I find that I only wear my luxury around certain people in my life. I find there are some people who are "critical" of luxury shopping. Alot of these people are family so I am careful to show what I have because I don't enjoy being criticized constantly for something I enjoy and work hard for. Thank you for this insightful video!

I don’t like wearing it around people who also could never afford them and they have no idea what it is...I just feel self conscious even though they don’t know. I just feel more comfortable using them when I’m with women with similar bags.

I agree Funny, I usually dress down around family due to judgement but when I’m in the city I wear all my luxury bags, a honestly I never feel threatened because NYC is filled with people from every walk of life and there are many fake bags out and about so we all kinda blend in and most people are too busy getting somewhere to pay attention to my bag.

Being in an online Chanel group I see SO much buying and storing, never using because then you won’t get your full amount you paid when you turn around and sell it. Just completely defeats of having the piece in the first place.

My friend from Hong Kong taught me to bring my bag out in a foldable recycle bag when I want to bring my b25 out out but avoid attention at the subway. Also, during pandemic days, it’s best not to expose luxury bags too much as we can’t sanitize leather easily without damage. When I’m at a restaurant or am okay to carry my b25, then fold up the recycle bag and keep it in my b25. I tried it and it’s awesome!

Great topic! Before I started buying designer handbags, I was buying fur coats after my son became an adult. Well, although, I had seven of them, I would not wear them unless I was going to a show on a nice dinner or wedding because I felt that I could only wear them when I was dressed up. One winter day years ago, I go into the food store to shop. Well, I see this woman shopping just like me in a fur with jeans and sneakers on; and she was confident and looked good. I asked her if she was afraid of getting the coat dirty or damaged. She was nope. She said it's freezing outside and that she always wear her furs when it's cold so she can get her cost per wear. Ever since that day, I started wearing my furs when it was cold no matter how I was dressed, and I also started carrying my designer bags whenever and wherever I wanted to. 🤭

Another excellent video. Not only will you make a great investment analyst but a psychologist as well. Your insights are spot on and I am guilty of two: safety and what others think. I take the subway a lot and my colleagues at work do not wear designer bags. I end up just using my bags on vacation. So many take-aways from this video: "Use what you love", "Every day is special", "Let go of things you no longer love", thank you! I also want to say I love listening to your voice, it is so calming. I would subscribe if you want to start a podcast.

This is an interesting topic and really speaks to me. I actually started buying luxury handbags last yr. (I ended up buying 4 bags 😶). But sometimes I do hesitate to use them. One of the bags hasn't left the house since I got it a few months. (I do plan on using that bag this month tho). Part of me thinks is the fear of being stared at since I live in an area where you don't really see someone carry high end designer bags very often. The fear of using the bag and possibly scratching it is something I definitely need to get over

Rain, the venue, and the type of event are my three main concerns. I’m not taking my lambskin out in bad weather. If I don’t think the venue will have space for me to put my bags ( they DO NOT go on the floor) then I don’t use my expensive ones, and if I’m planning on a few vinos 😉I consider my bag carefully as I wouldn’t want to drop it. I’ve never felt unsafe out with my bags, I live in Sydney Australia. I do not care what others think about me or my bags/dressing up. If they have an issue that’s up to them, I’m living my best life x

This is so very true. Especially when you're male and into handbags. Over a decade ago, still a poor student, I bought my first bag from Furla. 500 bucks. To me it was a luxury bag and I was so scared to use it. Basically haven't used it for 8 years. But as of late I really enjoy this bad a lot, although I own Chanel and LV. Also annoying, when people ask if what you have is "fake".

It is odd since I use my other Chanel totes quite a bit. I think it is the plate that screams Chanel. Which is the best part. I have only taken it out once shopping. I fall into the category of caution for many reasons - mostly to fit it, avoid judgment and help everyone feel more comfortable. Also, the better shopping mall near us has had a lot of robberies. A Saks SA had a gun shoved in her face because robbers wanted a backpack from her car, which she happily handed over. It was filled with crayons, markers and small toys for her grandchild. -I really want to move beyond my fears and insecurities, because I am not using the bags I own and I really want to add a couple new neutral bags. I truly want to enjoy them all. This was helpful. Thank you.

Hi Hannah! Great message and reminder. Use what u love ! Luckily I hv less than 10 lux bags so I only hv one bag for each occasion , so it’s very easy to rotate all of them for me. I cannot afford to hoard so my goal is to stay less than 10, sell 1 to buy 1, or sell what I don’t wear. I also try to get my cost per wear. But I’m Also guilty of feeling afraid sometimes of what others may think, so I tend to not get bags that are too flashy or when I wear them , I like the option of feeling a bit discreet about them. But why ? Like u said we work hard for our money so screw what anyone thinks lol. It’s nice to hear u actually pointing these things that we lux lover go thru. TFS and for the good reminders Hannah. xo take good care.

I have always believed in enjoying what I own. Especially designer items that I invested a lot of money on. As they say "don't let your possessions possess you." I agree with everything you say. I'm also guilty of wondering some times about how I may come across to people when they see me wearing designer bags, but I quickly reflect about most of the things that you mention, and I don't let it bother me at the end. However, due to my profession, there are times when I do have to attend certain events at non-profit organizations and I do refrain from wearing my designer handbags then. What I have noticed though is that as someone who has been a handbag collector for many years, I used to give my bags more wear when I used to buy 1 or 2 bags a year. In the last few years, I find myself more tempted to purchase bags a lot more often, and I noticed that I don't even give myself the time to truly enjoy my newer bags before I'm acquiring the next one. I really liked the video where you mentioned how you have decided to enjoy what you have acquired before considering any more purchases. That is exactly what I intend to do as well this year. Otherwise, I do end up feeling guilty and overwhelmed with my purchases.

I don't care what people think I wear my bags and if they have an insecurity issue or question my purchase I ignore them. It's their problem if they can't afford it, they are just projecting and they are winning when people choose to enable their behavior. Good for you for learning these lessons. Some people will also only buy luxury bags if they know they will be around people who are familiar with it as a social/status reason. That also is a bad reason revolving around what people think. I wear my bags everyday to the grocery store, wherever. Life is too short to bend to what others think.

Sorry so long!! Great points, and I can relate to them all, primarily the safety one as I had expressed that concern before living in the #1 ranked most dangerous city in the US. Violent crime is just rampant here now, so no use having a gun pulled on me over a bag. My usual daily style is more casual than a lot of my bags so I tend to gravitate towards bags that are more casual (even tho still lux) and functional. Size doesn’t really factor in for me as I carry what I need I for that function. Lol on the “too good to use” type thing. I’m pretty gentle with my stuff, but I can still relate to this! Most of my shoes are designer (or Frye) so I wear them daily (Except for Loubs which are dress up only, no one knows what the other shoes are.). I usually also just have on a simple back up wedding band. Except for one, my watches aren’t super costly or they are vintage lux (1940’s-1950’s) that no one know what they are anyways. I think that is part of the fun - discreet luxury…enjoying well made items that no one else knows about and you blend in more easily. To me, some of the “it doesn’t matter what people think” is ok as some of my style can be flamboyant, but I want to be considerate to my company and audience as there are times when I’m meeting with folks that are in a different socioeconomic position or I may be volunteering for xyz. I don’t want my ability to connect with folks to be hindered by my handbag, because whether we have that mentality or not (the I don’t care what people think), the reality is that every single one of us makes judgments about everyone we meet. And fostering relationships and trust with others is more important to me than carrying a Chanel.

Having Multiple Sclerosis since the age of 20, I really never know what part of my body is going to fail next! I decided LONG ago to wear what I LOVE, travel to wherever I CAN, and love each day with JOY! As you might guess, I wear my bags whenever and wherever I choose! I bought them for me and my joy! They are my ‘self-care’ purchases! 😉😂 Your points are excellent and well stated! Thank you! ❤👜❤

i love the look of the lady dior so much! I think I would get the mini if I get one, to use as a date night bag. However, in my area there arent very many luxury bags. In real life I have seen people carry a chanel classic flap once and several lv bags. I just feel like I would be so out of place. But maybe someday...

I used to feel this, not only with bags but with luxury shoes and clothes too. I was always concern that I might look tacky or show off but I got over it and I just use them however, whenever I want it (wear LV T-shirt and Gucci slides just to grab a coffee). Also, I bought a dior saddle card holder last year because I thought it looks good but after buying it, I barely use it and put it back in the box because I’m trying to sell it. Sadly, I haven’t sold it yet. I did sold my Gucci 1955 horsebit bag in Korea (it was still new) I love it but didn’t used it at all.

The only luxury bag I use around friends and family is my LV Accessories. Everything else I only use when I'm with my husband, and only when we're in the city or on holiday. At work and with friends it's Coach/Longchamp ...and some people have raised their eyebrows at the price of those. I've only got a small collection of very classic bags, and I'll not add to it as I know they won't get the use.

I use a luxe bag when I leave home. What are bags really - square leather boxes (in general) with a handle or two that carry our bits ‘n’ pieces. I don’t use public transport living in Australia & mostly drive myself or with husband to places. The pandemic which is still ongoing has removed almost 2+ years out of our lives. Life isn’t meant for us to sit on the sidelines & watch people pass by, enjoy your bags walk tall & be proud. Best wishes from Adelaide; South Australia🇦🇺💐

They went up here in the U.K. overnight. Pochette Metis from £1650 to £1780 for example. I would hope that the quality issues were part of their negotiation with their staff. 150€ per month is quite small as they will only take home a little over 50% after tax. Having lived in France, I’m sure the reduced hours is the big win for the staff. The price rises don’t put me off, but the quality issues do. That feels like The critical challenge for the business. I love these analytical videos and all your content really. I wish there were more people putting out this type of content!

I used to have bags that I wasn’t using, but I realized that 1) If I wanted anything new, I would most likely have to sell something to off-set that purchase and 2) I could focus on adding bags that I would actually use. I’ve gone through two huge edits to my collection over the years and I feel like I get better snd better at picking bags that work for my lifestyle. Im still evolving my style and my life, but who isn’t? I think the fun is having a beautiful collection of bags that you love and use (even if it’s only a few times a year 😉).

I bought my first luxury item - a YSL envelope bag - back in 2017 when I knew nothing really about luxury brands, other than their names. I freaking loved that bag and wore it everywhere (from dive bars to the opera) with no thoughts of what people would think or how the bag would stand up to 'wear and tear'. If i'd known more I probably would have been so much more careful and not gotten so much enjoyment out of the bag, and it actually is still in pretty good condition considering. I try to remember that when I get nervous about taking out my newer bags now, especially the ones I know I will never sell.

That’s how I was with my first luxury bag too (Gucci). When I think back to how much I used and enjoyed that bag, I smile. I think there’s something very fun and liberating about simply using what we love without overthinking it. 😊

The only 1 reason that is keeping me from using my bags is the weather, especially for my bags that are made from delicate material (i.e lambskin/Vachetta). I used to care what others think of me but I grew out of it! You wear what you buy and you do you. There will always be people talking and we should pay attention to the positivity than the negativity. No matter how you dress, wear that bag/shoes and work it; its 2020 😉

Completely Agree on the last point! Why buy a bag luxury or not & not use it? All bags will eventually show wear, a bag is for function no matter what value is placed on it, use & treat each bag equally. As we transition in life, our styles & function of a bag change, so if it no longer fits our lifestyle might as well let someone else use it. For me, my Time & Money are more Valuable than the High Cost of owning luxury or non luxury bags, therefore I learned to not waste my effort in maintaining a collection of bags.(it can be depressing to define my worth through what I own, or chasing bag trends), my conclusion is there is no one right bag I'm just burning my cash away, so I changed my prespective & simplified my lifestyle. I just want to be Content in whatever bag I currently use & not have to worry if it matches my outfits, or if it's the latest trend. I think that helps me Appreciate the little Simple things in my life without the high cost of my time or money spent on things that will never bring lasting joy 😄

Lady dior suits only occation and cloth, i think. Bag looks beautiful herself. Its complicated to explain but i have seen many women wearing her and the bag is not shining and we did not look so elegance as it should be. Chanel and birken, you are always look elegence with any thing you are wearing .

I’m not afraid I work hard for my bags. I’m just scared of hand sanitizer. Someone sprayed some on my LV speedy DE and luckily I noticed in time to rescue it. Most of my bags are LV so I’m only careful around that stuff. If anyone is jealous I don’t care I will rock my bags ☺️

Fortunately I don't give a crap about what others thing and I but items to use them. I don't care if it gets reasonable wear and tear. That just adds to the character of the item. As a fellow nyer, it all about paying attention to the surroundings and knowing where you are. Appropriate items for the appropriate place ;-D

Então por aqui por segurança a gente está restrito, é uma pena o justo era se todos nós pudéssemos ter acesso não é mesmo? Beijo

When its a 1 or few thousand dollar bag, sure you can be fun and sorta care free. But a 10k Birkin? Maybe not so? Thats why I would never spend over 5k on a bag ever again. Sold my Chanel medium classic flap, that was my most expensive bag.

i think the problem of the fear comes people who cannot afford but why is to 'elevate' their status out of vanity. Then it would make sense they would not want to ruin the bag by wearing it out on any occasion. They would want it to last a long time and only wear it out when they need to prove themselves.
