What summer camp means to this blind teenager

Just last October, a fire tore through the 311-acre grounds of Enchanted Hills Camp for the Blind and damaged more than 20 structures, big and small. It was a trying time, but today our rebuild effort is well under way. And amazingly, EHC staff and community pulled together to host a full summer 2018 season, despite the loss of so many structures.
15-year-old camper Ellie attended EHC's largest teen session ever in June 2018, less than a year after the fire. Here, she reflects on why EHC means so much to her: it's a place where she can relax, learn from other blind people and not have to feel like the "weird kid."
There's still a lot of work to be done to return this historic camp for the blind to its full capacity. Donate to help rebuild Enchanted Hills at www.lighthouse-sf.org/rebuildehc or text REBUILDEHC to 501-55.
