the truth about the votes on the sticky notes because they knew they were going to be eliminated. That explains why they were very active within two episodes. Abstracty was shapeshifting randomly in the beginning of episode 4. Before, we only saw it shapeshift into other characters and impersonate them. But here it was shapeshifting into a jumbled mess. You can see that one of the triangles is a large brownish one. I feel it's either Airy, the tree from the challenge, or maybe the whole thing being something that's from Abstracty's world.

I feel like the newer contestants bland personality could be due to the fact they weren't able to develop any, their consciousness was kept to a secret but I mean of that were the case I wish they would have went with some character development with them finding out who they are. Another thing on your point about them being objects. Their are many object shows that branch from the fame of bfdi (one of the first object shows) and created a fandom around it. I feel like One is just putting realism to it. That what makes it so interesting to me. It kind off pokes fun of some of the things that happen in regular object shows like dying which is usually treated as a normal in object shows, another is how they cut off Magazine words while she was about to say something important which is a running gag but is treated seriously in One (although I would also love to see your idea with humans being transformed into objects and compete, that would be very interesting to see) Still I respect your opinions on the show

I do think there is a benefit to having more contestants, since there is only one object eliminated per episode, it gives the characters a bit more time to develop. However, you need to at least give these characters some fun personalities, or other characteristics to bounce off other characters or better yet make them play a role into other characters development or the story, pretty much the only new contestant to do that is stone. It’s true that the show would only last 6 episodes without them, but I would rather have 6 episodes with interesting characters with there own problems, rather than 128 episodes that have boring characters that receive way too much screen time, with some interesting ones sprinkled in. (“Quality over Quantity” basically)

My main qualms with ONE are with Abstracty and Taylor Taylor was easily the least explored character of the main 6, even behind the baby tomato (Charlie?). The only background I remember her having is her name, no occupation, no location, nothing, she deserved so much better. I understand why Abstracty was eliminated so quickly, but even they just felt like ominous for the sake of it, and while it was effective, they could have been better developed IMO. With ONE episode left, I'd like to think that they would fix this, but my hopes are low Update: they did not

The thing with the second grooup, there's a reason they're not fully formed personalities. They never had the chance to gain one. At first they're basically just emotionless nothings and then by the end of Episode 8 they have fully fledged personalities because they've had time to grow and learn what to feel, when, and why. The reason why the others do is because they're living real lives. The two other groups don't have much personality because they have nobody to learn a personality with. If you live a life away from everybody, you never learn how to feel things.

While you definitely made some good points I feel that you missed some nuance because you don't really have prior experience with object shows (I assume). Like how you mentioned them being object being pointless. Because to me it felt like one of the points of the show was to ask the question "think about the implications" when it comes to object shows. The implications like being brought back to life and leaving home. You can also see this in the jokes like the y names one and moments like scentys shattering and soda not being able to dive down to rescue backpack. To me it seems based of the "implications" premise and these moments that next season they'll be leaning into the horror of them being objects much more but they just had to lay the groundwork. Although It isn't the greatest that something requires you to have prior experience to enjoy it. I believe its important to have some knowledge of of object shows to truly critique it.

I think that Bass and Contact lens were both wasted potential. Bass seemed to have a close bond with her human and would obviously miss her now that she’s in this drastically different world, while Contact lens literally saw life through to eyes of a business man. Maybe having Bass’s character more somber and Contact lens as a voice of reason would have been more fitting than, whatever their characters are supposed to be.

i think the reason these characters are sentient objects of a wide variety living these lives is because Isaac wanted to make the characters more diverse/distinct. In the world of ONE, no type of object is considered superior or bullied for what they are, and no type of object is considered unconventional.

I don't really get why you're so annoyed by these 2 "problems". It seems you're just being really nitpicky on something that doesn't matter at all. People like ONE because of it's balance of humour and serious stuff. As the series progressed, it got more serious. This is also my main problem with the OSC, people overanalyze characters so much to the point where "if they don't do anything related to the story, the show is ruined!!!" Why is this even a problem in your eyes? The 12 other contestants add something to the show, not ruin it. It's hard to make more jokes and keep viewers engaged when you have like 2 people on episode 5. Sure, the point of the 12 other contestants is definitely filler, but THAT'S THE POINT. And it's not like they just do nothing, they have personalities. I know your argument said you can't describe their personality, but again, why is that a problem? At least they actually HAVE a personality, it adds something to the show, and it allows viewers to take a break from the serious stuff and look at the others for once. I just couldn't take this video seriously especially in the second half when it honestly just felt like you were pointing out random things that really don't matter for the sake of a longer video. About the 2nd point now, and.. really? "We wouldn't have any of these problems if it was just a human world with humans". Firstly, have you seen the human design? It shows a lot more personality when the characters are objects, besides, I know I've said this many times already, but *why is this a problem*. When you said Airy can put a consciousness in the inanimate objects, that isn't true. When the second batch of characters were introduced in Episode 2, Bassy says they can just do it at any time, so that's not in Airy's control. It's kind of dumb having to explain again that it not being humans isn't a problem, especially since your point about it "not taking itself seriously" literally contradicts itself since, you know, *its an object show*. This review has points, but it's just all nitpicky. I can't understand what your problem is with the show when all your points have no actual point to them, especially since the show is already atmospheric and amazing, just like you said. If there's no ACTUAL problem to fix, then why try to fix it? Besides, it's an object show. OSO also has objects living actual lives in a human-like world, and that's just cartoon logic, not some grand mystery that needs to be solved immediately. You spent more time focusing on such a minor detail than the actual lore of the show. Season 2 will most likely explain everything here and more. Sorry for the long review of the review, but this honestly made no sense.

The points I make in this video are admittedly subjective. I understand that the problems I have with this show aren't a big deal to many others, but they are legitimately problematic for me. The reason why I wasn't able to describe the newer contestant's personalities was because they don't really HAVE any personalities. Some of them have little archetypes, but all in all, they're very forgettable. I can't name a single character that wasn't the main five that had any interesting moments in the show besides some comic relief. I don't think they contributed anything meaningful to the show other than providing filler that mostly just wasted time. I would have rather that had filler that was spent with the main five because I was actually interested in seeing them interact more. I never found the the other 12 to be very interesting besides Stone, Abstracty, and maybe Folder. Other than that, the other 12 contestants were not interesting to me and watching them was not nearly as engaging as the main five. My second point is definitely more unpopular, but I still stand by it. I definitely think the human designs look pretty bad, but I would have rather had bad looking humans instead of a weird, nonsensical object/human world that makes no sense. The object/human world that the main five live in makes no sense because literally EVERYTHING in that world is EXACTLY like Earth, except for the fact that everyone's an object. What's the point in making their world so similar to Earth when everyone's an object for seemingly no reason? I get that it's an "object show" but that argument doesn't hold any weight because when you think about it, this show never even NEEDED to be an object show in the first place. Again, the humans would have looked ugly, but I would have preferred an ugly looking show over a world that makes no sense. I'm okay with cartoony worlds that make no sense, but ONE grounds its world in a completely realistic setting. So why make everyone an object if the world is completely realistic to Earth? That just destroys the world building.

@@crystalcritique Alright I guess that makes more sense, was just leaving my opinions. I personally think none of this really matters and it's a great show regardless, but I can't stop you from thinking that I guess. One thing though is that I'm pretty sure if it was just the main 5, it would be really boring, especially since other characters are kinda essential to making an engaging show, but again, your opinion.

What if they all are objects to show their personality? For example - Backpack is a character that takes a lot of emotion and thoughts into himself, he keeps everything as a secret to not burden any other people around him - Soda bottle is easy going, light, and gets angry very easily. Hence the 'Soda' in his code name

Nice video! ONE definitely has its flaws but it's still an enjoyable show! I feel like the additional contestants were put there to parody common tropes you'd find in shows (on second thought the entire show may be a parody) so in my defense, their addition was justified. However, I agree with you when you say they're _too_ lifelike, and that they had wasted potential and could've been used as a contrast between what is logical (the original 5) and the illogical (the additions). This aforementioned contrast between logical vs illogical must have been the reason behind making the original 5 contestants as objects instead of humans in their own humanized world. Making them humans in the first place would have undermined the logical vs. illogical contrast this show tries so hard to construct, so I feel like it was for the better that they weren't human. After all, this show wants to make us question the morality of object shows and their fundamentally dark undertones, situated in worlds where if you substituted objects for humans the show would be different. It's all about how the characters feel about this, and humanizing the characters is the logical lens to this illogical facade. tl;dr: ONE is a great yet flawed show, it's trying to make us question the morality of obj shows, and this video was well written.

I can see what you're getting at with the universe that the first group of characters is from and how it is very limited seeing as it is similar to the human world with the only difference being that the inhabitants are all objects, and why the characters couldn't just originally be humans turned into objects. But you base this idea off of Airy giving sentience to the inanimate objects from, what seems like our universe. Except Airy actually... doesn't give them sentience. They were already sentient objects back in the human world, and in Episode 2, Subway Seat explains that they have to keep their sentience a complete secret to the humans because it scares them. But I do fully agree on how a lot of the later characters don't have any personality or flare to them, they're just there to fill up spots and so we can have more contestants to eliminate that isn't the first group of 5. Not to mention this move doesn't even make any sense seeing as none of the contestants from the second group actually get eliminated in the show. I do hope they play a bigger role in the next season of ONE, and maybe these problems will be fixed, who knows.

Our world is the way it is because we humans based off literally everything we have created (such as our jobs, our architecture, our everyday lives, etc…) off of how we function. Backpacks were created because humans have arms and shoulders to put the arm straps around. Computers have keyboards because they were built to complement human hands so we can type easily. We have created backpacks and computers because they complement the way humans are. The objects in ONE don’t have shoulders, the just have thin stick arms. The keyboards in ONE don’t complement their tiny stick hands. Those objects seem to only exist because the human world has them, so I guess the object would should too. But that doesn’t make sense for a show that wants to take itself fully seriously like ONE. Those objects wouldn’t realistically exist if everyone in the world were objects.

I didn't like this video when it came out, and even though i disagree with some of your points, i realised a tiny bit ago how much this video helped me. My current big project is called Symbol Show, it's a bit like ONE in a few ways. It includes contestants who live in a normal world who are unwillingly in a competition because of a serial killer maniac. (i am not going to spoil more than that lol, it's a secret :P) It started as a story i was making out of my entries for a camp called BFTGF (it was really fun) but I decided that it would be better if i made it its own show. But it had a lot of the worst of ONE's issues, and this video helped me improve it a lot. The camp entries' story is really bad. And the show was still bad in September when I made a trailer (the trailer was good, but everything else I had planned? not so much.) This critique really helped me with my own show, I tried to avoid the issues listed in it which really helped me sort through my ideas. Thank you :)

The original group is supposed to differ from normal Object Shows and have a group that isn't all happy and friendly. The second group was made to make fun of normal Object Shows and have people that were already friends and super friendly join. The third group was added to make the show feel different, as most Object Shows have objects, not text boxes or rocks or abstract paintings. The third group was also for fun easter eggs and foreshadowing. I heard this from someone in a comment section and they said it was from a Q&A where the creator mentioned it.

The biggest fault when discussing ONE is thinking that it’s a competition show. The competition is the excuse to rip these people out of their lives and into a weird prison run by an insane god. It’s a deconstruction of object shows in general and an exploration of existence and consciousness that works on multiple levels. Ragging on ONE for having objects as characters in a world with objects as objects misses the point in a big way.

You'd think they'd be close - but they're not. The rest of the characters move into frame, and watch Liam from some distance away. Then, some time later. Amelia steps into frame, right next to Liam. To me, this scenes shows just how different the first batches are from the second and third. No matter how long they've been together, Liam and Amelia will always be closer to each other than the other characters.

I think the reason that not much character was given to anyone past the main five is that a good majority of said main five are now out of the game, and there is a season 2 planned. Considering we don't follow much of what happens to those who are eliminated, save for a few after credits scenes and the last episode, the new characters are going to fill the void left by the old ones while we watch the game unfold. Personally, I think this show has very very good character writing. While we don't know a lot about the later contestants, I think that makes them feel real. You don't psychoanalyze someone you're put into a group project with, you just judge what you can of their character through their actions and make a slideshow together. Learning of pasts is something you save for protagonists, and now with a majority of the protagonists out of there, new ones will have to take their place. One thing I felt you didn't touch on enough is the underlying sense of mystery the entire show has. Why Stone wanted certain groups to survive a challenge, who Liam saw in the afterlife, what happened to airy, what the whole point of the plug is, why the grass points at the sun, what the numbers mean. It gives you just enough of a thread that its easy to craft a million theories, but not enough to definitively say for certain what's happening, which is a perfect recipe for having satisfying "oh, that's what that was about!" moments as the plot progresses. It feels like a lot of care was put into presenting just enough info to really keep that mystery going.

I agree with how some characters don’t add much for the show, and are pretty much place holders (not entirely but sometimes they are just there for no reason). But I don’t agree with the Human-like Objects one. (Reason 1)You said Airy could transport conscious, but like Dongo Jangle stated, they had their conscious hidden. (Reason 2) some parts of the object show couldn’t be made without them being objects, since (Reason 1) is valid. For example, Abstracty’s abilities, Folder’s AI-like s behavior, Subway Seat not having limbs, Magazine being unraveled by the air, Etc. That said, this show isn’t perfect and needs improvement here and there, and I am not angry with you for how you dislike things I like. I agree with most of your statements, and you’re (mostly) accurate and canon with your videos.
