The thing that annoys me about Alicent, beyond her hypocrisy, is that show insists on telling us that she loves Rhaenyra. But her actions have been against Rhaenyra ever since the beginning. She started secretly seeing Viserys soon after Aemma died, yes because Otto made her, but she keeps that secret from her supposed "best friend" the entire time. And then she's upset when Rhaenyra is upset over that massive betrayal. Alicent becomes pissy when Rhaenyra no longer confides in her (about Daemon or Crispy Cole), like the friendship was already ruined long before that. And then years later, she's forcing Rhaenyra to present her newborn baby to her, right after she gave birth...like she's in pain, she's bleeding and exhausted...but oh, Alicent loves her??? Like it makes no sense, and that's all before what happened to Aemond and his lost eye. And nothing after that, would imply that this friendship is intact either. So why thr show keeps telling us there's love between Alicent and Rhaenyra, that spark died ages ago 💀

To be fair, Alicent did not demand that Rhaenyra present her newborn baby to her "immediately"; she merely demanded that the child be brought to her. Laenor or servants could have carried the baby to Alicent. I can certainly understand why Rhaenyra did not trust Alicent enough to send her baby to her without Rhaenyra coming along to protect the child...I wouldn't trust Alicent at that point either. But even Alicent would not have any wish to kill a baby.

when the Rhaenyra dragon roars at the beach it is a cry from a mother dragon. The piece of the dragon on the ground was her offspring, he was her child. so, it's both mothers grieving for their dead child

Some have speculated that she's neurodivergent, and while I don't know if that brain difference is canon in the books (as I haven't read them), this show is def writing her as someone who thinks, behaves, communicates and reacts differently, alongside her being able to foresee (or have a greater intuition) for future events (whether she understands them or not). So, she is always different, and we shouldn't judge her by how we would react because we are not her with her very readable differences.

I think at the beginning Alicent wanted Aegon on the throne and the power due to fear of the blacks after that eye accident where they went totally unpunished for maiming kings son. Child lost an eye ffs. She considered Rhaenyra a liar who breaks oaths ( having bastards, threating to torture anyone who says otherwise, swearing about stuff with Cole on her mothers grace etc), who additionaly has psychopathic husband who resolves all conflicts with violence and hates your family, would hurt them one way or the other. She didnt find any support in her husband who was blind when it came to behavior of Rhae ( mainly due to the fact she s a child of Aemma). So through her eyes situation is that nobody protects her children, she is alone and on the mercy of people who hate them and sooner or later will find a way to simply get rid of them. Both sides are valid thats why we love the show. There is no good side and bad side. Both are flawed and understandable.

Yeah there's plenty of innocents on either sides but Alicent is a hypocrite if nothing else. Because just about everything she has used to deslike or distrust Rhae is something she is intentionally doing now that she has power. Rhae was so shameful for fucking Cole before marriage but she's doing it after her husbands death and dare I say the mourning period probably isn't over. Rhae's son's had no accountability but we don't see alicent slicing Aemond and sending his head as apology for Luc, Rhae wanted power and was "usurping a throne" that should have rightly belonged to a male heir but Alicent actually doesn't want that same rightful heir to actually rule but her and her father who are actually hightowers and therefore true usurpers. I guess the reason I deslike Alicent is that outside of the staggering amount of things in which she either had little or no control over, there exists the small part of herself that is her true character and when you look at her genuine (older) she is just full of contradictions.

Yes, but not intentionally. It’s still his fault buts it’s not like Aemond wanted Luke dead. It made sense why Arrax was scared but he could have flew away, he was out of Vhagars sight. Luke’s dragon chose to fight, and so did Aemonds. But pretty much Aemond shouldn’t have messed around.

I could also say the way Aemond was attacking Luke with that big old grandma dragon, he surely wanted to kill Luke. Season 1 Episode 10 Aemond told Vhagar no, and his face was full of regret after he accidentally killed Luke, his expression told us it wasn’t intentional. However in Daemons case it is different. You can’t compare the two and say they are the same situation. Cheese said what do we do if we can’t find him, then Daemon smirks. This would also explain why Cheese was so excited when he found the kids, and why Blood was so compliant with killing a kid. Understand this if Daemon only wanted Aemond then Blood and Cheese would have kept looking for him, and because they didn’t and decided to kill a child it’s clear that’s what Daemon wanted. They cut off the kids head as proof to get paid. Do you know what that tells us, when the act was done they went to take the head to Daemon to get paid. I guarantee you next episode Daemon is going to be fine with it, but he’s going to get himself chewed out by Rhaenyra. It wouldn’t make sense to go against Daemons order and do something else, because they won’t get paid. They’re payed assassins they aren’t going to fk up on purpose.

Also Cole should have been guarding their room. Why do people hate Rhaenyra? What is the reason behind the hate?

Not sure if you guys know this, but, both Rhaenyra and her dragon were grieving when they found the remains. Arax was Syrax’s hatchling. She wasn’t feeling her riders pain, she was feeling her own.

33:23 i really wish tthe book translated well to the screen here because in the books, there was so much struggle like HOURS she offers her life instead not a necklace. in the books, she was forced to choose between her two sons, heir or the second son and she was crying because its really hard but eventually chose the second son because maybe he was too young to understand and comprehend this dire situation and then the torture was blood and cheese chose the son she did not point to, the heir was beheaded and then told the second son, "you hear that boy? your mom wants you to die." Helaena was NEVER the same after that and she couldnt look at her son in the eye anymore. it was so gruesome. darkest of dark. i wish it was translated very well

I don't think Otto's way would have ended the conflict. Killing 1/3 of the royal family with the king's chosen heir , to whom many houses had pledged loyalty to before Visery's death , would have thrown the realm into war regardless.

I mean that girl sees everything, almost like a green seer but she can't exactly articulate or understand her visions. I think she's more than a dreamer. Dragon dreamers do not have mental issues traditionally. Aegon was a dreamer, Daenys was the most famous dreamer but also she was respected enough and taken seriously enough that her father listened to the prophecy and they left. Helaena is treated like a person with a mental disability. She definitely has a lot more going on that probably makes her withdraw like people with autism do.

in the books is not Aemond and it's much worse

Daemon did tell them to kill the boy. when Cheese says "What if we can't find him?" Daemon smirks and it cuts away without hearing his answer. Later when they're arguing in Helaena's room Blood says "He said 'a son for a son' does that look like a son to you?" Which we didn"t hear Daemon say to them so Daemon wanted a son no matter what and realistically knew they couldn't get Aemond so he gave permission for them to get the kid instead. Tbh this scene was hella tame compared to the pure horror that was the book. In the book Aegon and Helaena have 3 children: Jaehaerys & Jaehaera (twins boy & girl - 6 years old) and Maelor who is a 2 year old boy. Blood and Cheese don't stumble upon them but are specifically sent to kill King Aegon's son. They know they can't get into the royal apartments so they go to the Tower of the Hand where Alicent lives and take her hostage by tying her up and killing her maids. They wait for Helaena and the kids since she brings them to their grandmother every night for Alicent to read them stories. Once they reach the room Blood & Cheese kill the guards and tell Helaena that they need a son for a son and ask her to choose between the 6 yo and the 2 yo. Helaena offers her life instead but they insist on a son, say if she doesn't give an answer soon they will grow bored and r@pe her 6yo daughter. She eventually chooses the younger one Maelor, as he's too young to remember and understand what's going on and Jaehaerys is the heir. Cheese says to Maelor's ear : "You hear that boy? Your mama wants you dead" and they behead the older one instead. They disappear with the boy's head through the secret tunnels they came from (The ones with secret entries and exits on the room's walls that Rhaenyra and Daemon used to sneak out of the castle in the beginning of the last season if you remember). Once new guards burst into the room they see Helaena screaming still holding onto the headless body of her son. It's incredibly traumatic for Helaena's mental state as she can't even look at her youngest in the eye anymore after sentencing him to death and Alicent grows incredibly paranoid and skittish. It's for me the most disgusting and cruel act of the Dance. I don't know why the show scrapped Maelor from existence and removed the Sophie's Choice aspect from the scene but whatever..

I am all for team black. Preference by saying neither side has a morale high ground with their stances or the appeal of good people. My choice is purely based on how I like more of the characters on that side, plus they actually feel like a family that love each other.

Rhaenyra promoted simp boy to King’s Guard to begin with. He only has a cloak, because Rhaenyra had a crush on him, and showed him favor. He then gets pissy because she didn’t want to run off with him & get married. He got a little bit of kitty & completely forgot himself. Alicent is just as bad, because she got high & might about morals, and duty. When in reality she was just jealous her dad pimped her out to an old diseased man. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra was sleeping with who she wanted.

They RULE with that Hypocritical Ideology & enforce it all by FEAR & LETHAL AUTHORITARIANISM - just objectively worse overall. But what an interesting Season 2 premier to see a better side of King Green, and absolute anger-revenge CATASTROPHE for Queen Black. It's like they flipped the script a little in this one.

Aegon is not a political headache like rhaenyra since he ain’t committing high treason by putting bastards on the iron throne. He also didn’t marry someone who was disinherited as heir like Rhaenyra. He also didn’t marry someone who is a known murderer who was kicked out of the vale which is one of the 6 kingdoms that Rhaenyra will govern. Legally, politically, n morally speaking the greens r the best option for the realm because they r consistently competent of managing the affairs of the kingdom.
