One of my favorite artists, world renowned Mike Oldfield, being friends with David Bowie, was offered by Bowie to perform the millennium concert in Berlin cause apparently Bowie wasn’t feeling too good and that was new yrs 1999... David being an avid smoker, makes me wonder if his voice was out at that time.. When he passed, I couldn’t help but wonder if their was any correlation.. I still do..

@@72marshflower15 When you see footage of the guy looking really thin in the 70s he used to look ill, he had a cocaine addiction then, but he overcame it and looked healthy and happy; so I was surprised when he had a heart attack because he looked so healthy. Guess you never really know the harm that smoking and rugs may have done his body.

@Venom Snake But Freddy had way more time given and wasnt struck by Cancer, AIDS is slower in killing you and getting you down to sickness, at cancer it can take long too but it can be pretty fast in getting you really sick and killed. but RIP both of them

God damn, even at his last public appearance he looked fantastic. Always so handsome.

Loved Bowie since I was 12. His music helped guide me through dark days. I owe him more than I can even say. That debt will remain unpaid. Thank you David.

The clip "let's dance" , he just walked into a pub in the middle of "bumfuck" and said do you mind if we film a clip here. He hung around and had a few drinks with the locals afterwards. What a bloke!

Myself & my 2 teenage kids were in Paris heading to London after travelling for almost 6 weeks from Australia. Whilst at the Gare du Nord, I saw a French magazine with Bowie’s pic on the cover. I showed it to my daughter as we’d seen his exhibition in Melbourne some months before. I bought the magazine for her. Only 2 days later David Bowie passed away. So surreal being in London at this time with all the newspaper’s covered with this super talented man & his music constantly being played in stores everywhere. Quite numbing... RIP Mr. Bowie 🙏🏻😢

I cried when he died. He was a big part of my childhood.

I can't listen to the Black Star album because it makes me sad. I remember where I was when I heard he died. My daughter told me they announced it at school. I teared up and I asked her what happened.

I became a huge fan in 71 although I was aware of his music as early as 69. Bought every album he did from that date on almost the minute it came out. I found that every new album kind of had to grow on me. I would initially think it wasn't quite as good as the previous one. It was David's brilliance that eluded me initially. After a few listens I would find the new album absolutely great. Happened nearly every time! When my daughter called me that early Monday morning exclaiming, "dad, David Bowie died", I couldn't believe it. All my girls who I raised as a single dad knew how much I loved him. Always did, always will. R.I.P. David and thank you for making a big part of my life all the better.

I still miss him to this day

People throw the word "legend" around so loosely these days. This man is the epitome of the word. And this could be an understatement.

I have loved him since the first time I saw him in The Labyrinth I was about five years old. His music has shaped my life in so many ways. The world lost a musical genius I miss him everyday. My only regret in life is never getting to see him play in person. Last year we were finally blessed with a baby boy his name is Bowie.

Congratulations on the birth of your son. May his name bless him with many talents and a full and wonderous life.

That is the one word that changes everyone’s life-not only yours but family and friends as well. My Dad fought stage 4 colon cancer for 8years-his primary physician didn’t think he would come out of the hospital. He did, and died at home surrounded by his loved ones 6 yrs ago. Never thought I’d hear the words again, yet they keep coming up...An aunt, my Mom, a cousin.....but Dad is watching over everyone, knock on wood, no deaths from this terrible disease in our family. May his family and friend find joy in his memories!!!

David Bennett Bowie reinvented rock’n’roll in his image. He did smoke filterless Gitane cigarettes, which are like smoking chimneys, but he died of liver cancer, not lung cancer. More likely to his drug intake in the 70s. Who’s to say. Cancers can be caused by any number of things.

I saw him once in Brazil. Unforgettable concert, his voice was even better live, like a thunder. He was looking extremely elegant. He was wearing flip flops, and I never saw somebody looking so sharp wearing flip flops. To me and my friends, was like watching the father of all of us. He influenced so many bands and singers that we love. We felt blessed at the end of the concert.

@@jillybe1873 David Bowie was singing about the young and the socially awkward kids. Plus unpopular kids, and the kids that did not fit into the sexual mold created my society. Especially considering this song was written in 1972.

Met David Bowie at my candy and nut store ‘ New York is Nuts’ in Times Square in the early eighties when he was in a limited engagement of The Elephant Man on Broadway. He came in for Honey Drops for a sore throat and we hit it off, then he invited my girlfriend ( now my wife) and I to the show. The play was sold out for his whole engagement so he put us in the orchestra pit not ten feet from him during the show. Needless to say his performance was phenomenal and what a cool guy, I spent those two months making backstage deliveries of treats to him and the cast during the intermissions.

I feel honoured to have walked this earth as the same time as David Bowie.....gone but never forgotten xx

I guess that's the way to live life - fighting and creating to the very end.

Depends why you are creating? If your creating for other people and working on a legacy then it’s not good but if your creating coz that’s what you love doing then it’s good. But I don’t think Bowie loved it , it was always for effect

I thought of him as a very strange artist and I loved his music. It made me very sad when I heard about his passing. He was one of my favorites. God bless you you David Bowie. You brought joy too my life with you music.

when i woke up on the monday and saw on facebook that he had died i was absolutely heartbroken i cried every few minutes for 2 weeks and stayed in my room watching him on youtube and just crying so much and even now it still gets to me and i cant watch the lazarus video without crying seeing him like that knowing he didnt have much time left but he will never be forgotten

Have loved him since the early 70's. I paid $8.00 to see him perform in 1976 in the classy "Station to Station" era, at the Phila. Spectrum. Now all history: Bowie, The Spectrum, and affordable concerts.

He was one of those artists that always was productive, in his case about 45 years. In 85 I was nine years old and starting with absolute beginners I got to know his music through the years. Apart from so many iconic songs he also has a wide range of musical gems that are not mainstream but really jawdropping beautiful and with a depth to them. I was one of many millions in some kind of shock when he passed on. He seemed to be immortal...

Very few songs/videos impacted me more than Blackstar and Lazarus ...they were so heavy in the wake of his death. To leave a naked and honest view one's own approach to the other side, ...and to do it in style, is so Bowie. Very few things make me cry, but this does every time.

I remember the day he died: I had suffered from major insomnia, I was going to school staying up around 17 hours, I was watching tv 5 in the morning, I came across, "rebel rebel" I decided to sleep rather than school. I still remember that awful morning.

I remember the precise moment I became a lifelong fan and avid supporter of music. I was young and quite sheltered living in a small, rural town. I had 2 older brothers who liked music, but mostly Pink Floyd, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac and the like, and the local radio station played the arena rock of the 70s. It was after dinner, and I was watching some variety show (I wish I could remember which one), and I was half paying attention. Then, this gorgeous man with multi-colored hair and eyes appeared wearing strange clothes and carrying a big guitar. He proceeded to play an extraordinary, haunting, mind-blowing song about the travails of an astronaut who is lost in space. It was mesmerizing! I was rapt, I couldn’t believe this gorgeous man existed and that music was so powerful that it could throw you out of your comfortable existence and launch you into a new reality. It changed everything for me, and I owe so much to David Bowie. Watching him perform an acoustic version of Space Oddity on some tv show blew my mind. Rest In Peace, Mr. Bowie.

I saw that it was remarkable..people often muse if you could meet anyone who would it be..on the musicians side I always thought Bowie..

David Bowie was one kind artist ,every decade he had unique sound , he always very attractive man and good actor .Rest in peace David.

I was devastated when I heard. I found his last videos too painful to watch. I cherish the 2 times I saw him at Madison Square Garden. RIP to a unique and groundbreaking musical genius.

Some of the personal accounts interacting with Bowie makes my personal experience validated. I discovered Bowie as a teen in the 90s and since then his music has meant so much to me. Almost like it was written 'just for me...' as I'm sure many of you feel. I'll preface the next part by saying I'm also lucky enough not to have experienced many close deaths in my family save for a couple. But I've always heard about loved ones who pass visit you in a dream. A short time after Bowie died I had a dream and in it I sat a table to play cards and he was there and exclaimed 'Mr (my last name)...' and addressed me as such for the remainder of the dream. It's not profound but fitting to others' experiences in real life that I would have never imagined... Maybe this was also a coincidence but again, some time after his death I remember explaining on a forum how I came to like older music. I recounted how I heard Space Oddity once or twice in the early 90s (back when classic rock stations were not as prevalent as today) and in a kitschy move I bought a Bowie greatest hits album because I thought it was funny/ironic/etc but it turned out I really enjoyed the music. Sure enough after I hit 'submit' on my reply, sure as shit Space Oddity came on the radio. I've had many coincidences in my life but this was one of the most notable!

Bowie Sydney Concerts: Feb 20 & 21, 2004 ..not 2003 ... he said he owed fans to appear post heart attack ( as he lived in Sydney for a time ) a very stylish performance . Lucky enough to see him 5 times ...highlight the Stage Tour in 1978 ...unbelievable ..

Still thinking of Bowie and enjoying his music and films to this day. I once had a chance to hang out with Reeves Gabrel one night in Cambridge, MA in the early 90's at Toad with Modern Farmer and I remember thinking I could not believe his claim to have played with Bowie when he told me who he was. I picked his brain for anything he could tell me that night about David Bowie and it was a great night finding out some interesting facts about Bowie. What a profound musician and artist Bowie is and was.

I'm still lost but I'm also privileged to be amongst so many Bowie fans ❤. R.I.P. David, the one constant in my life ❤

Fun fact: He also wanted his song Lazarus to be featured in Peaky Blinders Season 3 because he was a superfan. I was only a year old during his reality tour, sadly, but he's my favourite artist and I really wish I could've met him. I miss him so much :(

This man was an icon and I loved this man even tho I never met but always felt a personal connection with him. RIP Bowie you are missed.

I remember watching a tv story from the early '70s, whether it was on 60 minutes or elsewhere, on the David Bowie phenomenon. I didn't know much about him at the time, but remember being amazed at his fanatic fans idolizing him, reminding me somewhat of the screaming girls of the early Beatles days. This was around the time of the Ziggy Stardust period. It got me wondering what kind of guy was able to influence musically this way. Only later did I come to admire his one-of-a-kind creative music and artistry, to the very end.

I saw Him in concert three times. Every time it's been not as the first, but as A time. No one renews his artistic life as he did. David was One and only one, but many like none. When I saw on the web He passed away, I cried. I cried as if for a friend, I cried as if for a parent, I cried as if for a loved one. Because at the same time he died, I realized that there would never be another David. My love for music and arts - and maybe for life..? - wouldn't be the same without his opera. Yes , i seen him in the Mick Ronson years , ziggy & Aladdin Sane years and never the same after that , that was Bowie's peak years , i too saw The Glass Spider Tour , nothing compared to the Mick Ronson years , kinda like Jimmy Page & Robert Plant 2nd album & Mick & Keith

I went one step futher .I was a Lighting operator for him ..He was a true rock star and he played the part real well too ..I worked with so many big bands in the 80,s as I was at my peck in the lighting world .His show was one I will always remember .Chris Simmons ,

One of his greatest moments for me was when he introduced the snowman, gave millions of kids special Christmases ever after.

Bowie was brilliant, just brilliant, in The Man Who Fell To Earth (one of my favourite movies). Then again, brilliance was his thing.

An artist bar none. Bowie made the bar and set the bar; he was always ahead of the times as far as music was concerned. I had the pleasure of seeing his Serious Moonlight Tour(opening acts were Madness and The Go-Go's) and then Glass Spider Tour w/Peter Frampton on guitars(opening act was Siouxie and The Banshees). The Serious Moonlight Tour concert was at the L.A. Colosseum and The Glass Spider Tour concert at Anaheim Stadium. Great performer. A living legend in his own right. May he forever shine (R.I.P).

The song for the Spongebob musical was not that far fetched. He actually did a guest voice character for a Spongebob Squarepants episode. It is so strange to think that he is gone.

Bowie was brilliant....RIP....

He is an artist, he never settles.

He was one of the first artists I felt at all drawn to. It was a tape of Hunky Dory that arrived with a second hand cassette player (for my 10th or 11th xmas) that my Dad traded mechanical work for, that did it. While my friends were wearing tartan and singing "Shangalang'"endlessly, most cooing over David Cassidy while the 'cool girls' were sighing over The Fonz. I was getting hooked on a musical genius, a love that would last 5 decades. It wasn't an attraction for the man, there was never anything remotely romantic or dreamy about my liking him, it was the music and the changes he went through and showed us. Ever since I have had far more admiration for singer-songwriters who show real creativity and independence of trends, who work hard on their art and are fully involved in the process of delivering it, than any flash in the pan artists. He embraced what inspired him in every decade, often completely at odds with mainstream ideas, never following easy trends, always surprising. really nice video, yes we were blessed to live with Bowie in the same time, saw him life. It is really touching, how at the end he was very much aware and almost predict his soon comming death. That is Bowie, he always was ahead of time. He had a huge heart and much love and huge courage- Spiritually he is sitll around!
